ib4 everyone complaining that they just remade the show with women.

I'm sure money is part of the equation, but i trust the writers to make something enjoyable and entertaining to watch.

I have high hopes and low expectations.

Ted lasso holds a special place in my heart. It doesn't always hit but when it does it really hits for me.

More than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt on this and hope it works.

Wife and I are currently in a rewatch and loving all the episodes we forgot about. They built some great characters (Roy Kent , Jamie tart, kee leh) so I think that will be the hardest part to recreate

Anyone watch yet? I thought it was a very solid first episode. Only complaint is episode 2 wasn't also tonight. Seemed like a 1a type episode which would have been nice to have 1b. Probably not exactly spoilers because we know he goes back to Richmond but I wish they had a second episode tonight with his return.

Rebecca with the BBQ and BBQ sauce was great. And loved at the end where it was clear Ted was keeping up with everyone back in Richmond.

What was the point of the black baseball players tangent with Higgins and Coach Lasso talking about his white privilege? If they're already getting preachy with the wokeness this early in the season, I can't imagine what it will be like when the women's soccer players start getting introduced.

I feel like in another time and on different channel that scene could have been hilarious. It had the set up with a culture and sport he is not familiar with. But it just felt preachy. I am a huge fan of Ted season one but got very meh on the long format season 3.

Thoroughly enjoyed ep 1, was a nice reintroduction to the characters.

Keeley being completely enamoured with Kansas was really entertaining, and the cold open was very "Ted" and set up his current situation well. The parallels between Ted and his dad and him and his son really drove home the choice he was making, in his head he was doing it for his family but wasn't really considering the bigger impact. I am curious about them all moving back when he and his wife are no longer together, however. Also felt like we could've gotten more out of the interaction with him and his son's coach.

Excited to see them get back to Richmond next ep.

Already getting preachy? The entirety of Ted Lasso is preachy… it's the cornerstone of the show. And when done correctly, as Ted Lasso more often than not is, it makes for a great show.

Complaining about Ted Lasso being preachy is like whining about Breaking Bad being about meth. Jesus.

For some reason, this show always makes me laugh. I just like it. Episode 1 was a good way to catch everyone up with the new story line.

It was more like an episode zero. Lay out the setting, remind everyone how the pieces move and work together. Get the good vibes back and then back into the next campaign .

This is just flat out wrong. Season 1 started out pretty much apolitical. Once the writers figured out they had a hit, they started putting in more woke storylines into the show in Season 2. By Season 3 this show was tough to watch. They've picked up right where they left off with Season 4 it seems. This season is going to be a train wreck if episode 1 and the past ramping up of wokeness is any indication.

If you read my original post I said "getting preachy with the wokeness." You can preach about many things. You can't read, and you were putting words in my mouth.

If a show is preaching about good wholesome things that's fine with me. I don't appreciate being preached to about woke/progressive ideology.

Totally enjoyed the season premiere. Loved seeing everybody again. Well not everybody. But close enough.

I used to travel to Kansas City MO for work (where my company was headquartered) and loved seeing some familiar places again.

I refuse to try to see politics or wokeness in my entertainment choices. This is just a feel good show that makes me feel good.

The episode was mostly ok and funny at times. It was sad at times too. I think it's fine to call out the silliness of the forced plot elements.

The black baseball stuff was just odd. Show Higgins America through the lense of stuff that actually mattered like western heritage, have him day trip to dodge city or something. Pony express museum is not far away either. The pony express had a way more of an impact on America than Satchel Paige lol.

The English do love a good guilt and privilege sob story - that's why their island is getting overrun with third worlders and they historically have lost or been invaded for centuries. But I digress.

I'm knew I was getting old when I start asking "Why can't Henry charge his own iPad? And if he doesn't, who cares?"

Nice first episode. I rolled my eyes at the forced political/social commentary but didn't really care either.

Coming at it from a different angle: in addition to my episode zero reference above, this was a Jason Sudeikis "vanity"/fan service episode. My wife is from that area, and every two minutes she was pointing like Leo DiCaprio at another KCMO landmark or mannerism or whatever. Ted's mom is like Midwestern moms. Keeley and Rebecca walked by a fountain in a city of fountains; while Dazzle Me Moi and Tammy aren't themselves "real," the names are the only fake thing about those shops and those people. That was really Gates BBQ, and they really do operate like that: my wife yelled "Hi, may I help you!" two seconds before they did on the show.

Daniel Manning Elementary School isn't real. But my wife the KU graduate knew that Sudeikis the Jayhawks fan was tipping his cap to one of the Rock Chalk legends.

All this to say that, while the Negro League Museum thread may have been a touch heavy handed in its presentation, I think it was mostly yet another KC reference.

Sudeikis, Bill Lawrence, and the rest of the Lasso crew have earned a little bit of leeway when it comes to the messages they send, and for making an episode that didn't actually "do" much of anything for the overall story. But I certainly hope they get back to what made the show great to begin with, and soon.

The Negro League museum was also used to introduce the ban on women's soccer in England until 1971. I didn't know about that. It's not exactly a total ban, but women were banned from using professional facilities/refs during that time.

I'm glad they are introducing the financial difficulties of women's sports. I thought they were going to pretend that they were just as popular as the men's team. Hopefully it's not presented as some sexist issue but a real challenge they have to try and solve.

My biggest concern with this season is who's missing and are they just replaced by stand ins of the character we don't care about. Jamie, Dani, Trent, and others.

I took the overall purpose(s) behind that scene were:
1. To show Higgins "some" USA culture (i.e. baseball)
2. I think that Higgins is worried about the financial resources of a women's Richmond team pulling away from the available resources of the men's team. Therefore, Higgins is generally opposed.
3. The scene shows the long term result and value of supporting a sport that initially people did not support (Negro baseball) that when given resources, the long term result is beneficial to the sport. So to me it convinced Higgins to be on-board with the women's team.

Also, the "bar-b-que" sauce joke with Rebecca was layered because Ted says "bar-b-que sauce" when he beat Rupert at darts (for Rebecca) in S1.

I think that makes total sense, and is a lesson for Higgins moving forward, rather than just trivializing the scene as "woke".

Just watched the first episode. I thought it was fantastic. Can't wait to see Teds return to London next week.
