As someone who is in the middle, I thought it was painfully obvious he was going to be guilty of everything short of the big one.... and that was 50/50 in my eyes.

The right wing groupthink on this board is painful.
It disturbed me that the majority of the posters on the trial thread were very clearly rooting for Chauvin the same way we root for A&M in a football game. The attitude was that he was the good guy and Floyd was the bad guy. Not everyone was like that but that was the general theme.

We all know Floyd was no angel but it was disturbing seeing people defend Chauvin kneeling on the neck for over 9 minutes like that was somehow acceptable behavior. I sometimes thought they were doing that just as a reaction to the left making a martyr out of Floyd.

For what it's worth i predicted a manslaughter conviction and no more.

The top homicide detective said he was guilty as did the chief of police.

Due to group think on this board you compartmentalized abd minimized this data, but to an average juror, the chief of police saying the cop was wrong is devastating.

Anywhere on earth but ultra conservative bastions knew this was huge.

Because they said it should make it so without really looking at the totality of the situation? We all know the chief in particular jumped ahead of himself when this all happened and has had to stick to his ridiculous reasoning or admit he is a fool.

It's not night time yet. Remember what our Attorney General said, "~what time a crime occurs impacts the applicability of the law". According to him, crimes at night are not crimes.

Hard to believe a guilty verdict on Murder 2. Makes absolutely no sense, but I was not sitting on the jury listening to all of the testimony.

But still...

I don't plan on kneeing on someone for 9 minutes, so I should be ok
And you know the prosecution didn't claimed that was what killed him, right?
Justice was served today.
Help me out. Explain why he was convicted of 3rd degree murder.
Have you not been paying attention?
Obviously not. Explain why 3rd degree murder should be applied here.

I ask you again, why does 3rd degree murder apply here? But apparently you don't know

Saying that the jury did this out of fear for their lives is just a cop out. The defense's star witness was someone who doesn't even have a job any more and is being sued for covering up evidence. The defense went on and on about what a "reasonable officer" would do and yet was unable to produce a single "reasonable officer" to defend Chauvin. Yes the defense was able to poke holes in the state and nitpick and that got people on this board fired up thinking he was doing a good job but that isn't what wins a case. That's not what reasonable doubt is. If you actually examined the text of the murder charges, as they apply in Minnesota, this was the correct verdict.

Fantastic post.

The "my team vs your team" atmosphere in this country on both sides is repulsive.

Amazing how every single political issue magically gets divided left vs right. No one can form their own opinions anymore, it's just whatever their team tells them they should think.

I've got experience with this firsthand (a lot of it, unfortunately). It's expected for an o2 sat to climb after intubation. What happened before intubation appeared to be several minutes of no pulse or breathing. The o2 sat correcting means post-intubation the blood was flowing through good CPR and oxygen was binding to the blood. That's all it means.

No, you subdue him and maybe kneel on his neck for a short time, and then cuff him and put him in the car. Nine minutes is a very long time. This isn't a difficult concept.

Same on CNN.

If violence starts, most likely it will be some upset right winger types jumping into the crowd and getting into it with some violence-prone left winger types, and then those two groups will try to kill each other.

Know how I know you know nothing about our "justice system"?

It may be the best in the world (pretty low bar) but it is far from infallible, and jurors absolutely do pick sides before they hear any evidence, and quite often.

Combine that with prosecutors/DA's only caring about getting a guilty verdict to put another notch on their belt so they can get promotions, judges and DA's/prosecutors routinely recreating together (golf, dinner, drinks, etc.), and you can pretty quickly see that our "justice system" often does not serve justice at all.
