The Brits treat the F-bomb about the same as we treat darn. The show sort of plays on that stereotype.
I think Sudeikis said in an interview that Apple censors asked him not to use the "c word" (rhymes with "punt") even though it is apparently thrown around a lot in England and isn't considered as offensive as it is here.

But could they replace the E with a U on a Roy Kent jersey?

That'll be 5 pounds for making me think it.

Speaking of this, today I just found out what the Welsh word for 100 is.

Ted's series of f-bombs with his mom were unnecessary and jarring.

More importantly, they were completely out of character. Go back and watch all three seasons if you like. When did he ever drop an f-bomb -- even in the most difficult of encounters where frustration or outrage might have given cause to do so?

It's not an indictment of the use of the word. Goodness knows it's used often enough by other characters. But to throw it in just because you can -- for shock value -- and betray the character profile you've consistently built over multiple seasons?
I thought it was the perfect time for him to use the word. It caught me by surprise and I believe it's the first time he cussed on the show.

There we go. Fixed it for you. Plenty thought Colln's storyline progressed the "plot" quite well. Feel free to disagree but either way you'll be OK.
Colin's story line was good. Keeley's just seemed forced.

If it had been a man, would anyone mind?

The whole relationship didn't change one iota of the story, did it?

Colin or Keeley? Colin's just made more sense. Keeley has been run through more than a train tunnel and now she's all of a sudden attracted to a woman. It didn't take or add anything to the story but it made her character seem absurd.

I love the arc that all the characters in the show took. It was sweet and fun. That was just annoying and seemed to be just for the sake of doing it or trying to add a story layer onto a theme, which is what Lasso did a lot of the time.

It's a minor complaint.

Why would I ask what if it had been a man if it was about Colin?

Man or woman, take away that story and it changes nothing.

Take away the three malcontents in the pub and it changes nothing.

I think these two were important to the story arc. Yes, neither really changed anything but they certainly added to the story. Nate's helped make him more sympathetic and showed him that he could be loved unconditionally without the pressure he put on himself. The three malcontents showed the allegiance and love that English soccer fans have for the teams as they endure the inevitable ups and down.

Yes, it bothered me that it was a woman because it was just unbelievable and unnecessary. It would have been fine if Keeley had been a lesbian from the get go. So don't make it about gay or not gay, please.

And a Premier League player coming out of the closet, a first, somehow adds nothing to the "story' while Nates GF and three drunks adds something of consequence?

Interesting take.

To be fair it's been established at the beginning of the show that she's a fairly "famous" WAG.

She's clearly a party girl that has been out and about. "When I was 18, I dated a 23 years footballer. I'm now almost 30 and still dating a 23 year old footballer." I'm comfortable in the assumption that she's been lose with her body and we have no evidence that she has dated a woman before.

There was no mention of her dating women before, and most would assume a football WAG to refer to a the f-buddy of a male footballer. Not sure what the term is for the partners of female footballers.

Not that I care at all about the proclivities of a fictional tv character.

Sound like you're a guy on the internet looking for a fight. I wouldn't oblige except for I clicked on this thread looking for some Lasso news only to find you being obtuse.

The Keeley-Jack storyline was a complete waste of time and unentertaining. In fact it detracted from the only entertaining aspects of the PR firm, which were the interactions with Juicy the CFO as well as the dorky office drone.

As to your pointless point about how that plotline didn't change anything, you're missing the opportunity cost. There are limited episodes and limited minutes in each episode. They wasted far too many on an unentertaining plotline which necessarily means you have to give short shrift to critical things like the team and Nate's story arc, which was rushed and hamhanded by this show's standard.

Could you get rid of the three drunks at the pub? Sure, but they provided comedic value and a window into the connection between team and community.

The reason the nature of the relationship is relevant is because it's pretty easy to conclude that they shoehorned it in for the primary purpose of featuring another alternative lifestyle on the show. They made the story secondary to the SJW goal with that decision, and that hurt the show.

I couldn't agree more. But it's not any more pointless than any other dead story.

My point is, if it had been a dude, no one would be ridiculously upset about it.
DTP02

Is anyone "ridiculously upset" about it? Your evidence for that would be that it's gotten discussed on a discussion board, with many people viewing it negatively?

Hollywood is nothing if not predictable in hammering SJW talking points and way overrepresenting favored demographics, so we've all become inured to it to some extent when it inevitably happens. If it had been a male boss with that lame of a plot, it would have been the same waste of time but people would have had to conclude it was just a creative whiff by the show's writers and runners.

People still would have thought it was a waste of time that hurt the quality of the season, but there wouldn't have been the obvious motive to be irritated by. It would have been viewed as negligent vs intentional, and people are always going to judge intentional (agenda driven) things more harshly.

I loved Keeley's character and don't have any problems with her storyline. She represented what Ted wanted to be: honest and transparent. Everyone went to Keeley for advice or opinion bc she set everyone straight with a touch of humanity.

The downside is that she didn't take her own advice and really was a mess. Her self doubt and vulnerability led her to Jack and I believe that's what they were trying to show. They partnered her with Jack to show that she really saw everybody in the same way and didn't care about anything else but the individual. Jack excelled where Jamie and Roy had failed; her ability to take care of Keeley. However, it took her a while to get past Jack's lavish lifestyle and showering with attention and gifts when Jack was really afraid to show everyone her true self. That's just not the Keeley way!

If you don't get Keeley, it's because you're not on the same level as she is and that's okay; an open mind prevails in this case. Her story arc was important because she matured throughout the show enough to understand that she'd be okay if she wasn't with anyone. She didn't need anyone to stand on her own to two feet because Roy, Jamie, nor Jack weren't going to give her what she really needed; she needed to find out who she was without them.

In some ways, her storyline paralleled Rebecca's in that they were able to be comfortable with who they were in their own skin by the show's end.

One of the show's theme is that the character gains something from a loss and Keeley's loss of her company and relationship with Jack is just another example of this theme.
Ghost of Andrew Eaton
How long do you want to ignore this user?
She's a really great character. As stated earlier, the arc of all the characters except for Rupert were really enjoyable. They're transformation mirrored that of the club and it was heartwarming. Such a good show.
