That graphic is awesome. Thanks for sharing. But to put it in perspective, if it took us 73 years to develop the technology and mount an expedition to find the Titanic, the fact that we're pretty close within 30 days is impressive. Especially considering there were other ships near the Titanic. Nobody has any idea where this plane was or why.

I bet this is an interesting enough science project that we have at least recovered the black boxes and got some photos of the wreckage within 5 years.

It is impressive how they were able to narrow the range. That said, this was a 200 foot long, 60 foot tall, 250 ton plane that likely smashed into a bunch of little bitty pieces that are scattered about. The Titanic was a nearly 1000 foot long, 200 ft tall hunk of iron that weighed 52,000 tons and was essentially intact (broken in two, but both pieces still there together) - and nearly 1/3 the way closer to the surface.

The black boxes aren't either now and haven't been for at least a week. And Titanic sent out distress signals with coordinates.

I'm sure we'll have it before then, like you said, we already have the technology. We're not waiting to develop technology like for the titanic.

I heard the unmanned mapping sub can cover 15 sq miles a day. they said the full search area was millions of square miles. it will probably be awhile.

I think that has to be a small subset of the full search area. where they think it will most likely be.
