Just got out...

Absolutely incredible

So this was pretty cool.

I've posted several times in the past that I use sons as barometers on movies because kids are so brutally honest.

My 13 year old went with a "watch party" to Alamo Draft House this morning. I was taking care of clients until late in the afternoon.

I talk to my son tonight when I got home around 6:00. He's like so waiting for my truck to pull up, he's in the driveway shooting baskets and I almost hit him as he runs in front of me cause he wants to catch me at the door:

• Dad, dad, this was the best Avengers movie, period, not even close
• Dad, dad, you don't even get it, this is the best MCU movie, period. Not even close.
• Dad, dad, I cried in front of my friends, I was so embarrassed, I couldn't help it, I tried. I know you hate crying but it had some really, really sad parts.
• Dad, dad, I've never seen a movie like this....I gotta tell you about it...
• Me: zip it. I love that you loved it. But I'm going to try to take your brother tomorrow. I DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED. DO NOT SPOIL IT FOR ME. DO NOT SPOIL IT FOR YOUR BROTHER.
• ok, ok. Dad, I just want to talk to you about it so much. PLease take (second son) tomorrow so we can talk about it. Please.
• Me: I'll try kiddo. Glad you loved it.

Damn. Never seen either of my boys react to a movie like that. Thank you Disney/Marvel for the joy, inspiration, and emotion. This is how I felt about SW when I was a kid.

Not mine.

Didn't drop a single cent on those movies.

This is the new blockbuster benchmark.

And one of the top five theater-going experiences of my life.

It will be years - maybe even a decade, if not far longer - before we get something this massive, this clever, this sentimental, this funny, and this awesome again in terms of long-form blockbuster filmmaking. To be completely honest, I don't see how this is ever replicated again; decades of stories/comics culminating in 11 years of movies culminating in literally the best possible finale imaginable.

I'm just in awe at how utterly perfect that was.

And the crowd... oh, man, the crowd... I've never seen a movie with an audience this into it before. There was SO MUCH cheering throughout, but one moment, in particular, was literally on the level of a football game, the eruption was so loud. Granted, this was LA at the Chinese Theater on opening weekend, so it's definitely skewed, but the crowd absolutely lost their minds like nothing I've ever heard or experienced in LA before, on multiple occasions. It's hard to put into words just how insanely memorable and fun this experience was.

And the movie itself literally could not have been any better. Each character and each thread has the EXACT right arc and the EXACT right ending. Overall, it's just so damn satisfying in every regard. The plotting, the set-ups, the callbacks, the winks... it's all just such staggeringly smart and clever storytelling.

I'm jealous of those of you who haven't seen it yet, because this kind of movie and this kind of experience comes along once in a generation. Seriously. Cherish this. It's that good that I have no qualm saying something so cheesy and hyperbolic.

I'm just glad I get to say I was there opening weekend.

What a movie.

Welp.... it's a gd masterpiece. Seriously, almost a perfect blockbuster. I'll leave st that to avoid spoilers, but it's just as epic, satisfying, and emotional as people are saying.
