Last night had some hits and misses for me. Rebecca is pretty ridiculous this season and Phoebe decorating the jerseys was dumb....

Apparently the girl who played Dani's sister is his real life sister.

Why do you think female sports, in general, attract more gay women than straight? (Referring to only XX chromosomes)

I wondered this after watching episode 2, where the two woman footballers were flirty (for a lack of a better word) towards each other on the pitch. Lasso mentioned it to the assistant coach, just as an observational comment, and she said something along the lines of "they are dating; probably never see that on the men's team". Which is very true, no man on any team would be flirty with another male player. Not saying the woman are less professional on the pitch, and guys do screw around on the field, but nothing that would be considered flirty. There was never once in the first 3 seasons of Ted Lasso where any male players would do anything like that with other male players.

What do you think the percentage of gay women (XX) play professional sports? It has to be extremely higher than male sports. Sure there are gay guys in professional sports, but the male percentage has to be in the single digits compared to double digits in female sports.

Overall an entertaining episode, enjoyed the star player fakeout and the tryouts were fun (especially "This might take a while." "No it won't."). And always good to get more Phoebe.

I'm just hoping we get past "women's football is hard" as the theme for the season, though to be fair this has always been a very well written show so I'm expecting things to go deeper.

Minor spoiler:
I was trying to figure out where I knew new player Lizzie from, she was Vel Sartha in Andor and also played The Waif that helps trains Arya as a Faceless Man in GoT.

Seems like her agent is very good at getting her into prestigious TV series.

Good pull.... I couldn't place her either.

They're more open about it for one.
Women are much more accepting of homosexuality than men in general.

Studies have also shown more women who identify as LGBT participate in sports more frequently. Doesn't explain why tho.

Sports are typically have been male oriented until the last 50 years or so. The stereotype of a jock challenges the stereotypical type of femininity.

None of it really explains anything but combined it makes more sense.

When Alice and Ted talked about the couple on the women's team Ted said you never see that on the men's team. Alice's reply was "that you know of" which is correct. There are always many rumors of closeted gay men in sports and entertainment even today. Society at large is much more accepting of lesbians than gay men. I don't know why.

But it was definitely a plot line on the men's team with Colin coming out. Before he came out he would routinely joke about flirting with or doing sexual favors to Zava. Danny also made some comments and followed Zava around like a puppy dog beyond the social norm of men.

Yeah, they need to rein Rebecca in.

I thought the Phoebe/Jersey thing was cute. Almost to where I could see a real life women's team doing something like that for a game or two. A fun little contest for the local kids, auction them off afterwards.

My wife called Dani's sister being terrible right away. While I can appreciate most of the jokes and references they slip in, teasing his sister playing and having her suck was something that could have been left out.

Main gripe: Given the type of story and narrative that it was, there is no way Ted Lasso doesn't know who Susan Boyle is.

I also had to stop and explain to my wife once I regained composure. Could not have had better music to go with that scene and have it relate to boys of a certain age group.

Thanks for that. I knew the music but could not place what movie it was from. Now it is even funnier.

I'm hoping to watch through the end, but this show is fading fast for me.

I'm not alone, either. This entire thread is only about 3 pages when you disregard the political derailment. Season 3 was cranking out 3 to 5 pages per episode.

With that said, the show still has the same old charm in my opinion. I'm rooting for Ted and the gang. Alice is a great addition and I really liked the actress in "The Decameron." I also like the new player who's a mom. Whoever recognized her from Game of Thrones...great catch. I didn't recognize her at all. I think her motherhood could add a lot to the plot.

But on the other side of the coin, I think the Rebecca plotlines have gotten too ridiculous. Having no uniforms for the girls was too absurd for my taste, and I don't understand why Roy is on the show at all beyond a short quick guest spot every couple of episodes. And for a show that is "allegedly" trying to promote women's soccer, it's doing a great job of making me hate it more than I already did.

If they don't start focusing on helping us get to know all the players instead of the absurd situations with Rebecca & Keeley, I'm going to start forgetting to watch this show.

I thought episode three was pretty bad ass. So far I'm not hating the overarching premise or characters one bit now that the show is back in Richmond. I think there is a lot of promise, and Chilton is by far the best new character.

The worst part of the show for me is Roy pining for Keely.

The irony of the show is for sure the onscreen plight of women's soccer vs what is going on today with the trans being allowed to invade women's sports by (most) WOMEN. It feels like that whole part of the plot is outdated. There are plenty of false narratives out there today proclaiming all women's sports are the great thing since sliced bread when that is categorically false. But a fictional show about a fictional women's soccer team is leaps and bounds more interesting.

Hopefully the writers will take a page from what made A League of Their Own a success, being character driven threads and plotlines that delivered in a huge way. Why not just go with women's soccer in Richmond being very well-received with the resurgence of the men's program? Hell, I don't care if the whole team is lesbian.

If there are more seasons, and I think it is obvious there will be, I'm dreading the point were Ted gets a trans on the team. I'll be out at that point.

That's nuts that Lizzie is the Waif. But her GoT appearances were a decade ago.

In season 3 we were deep in the journeys of a dozen plus characters, we barely know most of the cast in this season yet.

I enjoy this world a lot, and as the team itself is also a new entity in this world I'm totally ok with things taking a bit to really get going.

Half of me is "no way they'll do this". The other half is, they are theater kids. They won't be able to help themselves.

Serious question: why does pointing out social injustices in our country make something "woke"? And why is acknowledging or learning about that history a bad thing? The show is drawing a comparison between the racial segregation of baseball and women being excluded from the beautiful game.

You can think the comparison is heavy-handed or that the storyline isn't well written, but I don't understand why simply discussing an uncomfortable part of American history is something to be concerned about.

In late 90's, CNN published a survey about racism and black Americans and while many responded that they'd experienced some racism in their lives, the vast majority didn't let it impact their daily lives. Now suddenly it's everywhere and blacks can't get ahead because of it. The amount of 'racism' stories in the news media went up 1000% after Obama was elected. That's not a coincidence.

And what does racism have to do with Ted Lasso? I swear it's you, the "unwoke", that bring it up just as much as everyone else does. How is what you are doing any different than the media who brings it up everyday?

Edit to add: We rewatched the last episode and then watched the 1st episode last night. It seems a bit odd to me that after 2 years of coaching Richmond, Ted would end up working as a Assistant Manager at a grocery store. However, I know that all will be told as the season unravels. I actually thought it was a very good episode and discussion point on balancing a men's and a woman's league. And I think the answers are right there when the clothing shop owner said something about women helping women succeed.

There have been a few 80's movies references, I forgot the one in the first episode, but the guy dressed like Marty McFly in the second episode and then the stripes music in the 3rd.

Tonight's episode felt like peak Ted Lasso.

Higgins being caught in the group chat with Roy and Keeley was hilarious.

Using the podcast as a way to bring back Trent Crimm and Dr. Sharon was smart, and it was great framing device for the episode.

Overall felt like it captured that old Ted Lasso feeling of fun and uplifting

Trent Crimm as podcast host was too good. And the hair care for men sponsor was perfection.

That ep was a ton of fun, watching the team bond against the Brians in trivia was hilarious and Tracey Ullman's character was really entertaining. Gave us some nice little insights into the characters as wel, and Roy's "dates" were a fun addition.

On the FA Cup!

4 episodes in and they're still really heavy handed with the feel sorry for women's sports theme.

Structurally, good Ted Lasso episodes but this political mantra is growing tiresome.
