Holy crap, are y'all serious right now? Ted Cruz flying to Cancun is him somehow fulfilling his constitutional duty? Did he tell you how it tastes too?

He's no Texan. I can't fix a power plant but I'm here finding food for my neighbors or helping them unthaw pipes or calling to friends to see if they are ok and to help them find shelters. To say there's nothing he can do is to say he's not even a person. An Ag doesn't leave their neighbors in the cold and a real Texan isn't in Mexico when Texas needs us. This man doesn't deserve y'all's excuses.

Dumb, bad form move on Cruz's part.
No chance this was scheduled in advance. Probably by a month. And Cruz works hard. No problem with this at all.

There are some who might not care but it's undoubtedly a terrible look for a leader to be seen as leaving their constituents in what could be considered their hour of greatest need.
Even if it's true that there is little he could do by remaining, the optics don't look good.

There isn't "little" he could do, there was precisely nothing he could do. He is a federal senator, and as such he has zero involvement in getting local and state bureaucracies to do their job.

To say he has no influence is wrong.

To say he has no responsibility is wrong.

Having our sitting Senator abandon the state in one of our greatest crises is wrong.

Texas needs help. At the very least, he could help out at one of the many 'warming shelters' setup around the state.

Oh for the love of God please stop with this bed wetting nonsense.

The only thing wrong is the notion that a United States senator has any role to play in this right now.

It's not the government's job to hold your hand when something bad happens. Why must the left infantalize the citizens of this country?

I mean other than to shamelessly set up a straw man they can knock down to pander for votes in the most pathetic way possible. It's gross.

People don't need a ****ing hug from the government. They need the ****ing power and water on, and Cruz can do absolutely zero to make that happen.

The love of God has nothing to do with you and Republicans deflecting blame. It's flat out wrong to think our senator has no part to play and it's okay for him to run off on vacation in the middle of all this. Making a 'self responsibility' argument when we had one of the greatest infrastructure failures in all of Texas history: that is the definition of shameless.

What exactly can Ted Cruz do?

Specifics please. No platitudes or proselytizations.

He could assist with ongoing federal disaster relief efforts. Or participate in local efforts. Plenty of helpers are needed atm.

That's stupid. That agency doesn't need help. Like every Federal agency, its overstaffed by 1000%, same with the state agency. This is nothing but a lame attempt by mouth breathing libs to make something out of nothing. How much does Soros pay you to post nonsense here? You're the due that claimed we get 2% of our power from wind. You are woefully ignorant on this matter, most matters in fact. You run off to redditt and get your talking points, then bring that idiocy back here.

Note: Funny how libs show up in mass at 5:50 am. Look at all the blue stars on lefty posts on page 4. As a system analyst I'd say there is a chance we have a either a bot problem given the bad math or some level of coordinated propaganda.

Cruz could absolutely be doing more than completely nothing. This is from Senator Cornyn and is pretty low effort, but better than sitting this one out like y'all seem to be advocating for:

Did Cruz issue a travel ban, then fly to Cancun? This is why people criticize liberal politicians. Do as i say not as i do. A state of emergency was ordered which is pretty much the extent of what federal govt can do for extreme weather. Imagine OP is just a butthurt Beto voter.

Pretty sure he'll be on the phone the majority of his vacation. You never work remote before?

Of course Beto is running his mouth, he's running for state governor. He is literally the AOC of Texas. But if you support gun confiscation, open borders, rampant homelessness, and defunded police, be my guest.

Biden was on CNN being a complete racist, and silence from the Party. Cruz takes a little time off with his family and libs turn on the fake outrage machine for their two minute hate for the day.

Honestly, this is worse than sleeping with a Chinese spy. Or Pelosi using military aircraft to take extravagant vacations. Wait, remember that? She was taking a ridiculously transparent taxpayer trip and Trump stopped her. The media wasn't outraged she was leaving, they were slanted against the right. Weird how that always happens.

Cruz isnt an Ag. Maybe this is how Ivy Leaguers respond? And using the No True Scotsman fallacy indicates you believe or expect all people of a certain type or category to act/conform to your standards and ethics. Whether you like it or not, a vast majority of people are more than the labels you have assigned them.

Agree. Robert Francis is calling him out announcing his run for Guv, and Cruz is going on vacation? Not just that, but the national media is pulling up old tweets from Cruz about California's blackouts.

Terrible look to be going to Cancun while people are freezing stuck at home without power.

Huge Ted Cruz fan.

On a scale of 1 to 10 using the Austin Mayor as a baseline this is a 1. There really is nothing Ted can do except make phone calls.....in which he is doing before driving to the airport, while at the airport, before and after photo was taken and during most of his vacation.

Now if TC made a phone call from a warm resort saying how cold he was.....that would be different.

Please lose the faux outrage, there are real things to be upset about.....this is not one of them.
