So, I thought this would beat out Episode IX but that it would be close. Now, I'm starting to think no way it is close. It will be interesting to see what kind of legs this has beyond the first week or two.

Star Wars will murder at the box office no matter what but I think the excitement levels for end game are far above anything for episode 9 because of the divisiveness of TLJ. Episode 9 might turn it around and have a stronger finish than endgame but I think end game will blow it out of the water opening weekend.

Overall domestic - SW wins, imo. I don't even think Endgame can beat out TFA's record, tbh. It might come really close, though.

Domestic I think Endgame tops IX. Neither will likey top XI, but I think Endgame will make a run at it.

Gotta remember that IX has the advantage based on release date alone. Endgame has to compete with all of summer. IX will have virtually no competition for months.

Come December, the fact that IX is being advertised as "the end of the saga" is going to outweigh almost all TLJ ill-will. We're already seeing the effects of that after just one teaser trailer. It's going to be a can't-miss blockbuster event with virtually no competition. It's not just the end of the sequel trilogy, it's the end of all nine movies, and they're only going to underline that fact more and more. Also, if it's good, and everyone and their dog is raving about it, are there really people who would STILL sit it out because of TLJ? I highly doubt it. Again, we're not talking about opening weekend, we're talking about the entire run. Endgame will have an insane opening weekend - probably the biggest of all time, and I seriously doubt IX's opening weekend will top it - but Endgame just has too much competition over the next six weeks or so to beat IX in the long run. Now, if IX sucks - and it very well could - my argument is of course moot. I'm assuming Abrams is going to come through, though.

That's what I had hoped for TFA also...

Instead, all we got was a **** story sprinkled with nostalgia.

I wasn't a huge fan of TFA either, but fact is it's sitting at 92% on RT right now. If TROS is anywhere close to that, I consider that Abrams "coming through."

At the time they said he wouldn't show up until GotG3. I would assume that's still the case. Would be crazy to try to throw another Thor/Captain Marvel level character into the mix with no backstory.

The story details matter more to me than the hype, good will, and reviews. I'm optimistic, but I'll absolutely skip it if JJ doesn't "fix" TLJ in a satisfactory manner for me.

What he said. As it currently stands don't give a crap about episode 9 until I see some reviews.
