Also, Titans is cooler than the Justice League. I hope they do a great job with them.

This reminds me. I watched all of the Titans seasons on MAX except for the series finale. I let our MAX sub run out forgetting I had literally one episode left to finish the whole thing. Dammit.
I wasn't really feeling this season, kind of forgettable. I don't mind them leaning into horror a bit like they have been but this one got a little overly supernatural.

I didn't really like it all that much either but not completing it bothers me. I'm sure we will end up getting HBO again at some point at which point I'll knock it out.

Seems weird to hire the same guy that just made a movie in the DCEU you're trying to move away from.

It's a balance. On one hand, yeah, Muschietti made a sh*t superhero movie in the DCEU. But on the other hand, that was under completely different leadership, with completely different execs. But he's still a Warner Bros guy through and through, made both It movies for them, along with The Flash, and everyone else there is super familiar/comfortable with him in general. They like him, he's made good movies before, he's more than capable, and I'm assuming they're assuming he can do so again, this time with Gunn & co overseeing.

Still makes no sense to me. It'd be like if Lucasfilm decided to reboot the Sequel Trilogy and hired Rian Johnson again.

Media: What was your strategic thinking for having Muschietti direct in a rebooted DCU?

Gunn: Somehow, he came back.

Idk. I'm skeptical Green Lanterns can look good in live action. There are some things that will just be hard to replicate off the page or in animation without looking super corny.

I'll be happy if they prove me wrong though!

Nice vague tweet. Those big names developed the pilot and Bible while other unamed writers are writing the show?
TCTTS

Vague? That's how every show works. They'll start a writers room full of staff writers, while those three also write/oversee as showrunners.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it or Gunn is using industry speak I'm missing, but his Tweet doesn't say that Mundy, King, Lindelof are showrunners or writers on this series. His Tweet says that they wrote the pilot and the show bible. And a team of writers is being assembled to write the show, implying not those people. No showrunners is announced in Gunn's tweet

I don't know about you but if I had gotten Mundy, King, Lindelof to be my showrunners I would announce them as my showrunners instead of something else.

the best DC thing remains Justice League, and the John Stewart version voiced by Phil LeMarr doubles down on that.

Writing the pilot/bible automatically implies showrunner. I guess maybe Gunn could have clarified, but that's such standard procedure that it probably didn't even cross his mind. Outside of super rare occurrences where the pilot/bible writer was fired for some super rare reason, before a second episode was even written, I can't think of a single instance where that same writer didn't go on to be either the showrunner or co-showrunner. Granted, all three of Mundy, King, and Lindelof might not each be in the writers room, together, every single day, but I bet at least two of them will, or they do some kind of rotation-type thing. Either way, all three will absolutely shepherd the series in some form or fashion.

Not confirmed yet, but if true, Gunn continues to stack the DCU with incredible (and in this case, incredibly funny) talent...

Oh ****, you're right. Even better! And a show with their brand of humor would fit perfectly with what Gunn already started with Peacemaker. Complete polar opposite to Marvel show's style, which is exactly what DC needs to aim for.

It's so incredibly weird that the first entry of the DCU is set to be...

- An animated monster/superhero series (Creature Commandos).

- One that serves as a quasi-sequel to the first season of a live-action DCEU show (Peacemaker) that is no longer canon.

- Despite Gunn saying many of the characters and events from Peacemaker season one are cannon, just not the season itself.

- And that at least a character or two from this animated monster/superhero series is going to appear in Gunn's live-action Superman next summer.

Quote:

"Since taking the reins, our true north has been to bring DC film, TV, animation and gaming into alignment under a single banner and bring a sense of unity and consistency into the DCU as a whole. This frees us to create a range of products that are diverse and compelling, and deliver great stand-alone entertainment experiences on every medium, while also being part of a larger story that we're telling within our unified DCU."

Gunn continued, "What this means in practical terms is that our characters can move in and out of animation or jump into a game or onto the big screen, but they will remain consistent throughout: same character, same history, same actor."

He pointed out that Davis reprises the role of Waller after previously playing the character in live-action projects including the Suicide Squad films and the series Peacemaker.

"The new series picks up directly after our Peacemaker season one finale, which leaves Waller with her hands tied operationally, meaning that she's no longer able to get away with putting human lives on the line to carry out her clandestine morally questionable missions," the filmmaker shared in his video. "Instead, she recruits a ragtag band of misfits, not unlike the Suicide Squad and Peacemaker."

Gunn noted that what makes this show's leads different is that they "are actual literal monsters, and I can't wait for you to meet them. Creating this series has been one of the absolute joys of my life."

That said, Creature Commandos actually looks/sounds pretty fun?

And I do appreciate how much care is apparently going into the DCU feeling more and more connected, with a true captain steering the ship.

It's just such a random way to kick it all off, that's all.
