There are some who might not care but it's undoubtedly a terrible look for a leader to be seen as leaving their constituents in what could be considered their hour of greatest need.
Even if it's true that there is little he could do by remaining, the optics don't look good.
You realize several of the people that oversee the Texas electrical grid aren't living in Texas. They aren't there in their constituents' hour of need. They are in their state with power living comfortably with six figure salaries.
One on the board is German and lives outside the country.
Among the latter, under pretence of governing they have divided their nations into two classes, wolves and sheep.”

That seems completely unrelated to me. Not being around other people to stop virus spread vs going on a vacation when you are not in TX to begin with anyway and there probably isn't much you can do anyway?

Looks like maybe he decided that vacationing in Mexico right now was not very smart.

Too bad, someone should have linked him to this thread so he could realize how much his voters love the idea of him leaving the country while Texas is in crisis!

Wow. It's almost like he had a massive err in judgment and other republicans told him the optics are terrible.

But that can't be because so many here are saying it's a non issue. Weird.

So they were for it until they were against it, or against it before they were for it? Things change so quickly depending on what Ted has been reported to be doing, then not doing or trying to undo.

And may the maga God have mercy on him if he in fact did change his plans, all while his base was giving him full throated support, all because of a tweet.

How is this remotely the same? Cruz isn't advocating for people to stay home and not be able to work or support themselves.

Holy crap, are y'all serious right now? Ted Cruz flying to Cancun is him somehow fulfilling his constitutional duty? Did he tell you how it tastes too?

He's no Texan. I can't fix a power plant but I'm here finding food for my neighbors or helping them unthaw pipes or calling to friends to see if they are ok and to help them find shelters. To say there's nothing he can do is to say he's not even a person. An Ag doesn't leave their neighbors in the cold and a real Texan isn't in Mexico when Texas needs us. This man doesn't deserve y'all's excuses.

So I am guessing there is never a time for vacation. Because someone is always in need somewhere.

The hypocrisy of this board. If a democrat did this it'd e talked about for years.
Only by morons. If, after the next disaster, Biden were to refrain from "flying over the effected area" and state that it's because "it's just a photo op that does nobody any good" then I will praise his ass.

I've always hated that and have said so.

I had no idea yall had rock bottom standards for elected officials. You expect no better leadership from a senator as you do a gas station clerk.

But then again, the GOP elected Donald Trump, so idk why I am over here thinking the GOP had any sort of standards they expect out of their leaders.
Can you pinpoint where Sheila Jackson Lee and Joaquin Castro are right now?
I know this is meant to be a "gotcha" question, but I went ahead and googled it:

While I obviously cant state with certainty where they are and what they are doing at this very moment, it's pretty clear they are at least working on important issues right now and not going on a ****ing vacation.

The republican/cruz playbook :

Never let the worst natural disaster in 30 years affecting millions of your constituents stop you from going to cancun!

or

When you constituents are suffering, get out of town and go on vacation!
This is nowhere near the worst natural disaster.... Harvey says hello. Quit being such a drama queen.
I went through Harvey in Houston - think similar number of neighbors will have severely damaged homes due to burst pipes. Dozens of friends with uninhabitable houses - unlike Harvey can't pack up and drive inland to safety. Just have to call friends and see if they can double or triple up.

Harvey was worse Since this is state wide rather than just the coast I wonder how what the final bill is going to be.

You Beto bots need to get some better material.

Ted Cruz has done an outstanding job representing the state of Texas.

And unlike the blindly partisan leaders you support, Ted had displayed the ability to work with his opponents...like Trump...or polar opposites in Congress like AOC.

But "Orange man" will forever be stuck in your heads.
You realize that it's been posted on this thread that Ted's only job is to vote against anything liberal? Oh, and make sure lib judges don't get it. That's his only job.

So you are more worried about Cruz and his family taking a vacation to Cancun while your boy Biden is:
Allowing boys to compete in girls sports
Ignoring the threat of China
Starting to crash the economy
Going to remove your second amendment rights
Stating that minorities can't work a computer
Continuing to lock us down while opening up the border.
Yep, a Cruz vacation is going to kill our state and country.

Couple this trip and his remarks about California's power outages , he definitely comes across as a typical elitist , hypocritical politician.
California's power issues are an annual thing because they refuse to take care of the underbrush, so the do rolling blackouts to prevent wild fires. What happened in Texas is a once every quarter century occurrence. That's the biggest difference, and honestly, if there were $10mm earmarked for weather improvements, I'd prefer it be used to keep power on during hurricanes/floods vs. single digit temps, because one happens frequently.
I understand perfectly that California's problems are self-inflicted because of ridiculous state policies there.

I'm talking about perception issues for Cruz. If anyone here thinks this trip and his tweet about California won't be used ,and effectively used, against him and Republicans then I can only say you live in an alternate universe from reality. you know the same one that predicted a Trump landslide and and a 10 point victory over Beta

Republicans need to flip the dialogue and show how increasing reliance on wind power was the cause of our shortages and start talking about nuclear power as the solution.Cruz should be in Houston right now making that argument not in Cancun.

There's always a tweet for Ted. Always.

Maybe he's not as smart as everyone seems to think?

Ted is smarter than nearly all of his voters. He wouldn't have gotten an education most can't even fathom of getting if he wasn't smart. The thing is the Twitter is forever, especially when each side has people dedicated to saving every tweet the other side does. So over time, what goes around comes around, and this is just another example of that. The interesting thing is that this is twice for Ted in a few days.

They can't. Everything is regurgitation of whatever talking point blast they've received, or what they find on Twitter.

And it is very clear that they coordinate when to all show up and troll because this thread gets posted at midnight, and they all showed up in rapid succession and have been at it for 10+ hours now.
