Oh I know. I just like the legends about Lansky and how much money he might have had.

Lansky is my favorite mob guy of all time, so I'm right there with you. Hell, when we eased restrictions with our Cuba relationship over the last couple years, I asked my brothers if they were ready to get in there and start our Cuba plan to build up a resort and casino, Lansky style

Honestly it seems to me like you think dirty mob bosses have more capital on hand than they really do. A mob guy as big as Gotti was worth maybe 10 million at most, and that's not nearly close to what he could have actually liquidated at any time.

Not just capital on hand, but access to more. VV is all alone? No backers? Every body has someone to answer to and borrow from. But not in this story. VV used all of his own money? He's broke now?

It's pretty clear he's trying to do this mostly on his own in an effort to get out of the life. I can see where he's not going to try and find anyone he might be beholden to later on.

Exactly. He was going all in.

It's a deal that will involve the state and federal government due to grants that are expected to be issued from purchases along the corridor. I highly doubt he's able to just call in every illegal entity he knows to make up the cash.

Again, it's just my opinion that you may be putting VV's character up into an echelon of status that he isn't in. Hes a corrupt businessman who wreaks havoc in a corrupt and industrial suburb. That doesn't exactly scream "multi multi millionaire"

Uh, did you see his house? That's an appearance of a multi, multi millionaire. He needs the russian's money too. And is trying hard to convince the guy to buy in.

To me it's the appearance of a guy living above his means as a show of status. Especially a mob boss. But again, even a guy with a house like that in Cali who double mortgaged could easily not have 5 million in personal liquidated assets to make a deal like this. I guess we just disagree on how believable it could be.

Wonder if RM's sister is in on this. She is into the videotape thingy.

Ok. It's time to do this and settle this for all.

Ray Velcoro- Colin Farrell or CF
Ani Bezzerides-Rachel McAdams or RM
Paul Woodrugh-Taylor Kitsch or TK or Friday Night Lights
Frank Seymon- Vince Vaughn or VV

Ha, I love that we had to do a VERY similar post last season. Agreed, btw.

I'm still struggling with taking VV seriously in a lot of his scenes.

He was great in the opening scene and conveying the emotion of being a little boy locked in a basement, but I still have that lingering typecast of VV in my head every time he comes on screen. His sarcasm voice is not really different than his serious voice apparently. I'd hate to be one of his kids.

I just rewatched episode 2. I don't know how they're going to explain Velcoro's surviving. I don't care what kind of load birdman had, it was six inches away from his abdomen. He should be in two halves.

- So we got confirmation that Woodrough is gay.
- The fight scene with Seymon seemed a bit cheesy.
- No way Velcoro survives that rubber buckshot, but whatever, doesn't really bother me that much.
- Why does the state police have that guy following Woodrough?

starting to wonder if VV's wife is in on it.

also need more development of Rachel McAdams' character. Not much of it in episode 3

We're those VV's teeth? I know he pulled out the grill of the club owner, but he kept running his tongue around when his wife was talking to him. Didn't think he even got hit.

Need to RE watch the dirt bike race scene again, but I think it's starting to look more like Woodrugh was a straight dude who ended up having a gay fling with that guy over in the ME during the ****ed up stuff they were doing.

His comments about not going to meetings any more because "if you want to get over something, remembering it in every detail ain't the right way" was clearly not about the job, but about the gay episode, which the friend then counters with "embracing it."

Woodrugh chalks it up to that time as "combat," and he's trying to include the gay affair in that as well.

Now that he's back, he's not only struggling with what happened over there that was job related, but also the gay fling. Hes struggling with forgetting it and going back to being a straight dude.

Big picture, it seems like the killer is messing with them. Drops Caspar's body in a park on the PCH, killing the mob bro and leaving his body on display, burning the getaway car....

T&P for Ronnie Blevins '99.

Is it really that different than last season? This show has always been a slow burn detective story.

I don't think so, but they got away with it because of the acting of MM and WH. This story and setting aren't nearly as interesting as the first season was and because of that this one feels much slower, at least for me.

I'm interested in the all the characters but not nearly as much as I was the first season. I'll keep watching but so far it's pretty meh.
