Doesn't seem like FtWorth is much of a threat

No chance that all 12 members of the jury will find him not guilty. Manslaughter or hung is my guess.

Did they prove manslaughter beyond reasonable doubt?
I would say no they did not. Nelson was quite effective at using the reasonable police officer standard to characterize his actions under the totality of the circumstances as not being culpably negligent insofar as he was following his training and experience.

The problem is you sometimes get the fallback position of "he has to be guilty of SOMETHING," so they convict on that.

We will have at least a couple hours heads up. Trust me, I'm getting out of downtown anywhere prior to decision.

Correct

If you work downtown in a blue city, set your phone for news updates on the trial and when it says jury done deliberating, drop what you are doing and leave immediately

I assume they don't have the option of falling back to negligence, failure to render aid, etc? I think Chauvin could have done more and seemed to not care about Floyd's fate, but I don't think he's guilty of murder.

Any estimate on when we can expect a verdict?
Depends on how good the jury meals are. Likely not long since in MN.
it depends on whether they want Chauvin to walk out of the courtroom a free hotel:

Same. Called my son today and told him the same. Also told him to carry, which he has a license for, but doesn't always do.

Some perspective on the left, in America today;

Quote:

Eric Nelson has been the sole in-court lawyer defending Chauvin for the last three weeks. When America's biggest and best law firms lined up to represent Islamic terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, for free, they were applauded with the pious reflection that everyone deserves a legal defense. That principle does not apply, however, to police officers. I cannot imagine the abuse to which Mr. Nelson has been subjected over the past weeks or the legitimate fear for his own safety that he must feel.

It happens that there is another Minneapolis lawyer named Eric Nelson. (That name is no doubt more common in Minnesota than most places.) This Eric Nelson is a family lawyer who has nothing at all to do with the Floyd case, yet he has been bombarded with angry and threatening messages from leftists. While the "real" Eric Nelson was delivering his closing argument, the second Eric Nelson received these emails:
Quote:

From: john sparo
Subject: george floyd case
Date: April 19, 2021 at 12:30:47 PM CDT
To: "enelson@-"

i just want you to know you'll always be remembered as one of the most scummy racist attorney ****s for the rest of ur **** life. either way this case goes people are going i hate you for the rest of your life becuase you're obviously a racist sticking up for another racist clown police officer who was high on power, who also had more than 3 prior physical incidents against him for too much use of physical force. you better hope chauvin goes to prison or there isn't a mistrial because if so you'll see riots you've never seen before and i'm sure there will be people looking for you and your client. good luck.

I watched your closing arguments.and your speech is full of **** .most of what you said was partially purgery some attorney you are

Get a life .he needs to be put away or this outcome will be a disaster for for city ..haha

Also this voicemail:

24 seconds
"Yeah this is Eric Nelson the one that's on TV right now during the trial. Trying to get this call off that murder the guy piece of []. You piece of []. []. Don't let me run across you."

One can only imagine the volume of threats and abuse that the "right" Eric Nelson has received and will continue to receive, especially if the jury fails to do the mob's bidding. While I have been critical of some aspects of his handling of Chauvin's defense, I take my hat off to him for his courage.

Fully understand that. I was just saying that in my review of the evidence, I'm not seeing culpable negligence and thought Nelson did a sufficient job on that.

Nelson did a great job, but I probably think manslaughter too because there will be some on the jury that don't care what the facts of the case were. They went into the courtroom with a heavy bias and will not be swayed. The jurors decide to meet in the middle and give a guilty on the least of the charges.

I just want to add this. Cahill is in the process of debriefing the two alternates. He might be getting an earful, much more than he expects.

Jury Prediction:

Guilty on all counts

How I would vote as a juror:

Guilty of manslaughter
Not guilty of Murder 2, Murder 3

I would say so. The consensus is societal pressure is likely to provide a guilty verdict on all counts. The longer they deliberate, the likely there's one person holding on to innocence.

Or at least reasonable doubt. "deliberate murder" is a stretch here, and I think that should be plain for anybody to see.

After giving it serious thought and thorough research, I discovered that that's actually the standard.

Who would have ever thought that ?

I could could swear the educational system and the media had always taught the standard for white police was guilty until proven innocent. You learn something everyday.

curious to see if we ever get to hear about this. The best part of jury trials was when you got to talk to jurors after the verdict. Really helpful.

I think if he gets manslaughter (and probably will is my bet) - it says a lot about the jury. It means at least one juror probably thought he was innocent but wasn't strong enough to keep their conviction (out of fear or reprisal, doxxing, etc).

Absolutely, but Minnesota doesn't require "deliberate" murder, just a "substantial contribution" to a death, which has a cap of sentencing of 40 years.
