Key notes from Isaiah Horton interview

  • My first couple of weeks here have been amazing. The culture is amazing. The people here are beyond amazing. Everything has been very settling for me.

  • I wanted to choose a school that could improve my game and take me to the next level. A&M checked all of those boxes for me. The second part was the relationship piece. In high school, I was recruited by Holmon Wiggins. At Miami, I was coached by David Cooney. I’m from Nashville, so I grew up playing with Marcel Reed. Those relationships were all there for me.

  • I always knew that A&M had that standard and culture built, but seeing what KC Concepcion and Mario Craver did this year, I was surprised at all. I’m surrounded by a bunch of dogs, and that fires me up because that’s what you need for a winning team. It was just timing, and it’s always about timing.

  • Receiver is not a finesse position. People think receivers are prima donnas who get to score touchdowns, but you have to block. There is still the mental game. The physical stuff will take care of itself, but the mental stuff is most difficult. You have to be the same guy every day.

  • Having that kind of game in the Iron Bowl means a lot because I got to show the world part of who I am, but not everything. I had an OK game. I actually dropped a touchdown. It was a great experience, and I love going out there with my teammates. We fought. It was a great experience for me, and I’m glad I got to show the world who I am. We’re not done yet.

  • I take each day one at a time. I try to be where my feet are. I enjoy the process. I enjoy meeting my teammates, and I enjoy getting to know my community. I’m taking care of what matters right now, and that’s my teammates and this family.

  • I’ve had great first impressions with the receivers because they’re all competitors. They’re all good-hearted guys without hidden agendas. It’s a brotherhood. I meshed right in with these guys like I’ve been knowing them for years. To have that natural bond means everything.

  • When I was getting recruited by Wiggins, he had the guys on his squad like Jerry Jeudy. I knew he’d eventually go up because he’s a great coach. I always wanted to play for him, and now that I have the opportunity, I’m going to make the most of it.

  • I’m familiar with Rickey Gibson III. I’m not too familiar with Dezz Ricks, but I was just at his house. We’ve already connected, and we’re going to be going at it this fall. Iron sharpens iron, and I can’t wait.

  • I’m excited because we can write our own destiny and legacy. Everything is in our control, and that's what I’m excited about. We have the coaches, the players, the community, the training room and facilities. We have it all at our disposal, which means it’s going to be up to us.

  • From a personal standpoint, you’re getting a God-fearing man. In everything I do, I ask for His approval. As a player, you’re getting a guy who is going to give his all every Saturday, whether that’s on the field, talking to my teammates or helping in any way possible. I want to be a dominant receiver, and I’m a receiver who is hungry.
