How long do you want to ignore this user?
My thoughts on the film

***SPOILERS*****

I felt they did a great job with the childhood flashbacks. Definitely helped add some layering to the story line. To me it felt a lot like Batman Begins. Did a great job introducing us. I also felt the end and him killing General Zod was great. The action scenes were fantastic and I am glad we didn't have to sit through the typical Lex Luther story. Overall I give it a B.

I really enjoyed it but I felt a little disconnected from it in the beginning, especially as I had time to think about it. I loved the scenes from his childhood and the action sequences were well done but for whatever reason I didn't have an emotional connection to the some of the characters for a good deal of the movie (mostly Lois) and felt a little detached from the movie for a bit. I thought it was better than IM3 and nearly on par with star trek (and I enjoyed both) and would probably like it even better the second time when I didn't have to pay as much attention to the background info. I would say it was probably a high B low A for me.

Haven't seen it yet, but don't understand why people are hating on a more serious Superman. It's supposed to be an origin type story. I can see how Superman could be pretty serious until he settles more into his role as a hero. That makes sense to me anyway.

Barring the Silver Age where Superman has ridiculous power like super ventriloquism and the ability to spin around **** to fix them, Superman has always been a serious character. The only reason people associate the character with campy bull**** is because of the Donner movies that had a bunch of stupid slapstick humor.

The modern Superman is arguably as serious as Batman, it's just that he uses hope and inspiration to deal with crime and villains rather than fear and intimidation.

The modern Clark Kent is also not a bumbling, clumsy, dense idiot. He's a guy who fights corruption in government and business through his, often scathing, writing. He's far more self-assured as Clark now and doesn't back down anymore.

The modern Superman is much more similar to the original (Golden Age) Superman in the 30s and 40s, which is why he's a lot more serious now.

Probably a stupid question but I have a five year old that is REALLY getting into super heroes and has been hounding me about "the new Superman movie".

How mature is the content?

I would say that people (not critics) reviews that I have been reading are overall pretty positive. If it is negative I would say that there is a 70% or more chance that their complaint is because of their association with the older films. They feel that there was no humor or charm, and cutesy Louis and Clark stuff.

Also looks like texags is shooting 100% if you count B or better .

No idea how mature it is but the music definitely is dark and a little saddening ha.

Coming from a non-comic readers prospective I thought Krypton was pretty cool, I didn't know anything about his home world except it was destroyed. Enjoyed the vision, imagery, and history of it.

Visuals were pretty excellent throughout. I enjoyed the story and how they made you try to understand what he was going through trying to fit in while knowing he was so different.

Some of the Costner scenes were a little over the top, so I guess I have the same little nits Gradin had. Not a fan of his death scene.

So overall enjoyed it, not my favorite comic book movie but it was good. Only thing I can guess with the reviewers (And I haven't read any yet, just been watching the tomato meter score) is that they are comparing it to Nolan's trilogy and holding it to that standard.

I've always been a Batman guy so I went in knowing I wouldn't like it as much as the Nolan trilogy (and possibly burton's two) but thinking I would like it more than the marvel movies BC I'm a big Zach Snyder fan, loved Watchmen. I enjoyed it, but was still let down. I felt Batman Begins was near perfect in how they handled the origin story, you had Bruce as a kid, young adult dealing with the murderer on parole, self exile, training, the league of shadows, returning to Gotham, him living not only two lives but two personalities, making of the suit, struggling with crime fighting, succeeding at crime fighting, battling the boss. MoS seemed to cover maybe half of that. I would have liked to see him in metropolis more, fighting and saving as superman that didn't involve zod. Idk how to fully explain it. They just didn't give me enough. Still liked it, recommend seeing it, especially in theaters.

Looking at the IMDB user reviews is a very positive sign. I think the critics are just loving to hate on Snyder...

Saw it last night. Didn't care for it. Never felt much of a connection to any of the characters. Plot didn't do much for me.

Another thing I didn't like is the special effects. Going from a regular person to a digital stand-in version was jarring on a few points.

