Yes, we know. Don't trust the WHO, but trust some off shot conspiracy theorists website that is convinced we didn't land on the moon either.

Some of y'all are absolutely insufferable and will believe nothing that can be taken as progress or good news.

I think this chart is gonna be bad news for a long time.

Would be interesting to see these charts plotted against the number of reported deaths.

We are at 340 deaths currently. I'll probably add that in later.
Never mind, that's everyone but China.

Another report of "recovered" patients...dying.

Quote:

Coronavirus: 'recovered' patient dies as China reports discharged cases falling ill again

  • A 36-year-old man has died in Wuhan from respiratory failure days after being discharged from hospital

  • Latest data from the mainland shows most new infections continue to occur at epidemic's epicentre

A 36-year-old man has died of respiratory failure in Wuhan, five days after being discharged from one of the makeshift hospitals built to contain the outbreak, according to a report by Shanghai-based news portal The Paper.

The report, which was later removed, said Li Liang had been admitted to the hospital built to treat patients with mild and moderate symptoms on February 12, according to his wife, surnamed Mei. He was discharged two weeks later with instructions to stay in a quarantine hotel for 14 days.

Mei said her husband was not feeling well two days after leaving the hospital, with dry mouth and gaseous stomach. On March 2, Li said he felt sick and was sent to a hospital, where he was certified dead that afternoon.

The death certificate issued by the Wuhan health commission said the direct cause was Covid-19, and listed respiratory blockage and failure as the symptoms which could have led to his death.

The Paper also reported that Fangcang Hospital one of Wuhan's makeshift facilities issued an emergency notice on Wednesday that said more discharged patients had been readmitted after falling ill again. The hospital will begin conducting antibody tests on all patients before discharge from Thursday, to ensure they are fully recovered.

I call BS. I didn't see anywhere in that article that states he ever tested positive and his claim is he got it on November 25th. Even the doctor that claimed to be the whistle blower didn't say anything until mid-December. Seems like a publicity stunt for attention
It almost read like satire to me. At least seemed sensationalized. I would imagine he wrote his "diary" after the fact with earlier events colored by the experience of later events.

Just seemed weird. I don't know if I would say it's fake but the way it was written and presented certainly doesn't make me want adopt it as 100% cold hard facts.

Keep in mind this does not mean 252 people contracted the virus within the last 24 hours. Simply means new cases were discovered. The individuals could have contracted the virus days or weeks ago.

I wonder if some sub-strain of this thing is biphasic. Some diseases have two separate phases that can be some time apart and appearing to be 'recovered.' Since we really don't know enough about this thing it wouldn't surprise me. It also wouldn't surprise me if this is the more deadly version that kills elderly/vulnerable folks first and then the 2nd phase is more harmful to a younger age group that is weakened from the 1st phase.

Total speculation however.

Coronavirus update: 5th COVID-19 case confirmed in Illinois; Cook County man being treated at RUSH University Medical Center

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Illinois health officials have announced Thursday that a fifth resident has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

The fifth COVID-19 patient in the state is a Cook County man in his 20s who flew into Chicago through O'Hare Airport earlier this month after traveling from Italy.

The patient acquired COVID-19 while in Italy and is hospitalized in isolation at Rush University Medical Center and is in stable condition, health officials said.

"The state of Illinois is working around the clock to contain COVID-19 and educate the public," said Governor JB Pritzker. "Public health officials anticipated there would be additional cases and we will continue to implement robust measures to contain the virus while also preparing for further transmission. The risk of COVID-19 to the general public in Illinois remains low, but we encourage the public to be vigilant and take extra care with the normal precautions you should take during flu season."

Health officials said they are working to identify all close contacts with the patient.

Do they mean earlier in March or Feb?

It should as more and more people are tested.

This doesn't seem to end in 5 days, so people who were sick two weeks ago but not tested may show to be positive

I don't think it is exploding here yet, just more are being tested everyday that have been sick for some time

Quote:

The Coronavirus Disease Progression: Stage 1
Roughly 2-4 days after you are exposed, the coronavirus manifests in the form of an acute viral infection.
Here are some of the coronavirus symptoms typically experienced:
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Loss of appetite
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Muscle aches
As you can see, it would be near impossible to distinguish these symptoms from a typical respiratory infection (flu, the "common cold") or a gastrointestinal infection.
So when you see those videos of citizens in China coughing and sneezing go viral, this is Stage 1 in effect.
Here's where things seemingly start to get grim:
Without treatment, these symptoms disappear within a week or so.
The infected person would shrug them off as a mere cold without giving a second thought to getting tested.
Of course, most western medical systems would be completely overwhelmed overnight if everyone went to get tested!

The Coronavirus Disease Progression: Stage 2
Over the next 14-24 days (depending on age and gender), the infected person is in a stage of clinical latency.
No symptoms are experienced, yet the viral infection progresses at a very low speed.
The coronavirus accumulates in your lung tissue and starts to replicate itself.
With more particles of the coronavirus created, they are shed into the air.
This is why you'll see medical articles and news reports about the coronavirus being "invisible".
Furthermore, the virus' lack of activity means you will pass all control tests typically done in a hospital.
The ONLY way to have a chance of diagnosing the coronavirus at this stage is either through a chest CT/X-ray or a PCR test.
For this reason alone, international authorities are issuing travel bans under the guide that it's not a great idea to let symptom-free carriers travel and enter other countries (although this will not outright stop it from spreading).

The Coronavirus Disease Progression: Stage 3
This is where things start to get really nasty with the coronavirus.
COVID-19 will severely damage the lungs and lead to a cytokine storm (overproduction of the immune cell's activating compounds) usually seen in people who are chronically inflamed.
Major lung infections start taking place, and this eventually leads to systemic sepsis due to the inflammation spilling into your body's circulation:
Quote:

"Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening condition caused by the body's response to an infection.
Quote:

The body normally releases chemicals into the bloodstream to fight an infection.
Quote:

Sepsis occurs when the body's response to these chemicals is out of balance, triggering changes that can damage multiple organ systems.
Quote:

If sepsis progresses to septic shock, blood pressure drops dramatically. This may lead to death."
So when you see video's of people on Twitter randomly "dropping" out of nowhere, it's because of their blood pressure falling to dangerous levels.
With this being said, there are two "kinds" of Stage 3 you need to be concerned about.

Coronavirus, Stage 3: Mild
Mild Stage 3 encompasses roughly 85% of patients at this stage.
The coronavirus stays in the lung tissue at a low level, but it is still highly contagious at this point.
Even amongst patients who recover, they are left with residual organ damage in the lungs, GI tract, cardiovascular system and the male testes.
Symptoms in mild stage 3 include:
  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Sore throat
  • Night sweats
  • Loss of appetite
  • Swollen lymph nodes

Coronavirus, Stage 3: Severe
Severe Stage 3 makes up the other 15%, where patients are most likely to die or remain handicapped for life (i.e. measures such as oxygen support are needed).
Symptoms in severe stage 3 include:
  • Pneumonia (Viral and Bacterial)
  • Pulmonary Embolism
  • Lung Fibrosis
  • Lung Thrombosis
  • Heart Attack (from blood clot)
  • Stroke (from blood clot)
  • Multisystem-Organ Failure

With the free movement within the EU, it's safe to assume that bug is all over the place there.

The U.S. should really be canceling all travel to/from the EU at this point, but the CDC and State Dept. health team (same idiots who flew the cruise ship people back on the same plane as those without symptoms/exposure) are twiddling their thumbs yet again.
