Had a long car ride today, so been listening to the audiobook since I posted.

This is the Cosmere's first real Avengers-type book, and it couldn't be more awesome

Also, the Ghostbloods symbol is from Mare's drawing of the flower from The Final Empire! God I love Sanderson.

Because this thread has turned into everything Cosmere, who else had the Lost Metal delivered to them, today?

It's been so long since I read the others, so i may need to reread them before starting on this one.

EDIT: Also, Sanderson's release event. He reads a chapter from Stormlight 5.

I'm definitely doing a reread first.

I love how accessible Brandon is to fans and how he puts chapters out ahead of time, but man it makes being excited about the Cosmere on the internet so stinking hard if you like to avoid stuff before release.

Finished my Mistborn Era 2 reread Monday night, I'm ready.

Me too. Getting through Secret History now and on to The Lost Metal.

So, was watching Brandon's live stream. He was talking about races and such when casting for Stormlight, and thank god, he really is pushing to keep the various cultures racially consistent. He said maybe a little more mixture along borders of countries.

One thing that surprised me was when he discussed casting the Alethi. He was leaning closest to casting Asian Americans as the Alethi. Did anyone else see Asians in their mind when reading the books? I always pictured the Alethi as more middle eastern or indian in skin tone and look. I guess because they always describe the Alethi as taller than the other races of Roshar and darker complected.

Yeah in my head I always pictured them as what we see the ancient Persian depicted like (and then complection-wise a little darker than King Xerxes in 300)

Of course street smart seemingly impulsive Wayne would be a venture capitalist and a titan of industry and entertainment for the Elendel Basin. Great misdirection making it look like he had bookies or creditors after him, but it's his wealth management consultants.

Finished it yesterday. Thought it was a great end to Era 2. Ready to see how Noseball takes off as a sport in Era 3.

My sister has turned me into a book elitist. So I did not get it delivered today. I have the other three in the white UK soft covers. So I have to get the fourth matching now…..which is not available yet damnit. The HB version is but it'll be a couple months at least before they release the softcover version of it.

Anyone else in this predicament??

Doing my reread before starting the new book. I'd almost forgotten how much I enjoy these characters. I always picture Wax as Wyatt from Tombstone, and Wayne as Jake from Silverado.

I feel so overwhelmed. I wish I had more time to focus on Sanderson's works. I have read all of the Stormlight books but that is it so far. I just started Mistborn last week and am loving it so far, and have ordered the surprise novels on the kickstarter site, but just found out he has weekly updates on YT on his projects? I am guessing those updates won't mean much to me since I have not read all of his other books. What is Lost Metal? I don't even see it listed on his webpage in the different series. Is it part of a series or a stand alone? I really wish I had more time to focus on reading them, and I'm someone who usually reads around 80 books per year, just not much fantasy...

There are 2 eras of mistborn currently, Lost metal is the 4th and final book of the 2nd era. I would highly recommend the first trilogy the second trilogy and secret history before reading Lost Metal.

No big deal

They were gone in like 45 seconds. Was spamming the refresh button non stop at 1055 onwards.

Hit the Sanderlanche last night and ended up staying up past 2 because there was no way I was putting it down at that point. Loved it! Thought there'd be more Malwiche stuff, but I'm not complaining. Any more cosmere Easter eggs and I think I'd have drowned in them.

Doing a reread of Sanderson because it has honestly been years.

Got through Mistborn Eras 1 and 2 (but not Lost Metal) and read Cosmere Unbounded. I will probably skip Elantris for now but loved Emperor's Soul and Secret history is honestly a turning point for the Cosmere.

Starting Stormlight right now, only ever read the 1st 3 and not Rhythm of War. Want to get through those four before hopping back to Lost Metal.

Make sure to read the two novellas before Stormlight 3 and 4.

I actually really enjoyed Elantris, how come folks don't regard it that well? To be fair I haven't gotten to storm light yet

Not sure! I loved Elantris as well. I thought in terms of a built up culture/religion/world/setting it was really neat. Also a couple of very compelling characters.

For me, I was expecting the same awesome magic systems I've come to expect from Sanderson... and it's not really there. I found the book kind of depressing. Definitely my least favorite of his books.

Also... haven't read Stormlight?!? Wow... you are in for a treat. Words of Radiance may be my favorite fantasy novel of all time.

Yeah my friend who introduced me to him this year recommended this reading order:

Mistborn trilogy
Elantris
Warbraker
Arcanum Unbound (sans Edgedancer)
Wax & Wane series
Stormlight:
-WOK
-KOR
- now read Edgedancer
- Oathbringer
- Dawnshard (short story)
- ROW

I'm only on Arcanum unbound!

Do NOT read Secret History in Arcanum Unbounded before reading Wax & Wayne book 3. Big spoiler there.

It's his first book published, and you can just tell in regards to character development in others. His other books are better imo.

One of the great things about the cosmere though is you can go back and re-read after finishing everything the first time and pick up a bunch of connections in other series that flew over your head the first time. I recently did this and enjoyed Elantris a lot more.

Ya know, I think I am about to speak some heresy but I am not actually sure if I appreciate the full interconnected Cosmere universe. Do we know if he is going to have some final final series that ties absolutely everything together or something? If not, it all seems kind of pointless and extraneous and more to keep track of.

Also my leatherbound Wax and Wayne bundle shipped. I didn't think it was happening till late Q1. Quite the pleasant surprise though!

Oh I loved Elantris but I actually read it more recently so don't feel the need to include it right now

I am appreciating WoK more this second go round but I still think Mistborn Era 1 and 2 are better novels (for me personally). It helps having a better understanding of the cosmere after many hours lost diving into Coppermind (Sanderson wiki)

Finished Lost Metal, Wayne went out like a champ and is one of the Cosmere's best characters beginning to end, up with Lightsong and Lift(her story isn't finished yet). That's about as close to teary eyed as I've gotten in the Cosmere. Is it safe to say that it's awesome having Shai from Emperor's Soul in this book. She seems to have more self confidence since her captivity. I would have loved to see her interaction with Hoid in this book. This brings me to my main gripe in this book, I feel like with Metallic arts and the different combos there should have been more metalborn using their powers in interesting ways like Wax increasing his weight with Feruchemy and having more force behind his coin shots with Allomancy. That's an awesome combo and frankly I would have liked to see more combos and uses of the powers. I really like to see the interactions of technological advancement and the metalborn like Marasi's grenades. I really hope era 3 increases it even more so with the addition of computers and smart technology.

It is all going to interconnect. It is becoming more obvious and important in every book. I think the second half of Stormlight will really bring it together.

I really like Elantris as well. I think it is much better than Warbreaker.
