If I remember correctly, yeah, that was the basic gist. Though I don't know if anyone outright "hated" it. I think critics loved and general audiences were basically just like, "Eh."

Still, usually when critics hate something, it's incredibly apparent on my Twitter feed. Yet, to this point, I haven't seen a single bit of negatively. That RT was legit shocking.

Yeah. Similarly for Aladdin. I had not read a single negative thing about it, my entire youtube feed was basically high to really high on it. So, was surprised it didn't get a fresh rating. The stellar audience score makes a lot more sense to me.

From the sound of it, I would be shocked if this fell below 85% audience score. Sounds like exactly the kind of monster movie people want to see on a big ass screen, and that's not what they got with the first one. (Which btw, I liked.)

Meh, I believe "movie critic" just doesn't mean anything anymore, at least to most people.

With the invention of the internet, there has been give or take 2 billion so-called entertainment and pop culture related websites. About 0.5% employ actual critical-thinking, articulate people. Hell, the vast majority of them don't even proofread an "article" before posting it.

It's all click-bait, including their movie reviews by "movie critics"...i.e. movie nerds who couldn't make it in the actual industry but don't want to get a real job, so they scrape by on $20,000 a year posting their movie reviews on low-rent websites and their local WB affiliate station. And the easiest way to get noticed is to try to be contrarian and outrageous, while appearing is if you're a true intellectual cinephile.

My ten-year-old son and I just re-watched Godzilla and Kong Skull Island, and are totally hyped about the movie this weekend.

Sitting at 52% on Rotten Tomatoes as of now

Yeah, that 39% was based on only 13 reviews. Surely it only goes up from here.

Here a really bad review for ya. It was the only one I had seen before coming here so I was shocked when I saw all the glowingly positive ones

Finally starting to see so many bad reviews that I just refunded my prime time Saturday night ticket at the Chinese Theater IMAX. Now I'm seeing it closer to my place, in LieMAX, at 4 PM on Thursday. Basically the most boring, uneventful time to see it. Hopefully my lowered expectations make for a decent experience, but I'm not hopeful. At least my Saturday night just opened up and I don't have to spend an hour in the car...

I'm confused...what about all of those critic twitter reactions you posted on the previous page that were losing their **** over the movie?

The only time I might let someone's opinion of a movie impact my own decision to see the movie or not is if it is someone that I actually know well, good friends or family. I have never given a crap if some critic hates or loves a movie; I don't ever look at this Rotten Tomatoes thing, feels like a cesspool where inevitably someone will throw out a political statement tied somehow to the movie ...

Godzilla movies feature giant monsters wreaking havoc. These movies are never going to win any awards or be critically acclaimed as a movie like, say, Gone With the Wind, are. The family is going to see this Friday evening (admittedly, I don't have to drive any further than 10 minutes to do so); I fully expect to enjoy every moment of this movie.

Just like with Venom, I don't think any amount of critic hate would phase my excitement for this movie. Grew up watching all the cheesy Godzilla movies, playing Godzilla video games, even watched the cartoon they used to have. Been looking forward to this movie for a long time.

It's Godzilla. You don't go to see it for the "drama" or "storyline". You go to see it to watch huge monsters beat the crap out of each other and destroy everything.

Dumbass reviewers.

I'm just as confused as you are. Granted, the very-first-to-see-it reactions, usually from a premiere of some sort, should ALWAYS be taken with a grain of salt. And we've seen a drop off before, from those reactions to the actual reviews days/weeks later. I just can't recall a drop this steep. I can't remember the last time there was unanimous praise not only from the first reactions, but in all the reactions in the days after, to suddenly utterly terrible reviews out of the blue like this. It's kind of crazy.

I'm honestly not worried. I am almost positive I will love it.

It's monsters destroy cities.

And it's not directed by Michael Bay.

Also, just to be clear, I'm not saying that I won't enjoy the movie or am letting critics dictate my every move. I'm still seeing the movie, and seeing it a full two days earlier than originally planned. It's just apparent now that this isn't going to be the massive, event blockbuster I was hoping it'd be; the kind where we all race home to discuss it on TexAgs. So I simply decided not to make such an event of it myself and spend all that time driving to Hollywood on a Saturday night.

So you're not almost as excited to see this vs Endgame?

If this movie doesn't end with a post-credits scene of SLJ recruiting Kong, I will consider it a massive failure.

Kong already crushed SLJ in Kong Skull Island. Perhaps they could send in the character that Loki played in that same movie?

Well, hell and damnation. I'm gonna be bummed if this is no good. Having said that I no longer pay attention to RT so what is on there is meaningless to me after it became a corrupt, social justice platform.

Having said that (again), and for other consideration, Metacritic is showing 48 and IMDb is at 7.6. So there at least seems to be some smoke to the mediocrity factor here. Wide range of opinions on metacritic.

Not sure why venom is a comparison here but I thought that movie was ok. 5 or 6 out of 10.

Well, got my IMAX ticket for tonight and I'm still excited.

My expectations are not not nearly as high as they were last week, but maybe that's a good thing.

I'm excited about the movie. I don't care at all what "critics" say. Usually when they say a movie is good, it sucks and vice versa.

Screw 'em.

out of curiosity, do y'all go to the Paladium off 99?

if so, sneak in your own drinks... the place went downhill after Regal bought them out. They seem to be out of soda's and ice all the times i've been lately.

A theater out of soda? Literally their biggest source of income?

Wow. Sounds like it's pretty terribly run.

I once went to Babes Chicken here in Dallas at noon and they had no chicken. This is a picture of me standing at counter when I was told that:

I live about 5 minutes from this theater and while it isn't what it was when it was Santikos, I've never had any issues like what you are describing. I usually don't go at peak times though

So what are the odds that King Kong shows up at the end of this bad boy.
Flashdiaz
How long do you want to ignore this user?
happened at Endgame and Lego Movie 2. Peak times is no excuse, it's when they make their money so they should staff accordingly. Only had 4 concessions lines open which led to long lines. The drink area was extremely messy, no lids for cups. I've been going to this theater since it opened and it took a noticeable dive when Regal took over. I hope they fix it because I do like the theater.
