Nobody really understands dawnshards. Rysn's novella is the most we have on the subject.

Jesus, the overuse of spoiler tags in this thread...

We either need a new thread, or just assume the Sanderson Stormlight thread will have spoilers for a Stormlight book, months after release. Go read first, then come to the thread.

Hoid doesn't say more than a sentence or two in any book, other than the novella, Secret History. Do not read that until you read all of Mistborn. For most enjoyable response, don't read Secret History until you read Bands of Mourning. Does it ruin it? Not really, but reading Secret History first would keep you from being hit by the reveal at the end of Bands of Mourning.

Warbreaker is one of my favorites and will give you a backstory of 3 of the characters you have met in Stormlight.

There is nothing in any of the published Cosmere books that will tell you anything about the dawnshards, other than the Dawnshard novella and some hints in Stormlight. As for the Shards of Adonalsium, those are not the Dawnshards. You will get some Shard screen time in the Mistborn series, as both Ruin and Preservation are on Scadrial.

Elantris is boring, though it will shed some light on the Seon you see in Rhythm of War.

Alright, well I'm going to not use any spoiler tags on this, so read ahead at own risk:

Theory I heard on Youtube about who Odium will appoint as champion to face Dalinar - Dalinar's grand-nephew, Gavinor.

I really, really like that idea, as it is the perfect culmination of Dalinar and Taravingian's character arcs.

I personally think Dalinar will lead another Oathpact to bridge to Arc 2 (books 6-10).

I will be disappointed if we don't get POV for Dalinar or the others in Arc 2.

Well, Brandon has gone on the record I believe saying second half will feature Lift and others that we haven't gotten a POV from. My understanding is Lift will be the central figure similar to Kaladin in the first five.

It will suck for me if the focus goes too far off of Kaladin. He's by far my favorite character, maybe in all fantasy fiction.

Yeah, I misinterpreted what the two sets of 5 are for stormlight. Looks like they'll be about a decade later (story wise).

Apparently book 7 will be have Renarins flashback story and he'll be around 30 years old at that point.

I have not seen Brandon ever say that Lift will be the central figure. I have seen that she will be a character and a POV, but not necessarily THE central character.

I'm fairly sure Kaladin will die in the first arc. If I have to read another 6 books with him being depressed for 500 pages, each book, then I'm going to shoot myself.

Well...he just hit the 4th Ideal. I can't remember...aren't there like...7? I really don't see him killing Kaladin off until he's hit the last one. Then again, I was convinced he was killing Dalinar off in Oathbringer, so what do I know?
Lathspell

There are 5 ideals. We haven't been told what the 5th ideal for the Windrunners does. We got an idea for the Skybreakers.

I don't see him completely abandoning his main cast of POV characters unless he kills some off or they are unavailable for several books. I think that means either deaths or they are fulfilling a new Oathpact on Braize.

Also, because we realize from Odium that his plans are more Cosmere related, not just Roshar, and we are getting his final showdown with Dalinar in book 5, I think the humans lose the conflict, somehow, or release Odium from the Rosharan system and end up having to chase down his forces across the Cosmere.

We know the Wax and Wayne series takes place between arc 1 and arc 2 of Stormlight, so maybe we see something at the end of Mistborn era 2.

We have been told era 3 of Mistborn will be similar to our 1980's, and will be a spy thriller type story. Perhaps it is some form of fight against the larger cosmere invasion of Odium.

Did not spoiler tag anything because that is all conjecture.

Yes. Kalidan jumped off a tower, said some words, and now he is fixed forever. He is happy about life and his years of depression have ended.

Lord no. I cannot imagine how nerve racking that would make reading book five.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "Sanderlanche."

Just finished. Definitely some parts that were longer than needed. But... Sanderson just does not miss.

I have yet to read a book of his that I can put down. The poopooing of Elantris on here baffles me.

That said... I loved starting to see the Cosmere as a whole take shape. Going to be really interesting to see how the W&W era of Mistborn ends and then Stormlight #5. Gonna to be a fun ride boys and girls!

Is Elantris Sanderson's weakest Cosmere novel? Yes. Is Elantris still pretty stinking good? Yes.

War breaker is my least favorite. I liked Elantris's premise.

Rhythm of War is my least favorite of the storm light archives. First time I had to grind through one of his books.

I had to push myself to read Elantris, and found myself nodding off more than I should in a Sanderson novel.

Warbreaker is one of my favorite Sanderson books.

Yeah you can definitely tell Elantris is his first novel.

Put me down as an Elantris fan and not a War breaker fan. Although I am feeling both are due for a reread after I finish rereading original Mistborn trilogy.

So I just finished RoW and I would like to point out that the True Desolation and the likely upcoming Cosmere war was started because of a sibling rivalry. That's like Starlord punches Thanos levels of character stupidity.

Also the Die Hard poster is accurate, except that instead of a merry band of Voidbringer hijackers his greatest enemy is crippling depression.

It really seems that Cultivation is the real puppet master of the 3 shards, but I have no idea what she's after. We'll see how well she can control Odium now... We'll also see how smart Hoid is now and if he can take a curveball. Also I'm rooting for Thaidakar just because of who he is...
heddleston

Cultivation definitely pulls strings, as we've seen with Dalinar, Lift, and Odium, but we also see how she's been so overpowered by the shard that she overestimates her ability to do so. I don't think she has any nefarious designs, but the shard itself is consumed by nudging things to grow. I'd agree doesn't figure out who Odium is soon she could be in big big trouble.

I have yet to read any Skyward books (how are they?) but Brandon posted on FB today that he finished Skyward #3 and is moving on to Wax and Wayne #4. He added, not an april fool's joke.
