Granted my movie going dropped off significantly in 2012 when my girls were born, but that's the most I've enjoyed a movie start to finish since The Dark Knight in 2008.

saw it last night and loved it. definitely had a retro vibe.

also, i was a little disappointed with howard the duck at first, but then realized it was perfect for this movie. it doesn't reveal anything and isn't a hook for a new movie. Just doesn't take itself seriously.

Yeah, kinda explains where Howard has been all these years.

I finally saw it last night in Bryan in IMAX 3d, movie was sick! I got some good laughs and thought overall it was one of the best marvel movies so far

Yeah. Smoking weed daily in the van he lived in in Maui while working at Bubba Gump's. It's amazing he got on a WB tv show much less become the most unconventional and suddenly most popular leading man in Hollywood.

So, Guardians is going to crush Winter Soldier. After 17 days, it has made more money than Cap did in 24 days.

I wondered for a moment whether it might end up the highest grossing movie of the year, with The Hobbit not performing well. Then I remembered that Mockingjay arrives in November, but still it is likely looking at finishing in the top 3, with Pratt possibly having two movies in the top 5.

Cap 2 and Hobbit 2 did just about the same domestically ($259M and $258M), so it is possible Guardians could outgross Hobbit 3 if the series continues on a downward trend.

Which would make it #2 behind Mockingjay. Pretty impressive for an unknown Marvel property.

Here's a stat I was thinking about and did a little research on. I think we can go ahead and make it a given that GOTG gets to $300 million.

Granted that Thanos and The Collector have been very briefly on-screen in prior Marvel movies, but only 16 films have ever made it to $300 million without the characters having been on screen before (in close to their present incarnation), being direct sequels to previous work, or, in the case of the Avengers, several works.

GOTG would be just the 7th film in the last decade to make this $ amount under those specifics, joining Avatar, Frozen, Passion of the Christ, Alice in Wonderland, Transformers and Iron Man.

The prior to 2004 entries, if you are curious, are: Titanic, Star Wars, ET, Spider-Man, Finding Nemo, Forrest Gump, Fellowship of the Ring, Pirates of the Caribbean and Independence Day.

Alice in Wonderland is debatable. Still an impressive stat though.

i agree Alice would have an intrinsic audience, but the difference between a freaked out cartoon from xx years ago and a freaked out movie starring Jack Sparrow and Bellatrix Lestrange was enough for me to put it in the category.

I was surprised that Nemo was the only Pixar film to $300m outside of sequels, checked and Up just missed the cut at $293m with The Incredibles at $261m.

They could potentially gross $1B domestically from TWO movies.

That might finally make up for John Carter and The Lone Ranger .
