As a female, I thought that Superman was cast VERY well.

It was good. My only quibble was the bad guys holding same powers as the good guy. Seems to be the default plot for most super hero movies these days.

Probably a stupid question but I have a five year old that is REALLY getting into super heroes and has been hounding me about "the new Superman movie".

How mature is the content?

The violence was mostly cartoonish. They were toppling buildings and throwing locomotives and ships around.

Where the violence was intense [Spoiler Alert]

Supes wrings a bad guy's neck. There is some other killing as well.

[/End spoilers]

Finally there's a lot of talking, in flashbacks and elsewhere, that would be boring to smaller children.

Saw this tonight. I thought it was on par with TDKR, meaning pretty good just not quite as good as TDK was.

On a side note, the actor that plays teenage Clark Kent came to Edwards Greenway in Houston and visited all of the crowds tonight. Kind of cool.

Really enjoyed it. Also, did anyone see it as a Christ allegory? Besides everything else Superman says he's 33, which is the common answer for how old Jesus was when he was crucified

As soon as he said he was 33 I thought, "oh ****, people are going to think he's Jesus"

Bullet point thoughts:
-Backstory was rushed, but overall pretty good.

-Action was pretty ****ing amazing. On a different level than "transformers" for those who made those comments.

-Special effects were great.

-Soundtrack was great.

-Shannon was a little dry until the end when he became a little unhinged, he was almost robotic throughout most of the movie though. Actually thought the female was a better villain at times.

Liked it better than Star Trek Into Darkness, better climax and ending imo. I think the reason this movie struggles is because they had to do an origin story, but also branch out from the normal lex luther garbage. This took time from a proper origin story, made things a little rushed, and made you feel little disconnected from superman and the other characters. This movie would not have survived into a sequel if they rehashed the same lex luther formula. Choosing Zod took away from a Batman Begins like origin story, but was exciting enough to keep fans interested for a sequel.

I give it a B+. I would go see it in theaters purely for the soundtrack and action. I think the story is decent, and I am definitely excited to see where they go in the next movie with more time for character development. I pray to god they figure out another interesting villain for him in another movie.

Everyone entitled to their own opinion of course but imho not even in the same ballpark as Nolans Batmans. I've never been close to bored during that trilogy. .Man of Steel I found myself looking at my watch every few mins. It was loud, obnoxious, and had me wondering when it'll be over. I liked Clavil as Supes more than Routhe but Routhes movie was slightly better imho (and I didn't enjoy that one much either ).

I loved it. The action was done very well, and I loved the actors and the soundtrack. My one minor gripe would be that there wasn't quite enough setup for Clark/Superman. It goes straight from Krypton to Clark rescuing people on the oil rig, and I think I would've preferred a more linear storyline for him growing up and understanding and controlling his powers, similar to the original Superman movie.

Other than that, fantastic. I'd put it on par, or maybe even a little higher than Batman Begins, and just a notch below TDK. Definitely better than all the Marvel movies.

I must be in the minority, but I really didn't care for the last 45 minutes. It's one of the few times I've been bored during action sequences. That's why I relate to Transformers. Seeing Superman and Zod ram into each other was cool for a few minutes, but it just kept going on and on and on. I felt it became very monotonous.

Enjoyed it and I am a Big Batfan. I agree with the Jesus reference. When he is in the church, Jesus is just over his shoulder. The minister discusses faith and sacrifice. His age, and the big one, when Superman departs the space capsule, prior to flying to earth, he poses as if hanging on a cross. IMHO

Just saw it in IMAX 3D and really enjoyed it. Probably my favorite movie of the year so far.

Seeing it in IMAX was great, but not sure 3D added too much, although I don't think it was distracting like some conversions can be.

Christ allegory is part of the package with Superman. That said, it was relatively subtle in this film compared to Superman and Superman Returns.

And for those that ask why they had to be pretty blatant with it (image of Christ in the church, laying out like he's on the cross as he leaves the ship in orbit), I think the answer to that is that they have to spell it out for international audiences. Americans are dumb and all, but the USA moviegoer is WAAAAAY more sophisticated than the global average (in my experience). I also think that's why the action scenes were so drawn out, as this again translates to better foreign box office.

Quick box office report:

- Counting Thursday night pre-screenings (screenings before midnight), MoS earned $56 million on opening day, giving it the second-highest opening day in history for a non-sequel (The Hunger Games had a $67M opening day).

