As the season winds down Kent finds himself in a familiar spot.

http://www.pgatour.com/players/r/?/01/07/33/results

He's 180th in money at $222k so he's gonna have to win somewhere around $600K to $700k more in the next few weeks to avoid Q-School.

Kent didn't make it past the 2nd round of Q-School last month so he will be without his PGA card for the first time since 1999.

I'm guessing he'll play in a handful of PGA events next season on sponsor's exemptions and maybe play full-time on the nationwide tour or whatever it's called now.

And none of these guys will ever come close to winning at Hilton Head, Pebble, Colonial (well, maybe), or any major.

If you get out of Q skool, all you're looking for is a paycheck.

Boo Weekley won the Verizon Heritage held at Harbour Town twice.

JB Holmes won the FBR Open twice.

Mike Weir won the Masters.

Paul Azinger won the PGA Championship.

Again, goodfieldnohit thinks he knows a lot about golf but most of the time, he's just talking out of his ass.

2010 finds Kent Jones slugging it out on the Nationwide Tour & 2 top tens in 2 starts means Mr. Jones is kicking butt and taking names.

Unfortunately, a pedestrian $32,829 in total prize money means the Jones household will be cutting corners this year.

Kent with his best finish to date -29th for $34k. 4 events played on the PGA Tour and he's cashed in 3 of them. I guess he's motivated to make the most of his chances.

Kent wound up cashing in 6 of his 9 PGA Tour events for $188,000 including $101,000 for finishing 5th in Reno back in July.

He only made 7 of 15 cuts in the Nationwide Tour for $68,000 including a best finish of 6th.

Onto Q School for our hero. Kent is playing this week at Bayonet Golf Course.

quote:
Starting next Wednesday, Bayonet Golf Course will be one of five sites nationwide hosting PGA Tour Q-School Stage II Qualifying. Unlike the Finals Qualifying Stage, those who do not advance through Stage II are more than likely looking at a 2011 season not on either the PGA Tour or Nationwide Tour, but on the mini-tours.

quote:
The number of qualifying positions that will advance through the four-day, 72-hole event at Bayonet to the Finals Qualifying Stage (Dec. 1-6 in Florida) will be announced after the start of competition.

what are the expenses of a golfer like kent - spending weeks upon weeks on the road. if he earns $188k this year, how much gets spent on hotels/rental cars/airline tickets/etc

I just read start to finish for the first time too. Nice read.

I once had to start on 3 because the Nike Tour was using 1 & 2 to weed out a few players. They started with 15 and played 1. Cut a couple. Went to 2. Played and cut a couple. Back to 1. Until there were 3 left that got to go to Nike Tour Qualifying. Rough life.

Well Kent pulled through to the final stage of Q-school like the champion grinder he is.

quote:
Wax finished the four-day event at 17-under 271 (69-69-66-67). Kent Jones, a PGA Tour regular who finished at No.190 on this year's money list and the third round leader, placed second at 274 (67-65-69-73).

Mini-tour player Andres Gonzales of Washington also advanced, placing third at 275 thanks in part to an opening round 62.

The cut line for players advancing to the Finals (low 19 and ties) came at 7-under 281.

The Q-School Finals will take place Dec. 1-6 at Orange County National Golf Club in Florida.

I don't know but with a name like that I would assume they're at least related.
