Interesting. This series is set in the (near) future. Our best data for a firm date is found on the newspaper with the first installment of the exposee. It is dated "Tuesday, October 27, 2015" (per page A11 of the newspaper we saw in the office of VV's casino).
The timeline for the rest of the episode is not entirely clear, but the episode DID NOT occur on one day. Setting aside the flashback to VV and Delcoro, it seems to have occurred over about two weeks.
Delcoro is a divorced dad. Divorced dads get to drop their kids at school on the Monday after 1/3/5 weekends. Dropoff scene (first scene in the episode) was thus a Monday. Based upon the date on the newspaper, this dropoff was probably two Mondays earlier or 19-October, the Monday after the third Friday. Delcoro's shirt has white buttons versus the brown buttons in most of the other scenes.
The next scene is the custody lawyer's office. Delcoro's shirt now has dark buttons. Thus, almost certainly a different day from school drop-off.
Next scene is flashback to initial meeting between VV and Delcoro. Not important to the timeline.
Next scene is VV and hot redhead wife getting ready for the big meeting. Clearly early morning. Certainly earlier than a lawyer would have met with a client. Probably a different day from Delcoro's family law meeting.
Next scene later that day (still prior to the big meeting) is at VV's casino. This is where we see the newspaper referenced above.
The bulk of the episode seems to occur on this date.
Next scene is the loading and driving of Caspere's body. No timeline info that I could see. License plate on the killer's car is 2PCE109. Older maroon Cadillac. May be important later. They focused too long for it to be insignificant.
Next scene is Bezzerides' morning after. No timeline.
Next scene is the LA County SD raid on the webcam house. It is SHOWN after in the episode after VV reads this article, but the calendar on the wall in the webcam house is displaying SEPTEMBER 2015. This could be lazy employees, but the correct date would seem important in their business (credit card charges and such). In other words, this scene MAY have occurred on an earlier date.
Next scene is Delcoro walking from his house to the police department next door. He reads the same article as VV, on the same page of the same newspaper, dated the same day. This would not seem to be the same day as the lawyer meeting, because it seems he just woke up for the day. Also, he removes a parking ticket from the windshield of his car, so it seems to have been sitting for a while (maybe overnight). Delcoro is assigned the missing person case.
Next scene is Woodrough's traffic stop, followed immediately by his "dressing down" from his Captain. Cannot be the same day as the traffic stop, because the Captain says "this is not you, but it has the tabloids focused on that (Black Mountain) mercenary work." No tabloid got the story from the actress, researched Woodrough's background and published a story all on the same day. (Did anyone else think his Captain looks like Slider from Top Gun?)
Next scene is VV's big reception, before arrival of the Moscow guy. No timeline data.
Next is interview of Caspere's staff. Delcoro still wearing shirt with brown buttons and bolo.
Next scene is Delcoro's visit to Caspere's pad. Brown buttons and bolo.
Return to VV reception. Russian arrives.
Next scene is the Cadillac still driving Caspere's body on a tour of California. No timeline.
Next scene is Bezzerides delivering the Foreclosure Notice. It seems to be dated October 16, 2015. No explanation for a delay of almost two weeks in serving it. (Again, love the huge TV in the home about to be foreclosed).
Return to VV's big reception.
Bezzerides goes to her Dad's Pantacapaeum Institute. Listens to presentation.
Delcoro beats the reporter. Brown buttons and no bolo, probably removed to avoid losing it in the assault.
Return to Bezzerides and her Dad.
Delcoro at his son's school. Stepdad says "Hey Ray, you're not until next Friday." He aso says "Camping trip was last weekend." There WAS a weekend between the 19-October dropoff scene and the newspaper article eight days later. The stepdad also says that the kid's shoes were stolen and destroyed "last week."
We know this event occurred after the beating of the reporter and the same day because of the reference to blood on his clothes. Brown buttons and no bolo. Apparently, he did not put it back on after removing his ski mask post assault.
Bezzerides in women's locker room with all her throwing knives.
Woodrough at his girlfriend's apartment.
VV and the Russian in the office after thee reception. It is still early, because they are meeting for dinner afterwards.
Delcoro at Aspen's house. It is dark now. Still the shirt with the brown buttons. Bolo back on.
Cadillac drops Caspere on park bench. Late night, given the lack of traffic.
Woodrough leaves his woman's apartment, after discussing his scars (sort of). Takes insane motorcycle ride.
VV and Delcoro meet in the dive bar. We see the waitress with the nasty facial scars. Brown buttons and bolo.
Bezzerides at the casino.
Woodrough continues crazy bike ride. Finds body of Caspere. Calls it in.
Delcoro in dive bar, passed out in booth.
Bezzerides tossed from casino, probably for being too drunk. Gets call on Caspere murder while still in parking lot. Casino sign is blue neon. Is it VV's casino?
Delcoro gets call on Caspere murder. Wakes him from nap in dive bar. Boss: "I need you in Ventura. PCH." Etcetera.
All three cops view the body.
