Certain public screenings start tonight, continuing over the next few days, and it looks like a few posters here may be attending some of these screenings. So I wanted to go ahead and get a thread started specially for thoughts, impressions, discussion, etc. on the film itself (as opposed to the pre-release thread we've got going now).

As for actual plot discussion, how about this... from now 'til next Thursday (the 13th), try and use SPOILER tags/warnings when discussing plot specifics. Then, come next Thursday, all discussion is fair game, with no need for tags or warnings. Until then, it'd be nice for those of us who aren't seeing it 'till opening weekend to be able to read your general impressions. Also, I'll start posting notable critic reviews here as well, once the critic embargo is lifted on Monday.

Buzz so far is through the roof, and word is that this one delivers in every way possible. May even be one of the best movies of the year. On the homestretch now. Can't wait.

First. Got my Imax ticket for Friday the 14th. Counting down the days.

Nice. So jealous of those of you able to see it 70mm IMAX 2D. We don't have that option here, so I got a group together for a big 2D showing at The ArcLight. Next best thing. Seeing it Saturday, June 15.

Dang, getting there about 2 hours and 40 minutes was not enough to get in the screening. Missed it by 20-30 people. They gave us passes to try to see it next Tuesday in 3d which is nice. We are planning to get one of us there very early, like 5 hours early, to save seats.

That sucks. Still getting to see it early is a nice consolation, though.

Anyone else have a shot at seeing it this week? Lot of public screenings tonight, it looks like.

Just missed out on getting early screening tickets up in Plano. We've waited 2 years...we can wait a few more days...right? maybe?

Agreed, but I was actually encouraged by the Star Trek Into Darkness thread a couple weeks back. For the first two or three days of the movie's release, almost everyone used spoiler tags to discuss any plot-related points. Was hoping the same thing could happen here, if only from now until the night it hits theaters.

Is there a list somewhere that has all theaters showing this in 70mm IMAX 2D?

YouBet - I did a search, but couldn't find a comprehensive list. Likely just going to have to check whatever theaters you're thinking about seeing in.

I'm going to sound insistent but, give Imax 3D a chance. I saw the hobbit in IMAX 3D and it was pretty spectacular.

If you're picking between regular 2D and Imax 3D, I say Imax, no question.

That reminds me, as an FYI to anyone who hasn't yet bought tickets, I've seen quite a few complaints from those who have seen the movie about how bad the 3D is. MoS was post-converted, and the three-minute trailer I saw in 70mm IMAX 3D with Into Darkness a couple weeks back did, indeed, look terrible in 3D. It was extremely stuttery. Regardless, for a "handheld," quick-cutting, action-heavy movie, I'd definitely avoid 3D for this one. That trailer-viewing alone convinced the group I was with to see the movie itself in 2D.

sharkenleo - sorry, I must have been typing as you posted. I've actually been coming around on IMAX 3D (both Prometheus and Iron Man 3 looked great in the format), but I really have seen quite a few complaints already about how bad the MoS 3D is. The way Snyder shot it just isn't conducive to the format. And that trailer I saw looked horrible in 70mm IMAX 3D - enough so that everyone in the group I was with, after the movie, commented on how bad it was, while praising the 3D in IM3 itself. Ultimately, I'm sure it won't bother most people, but I just wanted to put that out there.

It's officially release-week. Is anyone here seeing it before Thursday? Thought I saw quite a few posters in the other thread who said they were attending early screenings...

I have tickets to a screening on tuesday here in saytown- sadly the spurs are playing that night so won't be going

A couple random reviews will likely leak tonight, but based on Twitter, the more prominent ones / ones I care about are definitely honoring the embargo.

Cannot freakin' wait. I'll be seeing it early in relation to your time zone. Just picked up my passports with fresh visas for the trip to Dubai. Should be seeing it about the time the midnight showings are letting out in TX.

Just found this review. I haven't read it so I have no idea how spoiler filled it is, if at all. Just wanted to share.

Saw The Wrap tweet a link to that - on their own site - but then immediately take it down. Looks like Yahoo! somehow held onto it. Either way, it mentions a couple scenes and plot-points, but nothing really spoiler-worthy. Overall, they liked it, didn't love it. Reviews from The Wrap, Hollywood Reporter, Variety, etc. are almost never glowing - usually more subdued and "professional." Really looking forward to a lot of the more prominent blogger reactions tonight, most of which have been hinted at as being head-over-heels for the movie.

And FYI, for those interested, Hans Zimmer's official score/soundtrack will also officially be released tonight, about an hour after the reviews hit. Reviews at 10 PM Central. Soundtrack at 11 PM Central. I've been listening to an advanced (i.e. illegal) copy and it's amazing. One of the best in years.

This score is amazing. Only halfway through, but already I can say it's one of Hans Zimmer's best.

It's very big-sounding. Pounding drums one second, tender piano the next. Makes for a great musical "landscape". (Not sure what you call that)

Stoked they got Zimmer to do the score. He's right up there with John Williams as one of the greatest composers of our time.

I know, I did a Zimmer station on Pandora, and could not believe how many scores he has written.
