If only there was a quick way to see if there's anything else he may have accomplished in his career to make him qualified.

It probably is, but the world is insane right now. No one trusts credentialism anymore, so I doubt it will move the needle with most folks

No worse than Biden hiring a sec of defense from the DEI playbook. What's your point.

His work at FoxNews is irrelevant. It's a distraction for people who focus on pedigree and appearances rather than substance. What would be insane is to worry about the opinion of those who think that being a commentator at FoxNews matters to the job of SecDef. Good Trump.

Well....because he had two at-work affairs, one on each of his first two wives. Fathered a kid with his at-work girlfriend (became 3rd wife) while he had a wife and 3 young kids. I'm not trying to convince anyone that I'm right. Nor does this mean he cannot do a bang-up job. I just value character, especially as the leader of the military and myself being a veteran. Yes, everyone makes mistakes. But the goal is typically to not willingly make the same mistake twice, or thrice etc.

He's also found his faith and is forgiven. Do you think his wife and blended family love and forgive him for his past?

For those of you unfamiliar with military medals, the bronze star is awarded for heroism in a combat zone.

Pete has 2 of them.

Not so fast my friend. This is not a post to disqualify Pete, I love the pick, but I had a first sergeant get a bronze star for never leaving the wire but once on a convoy he fell asleep during. Lots of first sergeants and CO's were getting bronze stars simply for existing when our OIF II deployment was ending while the Joe's got ARCOMS for doing all the work.
So, what did you get your Bronze Star for?

Top, is that you???

Maybe. I don't know, nor care honestly. I'm more speaking to the character traits and track record of judgement he's laid out in his recent past. What his forgiveness level is with all 3 wives, all 7 kids and God is not my business.

It just makes for a very curious appointment. Heck, Trump considered appointing him head of the VA in the first term, twice. Didn't make the cut but 4 more years hosting on Fox and perhaps an additional book changed that.

As opposed to being a politician which is where most of them came from. Being a member of the house or senate isn't anything special.

As a 22 year veteran and current active duty member, I don't know how I feel about this. Accountability is important but really don't like the idea of Generals making risk averse decisions in fear of being fired.

Well, I am perfectly happy with Generals about being very risk averse to making overtly political decisions, like paying for gender reassignment, etc.

Don't play politics, don't get fired. Pretty simple.

War is Hell. I wouldn't put money on this nomination working out, but I think the idea is put a guy in who's first priority is winning whatever battle we may happen to have, and put everything else second. This is a radical departure from the idea that war can be somewhat nice and sanitized and our troops have to constantly look over their shoulder to see if they're being too mean.

Of course. Though it was a more obvious choice when trump's job application already showed he's done the job. Without that, or anything close to experience, the personal and character points become more important. To me. But his choice and I wish him well. Just surprised that's his best option.