- Based on this number, projections now put it an expectation-exceeding $139M-$148M opening weekend, which would be between #8 and #10 all-time, for any movie.

- This all but assures MoS 2 will now officially be put on the fast-track for a summer 2015 release. The greenlight could come as early as Monday, though I'd be willing to bet WB will hold the official announcement until Comic-Con, a little over a month from now. Now that the movie is the success they were hoping for (and more), we might even get a hint of their long-term plans then as well. Justice League announcement for 2017, perhaps? Stand-alone movies for Wonder Woman and The Flash?

Would be interesting to see a Justice League series in the vein of The Avengers.

I'll be at comic con this year. I'm not sure if I will be in a DC panel or not as I usually try to hit Marvel, but maybe I'll hear something.

Also, finally seeing the movie for myself here in about four hours or so. Though, if anyone cares, I probably won't be able to give my impressions until late tonight or, most likely, in the morning. Got a friend's BBQ after the movie, which will likely turn into a late night...

Just saw it in IMAX 3D. Thought it was awesome. Maybe not as good as Dark Night, but the reality is that Batman is just a more compelling character than Superman. I thought it was really well done though.

Considering this was an Alien from space movie (essentially) I thought it was really well done. My favorite of all the Superman movies.

Oh and yes they did lay the allegory on thick and heavy, but it wasn't distracting durring the film

Caught it in 2D last night. Shout out to the mom who brought her two year old and four year old to an 11:15 screening, though I suppose it was my fault for not planning ahead and going to the Alamo Drafthouse.

As for the movie, the whole look was annoying. Felt like I was watching a film through an Instagram filter. There are other colors besides grays, blues, and oranges, people.

The over-reliance on CGI is getting ridiculous. The third act felt like a cartoon, and there was no real sense of danger for any of the characters.

The flashbacks were well done, though George Kent's death was comical from a motivation standpoint. (Goes to save the dog, really? Then nobly tells Clark to stay put, and Clark passively obeys?)

The Zod "Either you die... or I do." line was awful, as previously mentioned.

It makes humans (US soldiers in particular) look like total idiots. "Bullets have no effect on these guys!" "Hey, let's keep firing bullets at 'em!" If you're going for gritty realism, that sort of eye-rolling stupidity can't happen.

Decent summer blockbuster, I guess, but nothing that I have any interest in seeing again.

I agree. It's decent for a summer popcorn flick, but it was trying to be Batman. All three Batman movies are far superior to MoS.

Definitely my favorite superman to date. I can only think of 1 eye roll moment and that was in the last 5 mins. That's a much better ratio than the 15-20 from other supermans

Agree with this. Superman is hard to do well onscreen, because he's Superman. I enjoyed the cartoon serials from the 1940s. I've got a VHS tape of them somewhere. But this is the best Superman movie so far, IMO.

Best Superman ever.

I agree that Batman is a more compelling character, and this movie did seem to follow the same formula as Batman Begins. My opinion is that it largely succeeded, but ultimately it will be considered to have fallen just short of that achievement. This is not to knock MOS, it is just the inherent difference between the characters. When I left the theater a few minutes ago, I knew I'd just seen a great summer movie but I also did not have quite the same level of excitement that I did after first seeing BB. Perhaps because there was no corresponding scene in MOS that set up the next film as when Gordon shows Batman the joker card.

Still, I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. The score was very good but the movie score listener in me still really loves the John Williams music.

Hoping for a bit more character development in the sequel, although this one was good with the Jonathan Kent role.

I really wanted to like this movie. Stayed blind to reviews. But I just didn't. Acting- great. Visuals- good. Script- bad. Story just didn't interest me. And I'm a big Superman guy. No expectations in terms of tone or what I want from a Superman story. And I was all for a darker take on the character. Just too much focus on the other world I guess that didn't work for me.

Don't understand the dissatisfaction that I see sprinkled in here. Movie was amazing. One of the only times I found myself wanting to watch a movie again as soon as it was over.

As for the Christ allegory, did no one else notice the obvious allusion in the church scene? When Clark/Kal-El is talking with the priest, the camera lines up so he is in the foreground whilst a stained-glass portrait of Jesus is in the background.

I really enjoyed this movie, but thought some of the fight scenes resembled a live action version of Dragonball Z.