Will give it another shot if the kids want to see it, but I don't plan to see it in 3D. Didn't add anything that I could see.

i dont think i would really say its inappropriate for a 5 year old (some language) but i dont think its a film a 5 year old would really enjoy and definitely wouldnt understand.

what's wrong with Pa Kent's scene? i really got the sense that Pa Kent was grooming clark, knowing he would be great one day. that is what i liked so much about the flashbacks, Pa Kent knew Clark was going to be "superman" but wanted to teach his son how to handle the responsibility that comes with being a superhero. for me, the scene showed that Clark will sometimes have to make difficult decisions between something he loves (Pa Kent) and protecting the universe.

I'm with you there, 3D was basically useless. I'm seeing it with the wife Sunday night in 2D (And not on the second row of an IMAX theater!)

Saw it last night and really enjoyed the movie.

This one is a MAJOR step-up from the Brandon Routh movie. Cavill does a great job as Superman, and I am looking forward to more intereaction with him, Amy Adams, and Laurence Fishburne at the Daily Planet.

I will agree with the previous suggestions about 3D. Saw it in regular 3D (not Imax or XD), and did not like the stuttering/shaky feel to it. You can tell it was post-converted and was not a great job - similar to what I felt about Clash of the Titans.

Did anyone else spot the LexCorp tankers in the fight in Smallville? Nice nod to future villain possibilities, without involving Luthor right up front.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
(I’ll keep this spoiler free unless noted) Well… I think I’m falling in line with the general consensus. It was good but definitely not great. I walked out of the theatre with an overall disappointed feeling, probably because I was so hopeful going into it.

The Good: For the most part, I enjoyed the cast. The quiet confidence that Cavill portrayed was fantastic in several scenes. (Minor Spoiler)- The scene where Clark is in the interview room with Lois… Loved the “Lets just put all of our cards on the table Captain” line. Probably the funniest moment/scene of the movie for me.
The action scenes were great and fun to watch. I can see where people get frustrated with them being repetitive/too long. Only gripes on the action... Would like to have seen Superman use some of the debris around him to fend of the other Kryptonians to add a little variety in the action/fighting. We see a whole bunch of super-speed flying into each other. They probably also knocked down a few too many skyscrapers. The big final fight would have killed thousands of civilians, which is something old Superman would have tried to avoid at all costs.

The Bad: I can’t believe no one has commented on some of the terrible dialogue. I don’t remember the exact quote, but at one point during a big fight with Supes, Zod says “This only ends one way Kal-El! Either you die… or I do!” I just had to contain my laughter. I also thought a lot of the dialogue between Adams and Cavill was pretty bad multiple times.

I’d give it a solid 7/10

My biggest complaints:

1. didn't really care for the way the origins were told through flashbacks. There was a disconnect for me with the movie in the beginning when one second he's on Krypton and the next, it's 30 years later on a boat. I just didn't feel the character of Superman was very developed. I don't think any of the characters were very developed, so by the end of the movie, I really didn't care about the fate of any of the characters. I didn't find myself rooting for Superman or against Zod.

2. I prefer a more serious Superman, and when I read about the critics complaining about the movie being to serious, I think a better way to say it is a lack of emotion. No one seems happy or sad or angry. The whole movie just seemed very neutral. Even with all the great action in the movie, I never really felt I was being taken on a ride the way I was with the Batman movies.

3. The last 45 minutes the movie went to far into Transformers territory. You could replace Superman and Zod with Optimus Prime and Megatron and have the same effect. 45 minutes of two ultra powerful beings flying into each and leaving a wall of destruction. It was entertaining, but it was the same been there done that type of action.

The biggest thing for me is that while I did enjoy it, I saw the potential in this to be great, and because it wasn't, it left me feeling a little empty. Its going to be forever linked to Batman because of Nolan producing and a possible lead in to a justice league movie, and maybe that's not fair to MOS. It's just not at the same level as the Batman movies.

Also, I don't see how this Superman and Nolan's Batman can co-exist together in a movie together. Superman is just so ultra powerful in this movie that it would just seem kind of silly to have Batman trying to keep up. Throw in Green Lantern, Flash, and Wonder Woman and I'm not really seeing how Batman even fits. Maybe someone with more knowledge on the justice league can shed some light on that.

