Merc would have to have a heads up, Lewis wouldn't do this to them after all those years with Merc without them knowing...I think

Merc is really milking Abu Dhabi for every last ounce of drama. I assume the goal is try and get as much sympathy for the team and Hamilton before the next season starts given the unknowns with the new car. Rather than rooting for anyone else to win the championship the Merc narrative will be to have neutral fans rooting for Hamilton to reclaim in 2022 what was wrongly taken from him in 2021.

I'm more focused on the midfield, but can't help but admire how well Merc is working the narrative so far.

If it isn't a massive PR campaign like Ag in CO said, and Hamilton doesn't like what the FIA decides and quits, then he really is the whiny, entitled turd he sounds like on the radio. And it will tarnish his legacy. He will be branded a quitter by many.

He is an amazingly talented driver, and arguably the best ever. But this isn't a good look.

Well, if he doesn't participate in the testing sessions in the new cars, I think they would have a heads-up....as good as he is, the beginning of the season could be catastrophic for him if he gets in the car for real for the first time at FP1...

What a loaded morning lmao, I wasn't expecting so much. American driver Jack Crawford moves to Prema for F3 in what hopefully makes him a title contender this year.

Disappointed that Daruvala got that Prema seat and seeing Vips stay with Hitech who completely ruined his 2021 season, but excited to see both Liam Lawson (my pick for 2022) and US driver Logan Sargeant on the same team.

Next week is practice/qualifying for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, the race is on Jan 29th. A month later is the Daytona 500, and then 4-5 weeks after that is the start of F1. There is also some winter olympics downhill skiing, bobsledding, and luge in the middle of all that if you are really jonesing for some racing

Have any of the car reveal dates been announced yet? I feel like a lot of teams are going to try to do it as close to testing as possible to not give other teams advantage of seeing their car.

Another interesting video on how/why driving styles have changed in modern cars.

Zac is coming out guns blazing on this. Talks about his disdain for farm teams being setup in F1, lobbyists and mid-race contact with race director, and other things.

Get some of what he's saying.

Definitely agree that teams shouldn't have direct contact with the race director during the race.

Don't see there being enough interest out there to have 10 completely independent chassis fielded like he wants.

Does this mean the tire allocation increase to accommodate more laps? Or will the teams just take longer adjusting the cars between stints with the same tire allocation?

How did it change when they went from 90 down to 60?

Lol. I don't know. I'm a new fan of the sport and didn't know it used to be 90 minutes. So I guess nothing changed when the shortened the practices.

Reading a couple of articles, the main reasons were cost-cutting and trying to liven up the sessions by forcing cars onto the track together more often.

I guess the FIA liked the 90-minute format better and went back to it.

F1 just banned airforce before the race starts, so no more planes during any national anthem

Just Air Force or any aircraft?

*** edit ***

Found online that it's all air craft. But have seen an explanation for why.
La Fours

Here is one explanation of why.

From this article: https://racingnews365.com/f1-moves-to-ban-select-part-of-the-race-build-up

Citing a desire to reduce carbon emissions as part of F1's drive to become carbon neutral, the ban is being introduced to "support F1's sustainability objectives".

RacingNews365.com understands that, aside from environmental considerations, there were also concerns from within the sport that such aerial displays could be seen as military posturing or as giving countries a platform for demonstrations of their military strength.

Yeah that's the dumbest thing I've heard. Military jets use these at training missions.

Does that mean the army gets a shot at fly overs? /s

In all honesty, the military posturing of Russia and everyone else over Ukraine probably raises some concerns for F1 when it comes to enabling a forum for a show of military.

What about red bull flying their racing planes over Austria? Is the ban specifically limited to military?

Great question. I don't know, but I would imagine that Red Bull would be prevented to keep things fair among all the countries and tracks.

From this report It sounds like it is limited to Military Aircraft.

Quote:

Race promoters for Formula 1 races in 2022 won't have the option of putting on a military aviation display as part of their pre-race build-up.

A firm favourite of many promoters, displays of military aircraft flying overhead have become synonymous with certain Grands Prix.

For instance, Monza frequently has flyovers of the Italian Air Force before the Italian Grand Prix, while the Red Arrows, part of the Royal Air Force, entertain the crowds at Silverstone ahead of the British Grand Prix.

However, in an email sent by F1 to race promoters, seen by RacingNews365.com, displays of military aviation are no longer permitted.

Citing a desire to reduce carbon emissions as part of F1's drive to become carbon neutral, the ban is being introduced to "support F1's sustainability objectives".
Quote:

F1 has left the door open for promoters to continue putting on displays of civilian and commercial aircraft, once certain caveats are met.

For instance, several of the Gulf races do flypasts of jumbo jets belonging to their national airlines these will continue to be permitted provided that the airlines are using sustainable fuels for such purposes. This process had already been undertaken by some airlines, with Gulf Airlines performing a flypast at the 2021 Bahrain Grand Prix of their Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with second-generation biofuel supplied by Neste.

There's also the possibility for Red Bull to continue sending up some of their restored old private aircraft to entertain the crowds before the Austrian Grand Prix, provided the same considerations are taken into account.

Ah, well that settles it. Thanks for posting!

I'm sure COTA can find a privately restored aircraft to fly.
