I am on board with the clone theory. It ties in with the mirror scene in TLJ so well.

Speaking of which....have we had the ROTJ thread for this month yet?

Yea, I think action died off a bit on it though. Everyone is waiting for The Last Jedi thread, because that is going to be fun and harmonious.

Died off faster than any of the others for whatever reason...

I'm actually not that into any clone theories. Just kind of seems like a gimmick to me. I've yet to hear one that sounds like it would make a good movie.

Couple hours after the final TROS trailer/poster releases (the project is image-based, though, not video-based). So, early-mid October or so. I need the final trailer/poster to complete the project, but I still have a decent amount to do before then. It's... a lot... but again, something I'm just chipping away at in my off time here and there. For now, a small tease...

This is our last rodeo. We'll never have this again.

There will be more Star Wars, I'm sure, but not another episodic movie. Not this level of anticipation and hype.

My theory for a big reveal in the movie for the climactic battle is actually Rey and Ben fighting a clone of Luke in his prime. It pulls so directly from The Last Command, but would be a great moment in the theater when he walks out. Or pulls a helmet off and reveals he's one of the Sith Troopers protecting Palpatine.

I don't have a lot to offer to this thread other than this :

Episodes 1-8 of Star Wars have been about as simple as an 8 movie series could possibly be. There's one giant twist - Darth Vader is Luke and Leia's father. Other than that, everything is very formulaic, simple and straightforward. Do we really think episode 9 is going to be crazy complicated with all kinds of elements introduced that would confuse the average viewer that pays no attention to threads like this?

I think everyone is waaay overthinking it and in the end it's going to be a relatively straightforward and simple plot line. The way that Palpatine is involved will be the most complicated thing to navigate, and after that it'll be Rey and team needing to find something on the death star to defeat Palpatine and/or Kylo, the latter of which will have a redeeming moment before dying. (plus some other Canto Bright type side plot line to follow)

- The actual plot for at least the first two prequels is far more complicated than anything we're discussing here. The whole Sifo-Dyas back story/plot line in Attack of the Clones makes any Rey-is-a-clone theory seem like child's play, not to mention all the taxation/blockade crap from The Phantom Menace. I'm still scratching my head on some of that stuff...

- Once again, Abrams and Ridley are on record as saying Rey's parentage will be addressed yet again. Which means that anything more than what we've already been given is going to require a decent chunk of exposition. Besides, I honestly don't think any kind of Rey-is-a-clone scenario would be *that* hard to explain.

- There are rumors of multiple flashbacks and we have official confirmation that the history of The First Order will be addressed. In other words, we not only know this movie is tying together the entire saga, but it sounds like it's going back and filling in some blanks as well. Throwing Rey's history into all that seems pretty easy/natural.

- I won't get into here, but the credible and corroborated rumors of the final act are pretty insane. All indications are that we're getting a mind-bending action/fight sequence the likes of which we've never seen in a Star Wars movie before... and it sounds amazing.

In other words, because this is the ninth and final movie, we can throw precedent out the window. I'd say expect the unexpected.

Btw, I agree that Rey-is-a-clone (or that Palpatine at least had a hand in creating her) is *probably* a bridge too far. That's not a hill I'm willing to die on. It just makes a lot of sense to me, but I understand why some people aren't into it. That said, again, all indications are that they're going all-out with this movie, not just in terms of action, but in terms of story and likely doing some things a Star Wars movie has never done narratively.

I cannot. I cannot take this seriously.

Few questions for a casual Star Wars Fan

  • Finn has a new black girlfriend. Does that mean the Asian casino chick is gone? I hate Rian Johnson
  • Poe has a cool Uncharted 3 look going on
  • How and why are we still getting Carrie Fisher?

  • Interspecies love scene between a Gamorrean and a Bothan
  • Lines are said slower, and less intense
  • Lando breaks the 4th wall and says to the audience, "This is one wacky Star War, am I right?"
  • In-movie Twitter poll to figure out which one is Zuckuss and which one is 4-LOM
  • Boba Fett has red paint thrown on him when he wears his Wookie scalps to an awards show
  • Rey revealed to be clone of Rian Johnson
  • Every character from all 8 episodes teams up to fight Palpatine, but only after each of them says "Whatever it takes."

- I don't think that's Poe's new girlfriend, but I could be wrong. Rose is back and apparently still has a thing for Finn. Maybe this new character enters the picture and makes Rose jealous, but that feels way too easy.

- Whatever story Abrams is telling, he said he couldn't tell it without Leia playing a small but crucial roll.

Probably some bit of Jedi wisdom with a unique feminine perspective. Probably like "we'll beat them with love."

My dream ending for the full-length trailer in October.
Ben Solo lights up his grandfather's lightsaber ...

VO "Grandfather... I will finish ... what you started"

We watch Ben Solo wade in to take the fight to a reborn Palpatine and put an end to him once and for all.

Yeah this "all the movies have been simple" thing is just false.

In a way they're simple because anyone can just sit down in front of the screen and go "okay, everyone with a red light saber is bad." But, if you tried explaining the plot mechanics of the prequels to someone who had never seen a Star Wars movie you'd realize that they are definitely not simple stories.

They're a little simple for hardcore fans in part because you know how they end in the sense that we know the fates of all of the characters going in.

This movie is not beholden to that.

I also think people get caught in the trap of thinking that for something to be simple, everyone has to understand it. By that I mean there could more complicated reasons things happen, but on screen you don't really have to know the reasons behind it.
