Why can't they tell us what was said before "alright good night"? Clearly that is the end of a conversation. This annoys me watching reporters over analyze this phrase for days.

There was probably little or nothing of consequence before the copilot said that phrase. They were leaving Malaysian airspace and about to enter Vietnamese airspace as far as I understand it, and the Malaysian controller should have issued instructions to contact Vietnam ATC on 1XX.XX frequency, and that is typically followed up with a "good night" type response.

The fact that they went dark and turned immediately after leaving Malaysian airspace seems to indicate it was a deliberate and planned maneuver instead of the unlikely coincidence of a dire emergency right after that call...

Good point to ask the question. Alright goodnight doesn't mean jack. As someone who has flown commercial for 30 years including the 777, I've heard this phrase and many other variations. In the middle of the night you might hear anything that doesn't include curse words. As long as the point is made, it's ops normal. Horrible, horrible reporting on this subject.

Quite the opposite... I take it as an innocuous reply to a standard instruction to contact the next controller along the planned flight path. It is done multiple times on every flight... I talk to 6 or 7 different control facilities when I fly between Wichita and the DFW area, and at the end of one controller's airspace they'll say "Mooney XXXXX contact Fort Worth Center on 132.35, Good Day." I reply Fort Worth on 132.35, Mooney XXXX Good Day." That simple. Very routine. In the middle of the night with very little radio traffic you'll hear non-standard phrases like "all-right good night" or similar. In the old days you could also hear trivia contests over the air to keep everyone alert. Or sports discussions.

So the story today is the pilot deleted files from his home flight simulator.

if he's a real planner he secure-deleted the real practice files and then regular-deleted a few fake ones.

The only real countermeasure is to delete the files and then set the whole thing on fire (a very hot fire). I have never done this.

Has anybody thought to check the tower chief's logs for both Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Beijing Capital International Airport?

We all know the Kuala Lumpur log lists a flight leaving at 12:48 am, but the Beijing log lists no flight arriving at 6:30 am. (If nothing else, these should be submitted as exhibits Alpha and Bravo.)

Maybe talk to Airmen Cecil O'Malley and Anthony Rodriguez, see what they might testify to?

I'm afraid that when the conclusion to this saga finally arrives, most people will be unable to handle the truth.

BTW, I have been lurking on this thread for a long time now. I really appreciate the input from the pilots on this thread and those of you that post links to news stories from sites that I would have never visited had I not seen them here.
