Every discussion with Democrats:

Me: I need $10 to survive.

Democrats: I can print you $2

Me: well, then I'm gonna die

Democrats: republicans would only print you $1

Me: <dies>

Democrats: we did the best we could.

Here we have a rare case of not only a false equivalency, but equivalencies that make no sense whatsoever.

Student loan forgiveness needs to be framed
focusing on the Universities, instead of the students.

Everyone needs to be asking - why in the age of digital information does the price for an education at a University keep getting more expensive? We need to direct the anger of the students at the universities where it belongs.

Edit: And why are universities charging so much for a product that has very little return value?

To pay for inflated salaries. If you have a PhD in any regular liberal arts related degree, agriculture, or any discipline that doesn't have a legitimate ROI for the people being taught, you shouldn't be making more than a radiological tech so around 60-100k. You're just not that useful, and I know about the ****ty flluff grants you look for to justify your existence.

Higher education is generally a scam, and the professors know it.

I've had debt in my life. If you pay the minimum payment on a loan, mortgage, credit card debt, whatever, you are going to be paying interest forever. Maybe you should have taken a real math/finance course in college.

And that would be correct. Reparations to Japanese-American citizens were for a US government action. Same for victims of the Tuskegee STI experiments. Same for black farmers discriminated against by USDA loan policies.

Reparations for a socioeconomic institution that predates the Republic by 4,000 years or more IS insanity. Not to mention it would expose the governments of multiple African nations, the UK, Portugal, France, Spain and the Netherlands to civil suits in US courts because they all had a hand at some point in the transatlantic slave trade.

On the one hand, I don't mind paying them back, on the other hand, I don't like that the government has created the mess with subsidized loans and ballooning costs of admission as a result. Basically making all the banks rich.

Good. That might also change my mind on assisted suicide laws.

We need to reframe it though.

Support debt forgiveness and make the universities pay for those loans.

I must be missing something...how is this possible?

I'll take example on top left...borrowed $26,000 at let's say 6%. That's about $130 in interest a month. How can you pay $90,000 and owe $89,000 at this point?

I think what's happening is the amount of interest they're not paying is being tacked on to the principal balance. Negative amortization. The minimum payment doesn't cover the interest owed.

It's worth repeating, Sallie Mae Biden was instrumental in getting student loans non-dischargable in bankruptcy.

The market would rapidly correct if these and other education loans were made dischargable and could not be held by a public institution like Sallie Mae.

If that changes was made, I think it would be worth compromising and letting some of the student loan bailout happen.

Don't want any student debt? Do what I did.

I applied for a 4 year Army Scholarship and had a job right after college.

Is student loan repayment still an incentive? I know it was 5-10 years ago. Had several friends enlist that had BA/BS degrees just for the student loan repayment.

I expect to see a activist movement to boycot payments. The democrats will drive it, get the debtors out in the streets protesting all summer.

I received a 4 year army scholarship. Don't know how the student loan repayment works.

The options are there if you work hard enough for them.

I did the same with my four year enlistment in the Marines. I went to UT (cheap at the time) and I even lived with my folks during my freshman year to keep costs down. There are many ways to avoid being burdened with a ton of school debt.
