I would like to thank the Lord for many things in my life, and that Torbush gif is one of them. Probably the only time I cheered against A&M.

Proud to say that the OP is a friend of mine IRL and I have been able to witness his journey. I'm waiting for him to swim the tiber but that time is not in yet.

There are many things that Jesus can use to bring a person back to him, and politics was his entry point. I've said it on here before but leftism at it's core is demonic. Not all leftists are demonic, but it's because they don't actually know what they're supporting, there are useful idiots on both the right and the left; but only one side that is pointed to Chaos and sin.

People don't respect a person because of what their body looks like. Respect comes from what kind of person you are.

He didn't say masculinity is bad. The left doesn't say masculinity is bad. He said "toxic masculinity". There's a difference. You know that, right? Toxic masculinity looks at womanizing racists like John Wayne as an ideal of "manhood". Masculinity looks at men like Fred Rogers as an ideal of "manhood".

The most masculine person to ever exist was Jesus Christ, and his sacrifice set the tone for how all men are to behave. Bodybuilding is a sacrifice, it takes hard work, and dedication. Being a slob is easy, being a glutton is easy, being in shape and pushing the limits of your body takes work.

That's why we box, that's why we lift, that's why we read, that's why we pray. Mens sana en corpore sano. Better yourself spiritually, mentally, and phyiscally.

I'm starting to suspect that OP's Christianity is the most normal part of his belief system. I'm curious why you were an atheist in the first place but doubt it was for the same reasons I am.

And I continue to doubt that the explicit ties between Christianity and right wing politics has actually benefited Christianity. For every person like the OP who is drawn to Christianity that might not have been otherwise, how many others are pushed away?

Right now we are doing a Dune read-through. I'm a Dune fiend, so I've already read the entire series but I am re-reading it so I can comment along with the guys.

We have read "Mine were of trouble", "Thus Spoke Zarathustra", "The brothers Karamzov", "Fight Club", "Sun and Steel", "Storm of Steel" and "the burning souls"

Count me in as one of the many that was pushed away. I started questioning my faith in college but if anything it was the far right wing politics, and especially Trumpism, that was the final nail in the coffin for me.

I'm happy for OP if he finds joy in coming back to his faith. But being part of that just was not for me and I do not see myself going back to it.

I'm a huge Dune fan, probably my most reread book. Can't wait for the movie. I think reading Dune may have planted the seeds that lead to me not being a Christian, but that's another story.
I read The brothers Karamazov last year, it was a bit of a slog at times, but great story and philosophy throughout.
I'll look into the others.

Given a choice between two otherwise equal individuals and people will listen to the man who more masculine every time.

Fred Rogers had an exceptional strength of will, but he's the far exception to the rule and he's from a different era anyway so you're comparing apples to oranges. Being fat or really out of shape was generally socially unacceptable for most of his life. By comparison these are the norm nowadays.

If I have one literary regret, it's that I am not able to go back in time and experience the Brothers Karamazov for the first time.

Speaking of Dune, have you read the other 5 books by Hebert? They're amazing. The stuff his kid wrote is garbage, but the other books are even better than Dune, IMO

Read the sequels many times. I too have avoided the stuff by his son. I read the Wikipedia plot summaries to see if it was worth my time, and decided it was not.

Edit to add: If you liked Brothers Karamazov, check out East of Eden. A lot of similarities, but East of Eden is a little more acceptable to modern audiences.

Have you ever seen a tiny carpenter who was out of shape? I know I haven't. It's very labor intensive work, especially in that era where all of their tools required physical strength and endurance.

We know Paul used sports analogies all of the time and was a dedicated fitness enthusiast himself. We also know that he was not the only one like that.

Physical fitness in the Bible is repeatedly emphasized by numerous people. The idea that God wants us to be sloths and gluttons is a farce. The men of the Bible knew that a sound body makes for a sound mind. Why would anyone ignore this especially when there is an enormous amount of data linking physical fitness to a significant reduction in all cause mortality rates and linking muscle mass directly to longer lifespans? God wants us to enjoy life yes but if you never struggle for anything then you will end up like Solomon where you're living a completely empty life. Working out and weight lifting provides people, who otherwise have comfortable lives, something to sacrifice and struggle to reach. No matter who you are rich or poor, there are no shortcuts to physical fitness. You either put in the work or you don't. Putting in the work will absolutely give you a new perspective on the world and will show you the value of hard work even if everything else in life comes east.

I could go on and on about the subject but it's something I am absolutely passionate about.

Does it depend on who you want to listen to you? It is likely that those who value the superficial may be more likely to listen to someone that is jacked. But are those that are less superficial likely to listen to you any more? For me personally, If I need to hire an engineer, lawyer, financial consultant, doctor, scientist, or any other expert, I kinda don't care how jacked they are. Being jacked doesn't make someone more worth listening to. If I need to hire someone to move my washing machine, then yeah, I want the jacked guy.

To find out who rules over take a look at what you can't criticize without getting ruined. I won't mention who they are because that topic is verboten on this site.

They want power yes, but they will always be puppets to the real power behind the scenes, which is global finance. Global finance, such as Blackrock and Vanguard control both the government and damn near every medium to large corporation.

I feel like your first and this part of your second paragraphs may be at odds. Are the giant multinational financial institutions the ones you cannot criticize without getting ruined? I rather agree with your second statement more than your first. Power is being able to manipulate politicians, laws, judges, and officials to do as you please. Getting someone fired because they used a gay slur is power, but it pales in comparison.

Masculinity is defined as toxic in our times, however as society becomes more and more effeminate we are seeing a complete collapse of morals, the family, and eventually western society.
