They switched libero and DS in the 3rd. No idea if that really was the difference but defense decided to actually play defense and saw a ton of hussle after that.

Setting was okay. Some good stuff but a few head scratchers with dumps and some off target sets that could have made a difference.

Meuth was solid at the end of the game. No idea why she is blocked and dug up so easily at times which takes her mentally out of the match. Power hitter but maybe taking the easy angles that are read easily by opposing defense?

Lednicky was unstoppable. Imagine a team with 4 lednickys like some of these top teams have.

Blocking felt non-existent at times but I could wrong. Haven't looked at the stats.

Serve receive was horrible to start the game but settled down and was just ok.

I loved the holler house. I remember when A&M upset OU in one of the last matches hosted there. Got to meet Stacy Sykora. So sad when they tore it down

Lednicky was in tears at the end of the game. Champion's heart she's got.

Where is the fire in the coach? Chewing gum and clapping in a jogging suit… is that the professional look this program needs?
Lednickey is a stud, but this team just lost to an Arkansas team missing their top hitter and their starting middle went out with an injury. Can't beat 2nd stringers? How much longer do Aggie fans have to put up with a coach w no HC experience? It definitely shows. The time to hire is now.

Got any candidates in mind? I don't give a damn about how the coach appears / dresses, as long as it's not in orange; I like to win and that ain't happening.

It's going to be hard to get a qualified experienced P5 head volleyball coach to A&M. Byrd was like the 5th in line the last time. We don't have a huge support system for volleyball. Thinking we have to start small. Maybe we can pull the UH head coach, who has turned them into a top 25 team. Or even the Rice coach.

I seriously doubt a big name will give us a serious look, issues seem to start at the top down

Bingo! The Rice coach played at aTm. She would be great! She has a tournament team every year.

With all this coach talk, anyone have an opinion on why no female coach has ever won a NCAA D1 vball championship? I find it hard to believe given there seems to be a lot of really good coaches out there regardless of gender. Where can we find an up and coming male coach? j/k.

Was watching random volleyball games the other night and had Auburn vs Missouri on. Realized that the Corbelli siblings (both assistants) were coaching against each other.

Don't know a lot about the college vball coaching landscape, but who could we get? Who is on our short-list?

We cannot go after someone like Bird again, i.e. has ZERO head coaching experience, and no track record of actually coaching (she was mostly a recruiter at Kansas from what I have heard).

The head coach at Rice is an Aggie, and has done more with less for a lot of years. However, I think she just received an extension.

Go and get someone that wants to be at A&M, good ties with Texas vball clubs, and has a proven track record. Or we could just buyout that Rice coach and be done.

The Rice coach has done well there for a long time and she would be an improvement on the bird, but 2 NCAA tournament wins in 18 years doesn't sound like a coach that is going to come to Aggieland and win a national championship. After so many years and so much equity at Rice, she may not even want to leave. It's not like it's football or basketball and it's a life-altering amount of money she would get.

What we need is a head coach that is already knocking on the door of a national championship (making NCAA tournament runs already) at a place with less support that could get it done with the weight of A&M behind them. But in order to get that coach, Bjorts would have to shell out a significant amount of money. The fact that he's sticking with this disaster for so long doesn't make me thinks he cares enough to do that.

I painfully agree with you. Think you're spot on with the assessment of Bjork. We will see...

Need to essentially make the pitch similar to how we got Jimbo "Whatever you need, we will provide"

Volleyball has traditionally been an elitist sport. The haves are really really good, but there are few of them. Fortunately, that gap is shrinking. I say that to say: I can't imagine any coach that is knocking on the door of a national championship would leave (think: Louisville, who is a relative newcomer to that bunch. There's no way Kelly is leaving).

Also, it seems like the portal has impacted coach's willingness to jump ship. Teams seemed to have way tougher times filling vacancies last year than expected.

I think you're looking at either a very successful mid-major coach (see Volpe at Rice) or a high-level assistant at a powerhouse (like a Nebraska or Texas (which is what LSU did last year and has had good results thus far).

What should be expected is for us to be a Top 15 program. Defies logic that we aren't. The clubs in Dallas and Houston produce some of the best (if not, THE best) talent in the country. And that's without including Austin and SA. Obviously, we could invest more resources, starting with a MUCH more intimate facility, but that's not an excuse for failing to get extraordinary talent from such a talent-rich state.

Ross Bjork is watching our non football programs decline while he's been in office and has shown or done nothing to stop the bleeding. He's aggressively given contract extensions (like to Bird) after one good season and digs further into a hole. Right now we're a laughing stick for how much money we have tied to a football coach who's fighting to keep us above .500 and Bjork won't fire anyone else that requires a buyout. He's watching soccer struggle, he saw softball struggle, now he's just gonna wait out Bird's contract since she got an extension after a season with Corbelli's recruits… it's failed leadership at the top

I may have a memory thing here but I believe someone told me the Rice coach has a well established life right there in West U. I believe husband is a doctor in the med center, kids in school there, etc. - a very established life and a spouse with a career that makes Rice a great choice specifically for her. So, that may not be as easy as a former student and player that wants nothing more than to move to a bigger program in the SEC and at her alma mater.

I could be thinking of someone else, so someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Bingo. She was a terrific player for TAMU
I would say she wouldn't have wanted to be the person who took over for her "fired" coach but she isn't going anywhere I wouldn't think

Not sure what her husband does. But they live in NW Houston. Her daughter is the libero on a very good Bridgeland team.

Bridgelands is far from West U.

It sounds like my memory is way off or perhaps whomever told me that info didn't know what they were talking about. If she lives way out in Bridgleands, she is almost to College Station already.

Or was there something to the story I remembered. Now I'm confused too.

At least, I'm furthering the discussion...(I guess)