Batman doesn't usually get directly involved in fights with big JLA villains. He's the guy in the background preparing and planning for everything. He also uses Waybe Enterprises to supply the JLA with most of their equipment (along with Oliver Queen's company).

He works out weaknesses, does detective work, etc. Batman also has his vehicles that have missles and guns on them for these types of battles. There have even been occassions where he used power armor.

Batman fits in the JLA, but if they are fighting someone like Darkseid or Doomsday then he's obviously smart enough to stay the hell away.

Seeing it in IMAX 3D tonight. After reading all the comments about the 3D, I guess i'll take a bunch of ibuprofen beforehand...

That's a shame, I was really excited about this after seeing Star Trek Into Darkness last week in IMAX 3D which was AWESOME!!

Is the 3D bad enough to the point of it being distracting, or does it just not add much to the movie?

I'm going to see it in about 2 hours. I don't even watch movies in 3D anymore. They're usually horribly bad (viewing wise) when put into 3D.

Noticed that RT has it at 59% right now, the high-point for "Rotten".

I don't think it really adds to the movie. In my limited experience with 3D (including Man of Steel) you get used to it about 20 minutes in and it isn't much of a distraction.

Just saw it in 2d and I thought it was great. I had high expectations going into this film and it did meet those, barely. I have a couple minor complaints before Ill go further.

*****spoiler*****

-I didn't like the dad scene either, I'm sorry but I wouldn't sacrifice myself for my dog especially if I have a family to support.
-there were a couple of lines out of place especially with Zod after the singularity(either you die or I die), he needed to be in a inconsolable rage which you don't see until his laser vision scene.

This being said I liked everything else.
-Lois was a solid character and was a relentless reporter like she should be. In the grittier DC universe the love interests needs to have stronger women(think Rachel/Selina from batman)
-The fight scenes were excellent and on such an epic scale, I'd say even more so than the Avengers. I think my favorite scene was his fight with the two soldiers, just watching the fight among the kryptonians you get a sense of the speed and power in which they operate. This is revealed by Kal's learning curve which was portrayed in excellent fashion.
-while I agree some sequences are reminiscent of transformers, but I think it stops there. If the fight with Zod is shorter it would seem like Iron man 2(20 second boss battle anyone). So i find that sequence was necessary.
-lastly, I liked the flashbacks as you basically had to condense the hardships of "Smallville" to a couple key events.

*****End Spoiler*****
I think that that this might be the best comic movie since the batmans and once people realize this isn't the cutesy superman flying around in red tighties like captain underpants they will see that this was a very well conducted story. That and when superman is tugged around in a plot driven story you know it's a strong story.

Best superman by far and I cannot wait to see it again.

I mean you can tell he is getting his butt kicked at the beginning and his improvisation improves as he keeps fighting. Remember they aren't used to the superpowers on the planet either(having to adjust to our sun). So they have to adapt too...

Really enjoyed the movie the only negative thing.

The whole talking with the priest about sacrificing himself for man kind while having a picture of jesus in the background while superman was talking felt weird. I mean was it really necessary to put jesus in the back ground?

i'm way in the minority but i thought the movie was a big bag of meh.

i'm fine with the origin type stuff, and the flashback stuff was the best part of this film. i have to agree with the poster above that said it was too much like transformers type graphics/photography (which I just dont care for).

maybe i should turn my man card in but there was far too much action and not enough of other things. i think a lot of people are gona say they like this movie because they think they are supposed to say they like this movie, as if there is something wrong with them if they don't.

i left disappointed.

Just got back from seeing it, and 30+ minutes of preview trailers after about 5+ mins of TV commercials and paying $7.75 for a 12:30 "matinee" price. For 2D even.

It was a decent movie. Good action. Good visuals. The casting for Superman was good. Nothing overly special, since it's yet another rehash of a comic book character.

I'll watch it again on Netflix or HBO, but wouldn't pay for it again.

I can understand the RT rating in the 50s.
