Right on cue. His three biggest cashes have come in the past four weeks. 2 tournaments to go and he's just outside the card line.

The dude does nothing for 24 weeks and then goes crazy when fall arrives with thoughts of Q School.

Kent, you couldn't make is easy on yourself and hold on to a top 5 finish yesterday could you?

It's easier to win, for the guys towards the bottom, this time of year because most of the top 50 are done until next season

He has cashed in 11 of his last 12 events after starting off the year 4 of 16.

Two events left. We're pulling for you Kent! He probably needs another $250,000 to assure himself a spot inside the top 125.

ANOTHER 16th place. Wow. On fire. Only $67,500 in the bank account though. He maintained his 134th position.

He probably needs a top ten in the last event of the year this weekend to get back into the top 125. I don't know what he needs for conditional status on tour for '08.

He finished his 2nd round today right on the cut line at -3. If you have the time, say a little prayer this afternoon for the hardest working millionaire golfer I know of.

Tied for 63rd for 9k and change. Blah.

So it looks like he'll finish the year at 134th good for a provisional spot on tour next season.

Big news!

Kent is tied for 11th going into the 6th and final round of Qualifying School.

Sweet!

http://www.pgatour.com/qschool/leaderboard/

He's only 4 shots inside of 25th though. THIS, my friends, is pressure.

Check in on our Mr. Jones this morning as he tries to keep that card.

Kent finished in 11th place - he keeps his PGA Tour card for another year. Nails.

Not everybody was so lucky. There were some spectacular chokes in the last round by more than one golfer.

Here's a few quote from our intrepid golfer:

"It is a long, difficult and hard week," Jones said of the Q-School.

"The first time you are there, you are excited," Jones said. "It is exciting because you have a chance to get on the tour. After you have played a few years, you are not that excited about it. But once you are there, you just try and play as good as you can so you can get through."

"I played good," Jones said. "I played solid all week. I put myself in good position in each round."

"I want to do a better job of preparing for this season," Jones said. "I would really like to get off to a good start this year. I want to put myself in a position to win, and hopefully win a tournament."

Lookout PGA Tour.

Whats the point of this thread?

The only thing i am getting out of it is that you are either made to be a golfer or you are not.

Or, if you are not good at something, no amount of trying is going to fix that?

I personally know Kent and he is one of the nicest guys on the tour. His golf coach is a guy out of Lubbock who was formerly a golf coach in Hobbs, NM. I went to the same golf coach for almost 6 years before I went to school. Kent works extremely hard on his golf game and he has been faced with some personal hardships lately and to see him still trying week in and week out is motivating.

Rough start to the year for Kent but Thursday was pretty exciting.

quote:
Kent Jones surprise first-round leader in AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am

In an event loaded with famous names, the first-round leader in the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am wound up being the almost-anonymous Kent Jones.

Having never finished in the top five in 270 PGA Tour starts, Jones carded a bogey-free round of 6-under-par 66 Thursday at Pebble Beach Golf Links. The 41-year-old from New Mexico enters Friday's play with a one-stroke lead over the almost equally unknown John Mallinger, Roland Thatcher and Brad Adamonis.

Jones is atop the leaderboard at a PGA Tour event after 18 holes for just the second time. His only other first-round lead came in the 2002 Buick Open over K.J. Choi and Mark Brooks and went on to finish tied for 14th.

"I think I'm just satisfied that I played well and putted well," Jones told reporters. "I don't think, especially when everyone is playing different golf courses, being in the lead isn't very important, especially I think if someone shoots say 5 under or 6 under at Spyglass.

"I think that's a tougher golf course, so you could almost say they're really leading, but it's nice to be playing well, obviously."

Jones earned his position on the leaderboard thanks to a fast start. Starting his round on No. 10, he opened with back-to-back birdies and added birdies at Nos. 15 and 17 on make the turn at 4-under 32.

After some productive practice rounds, Jones said he felt like he might be on the verge of having a good tournament. Sinking a 20-foot birdie putt on his first hole didn't hurt, either.

"I felt like in the practice rounds I was hitting the ball okay and I felt like my putting was feeling better," Jones said. "So I felt like I had a chance to maybe play well this week, but I really didn't expect to putt as good as I did today, so that's been maybe a little bit of a surprise."

He took that great start and turned it into a 48th place finish good for $15,000. Oh well.

Serious question. Did he get hurt or something? Only 1 event on the PGA Tour since February and now I see he played a Nationwide event over the weekend.

I read the whole first page before I realized how old the thread is.

Great story.

I'm sure golf is the love of his life, but I'm thinking he could make more money if he had a different career he loved...you know what I'm saying.

Maybe he has made a lot more since '95..I haven't read Pgs. 2&3

Notes: Jones has had some degree of wrist problems - this was not mentioned, but might be the reason.

And he finally played 4 rounds and got 45th over the weekend with bookend 66s.
