I would say it gets better, but it doesn't.

If you just want to solve it and are not trying to get the lowest average number of guesses, start out with a nerdle pair for your 1st 2 guesses such as:
2*3+4=10
96/8-5=7
That will eliminate unused numbers and ops and tell you if the = is in the 5th, 6th, or 7th position.
You'll still have to find repeated numbers and ops, and get the right order, but it will be a lot easier.
