It took me four tries. I may think about a way to tweak my opening guess going forward.

Currently using 9 * 8 / 6 = 12.

5 numbers right off the bat and I know if I'm dealing with multiplication and/or division.

For openings, I think I had two of the worst ones on this thread as far as matching the number of characters for the 17,723 possibilities.

Here is a simple command-line analysis of the number of characters matching for the openings I've seen.
It doesn't correct for repeat characters and doesn't adjust for a match in the right position (see my post on page 5 to optimize positioning).

Substitute (p for +, m for -, t for *, d for /, e for =) to not have to deal with special characters.

3. I was actually thinking about the answer on my second guess, but went another way. I cant be too upset about this one.

Lucked out big time hitting the commutative version (it actually spins around and displays the corrected answer) which was a 2 in 47 chance to get my tenth 2.

I shouldn't complain about odds being against me for a while.

My 2nd guess was on the right track, but I guessed the second slot wrong on 2nd and 3rd guesses.

Missed a 1 in 3 yesterday to hit a 4.
Hit a 1 in 3 today for a 3.

Looking back at other 2nd guess options, following the more common operator position placement seems to improve the likelihood of narrowing down the remaining possibilities more than a guess that maximizes character matches, but further evaluation is needed.

I played like dog**** tonight. 4.

I'm actually starting to find it a little boring. I'm at 100% correct and typically get it figured out on my 3rd guess. Wordle is definitely more of a challenge for me!

I missed that repeat three in the 4th spot on my second guess. I'm not spending enough time checking my work before hitting enter. I was unlikely to get it in two anyway, but it would have given me better odds on that third try.
