2018 Texas State 7-on-7 Championships preview

7-on-7 teams representing high school programs across the state of Texas will descend on College Station this week to compete for the Texas State 7-on-7 Championships. The action begins Thursday and goes through Saturday, and it will feature several top recruits from across the state.

Division II and III start things off on Thursday. Pool play begins at 1 p.m. at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station. Brock will be of particular interest to Texas A&M fans with tight end commit Baylor Cupp‍ playing a featured role for the Eagles. Division II and III will begin tournament play Friday morning, and a champion will be crowned in each division by the afternoon.

Division II will feature ranked prospects Jordan Whittington‍ (Texas commit) of Cuero and Midlothian Heritage WR Langston Anderson‍. Other top prospects include Anderson’s Heritage teammates 2019 QB Landon Ledbetter and 2020 WR Jay Wilkinson, and the Melissa trio of 2020 QB Brendon Lewis, 2019 WR/S Kennedy Lewis‍ (TCU commit), and RB Ja'Bray Young.

Gunter 2019 WR/DBs Dylan Jantz‍ and Breidan Clopton headline the Division III group.

Division I will begin pool play on Friday at 1 p.m. at Veterans Park and Athletic Complex. Houston St. Pius X will draw the attention of A&M fans with wide receiver commit Chase Lane‍ a key component in the Panthers high flying attack. Division I will begin tournament play Saturday morning at 8 a.m. and will crown a champion Saturday afternoon.

In addition to Texas A&M commitment Chase Lane, Division I play will also feature a number of uncommitted prospects holding Texas A&M offers.


Division I will also feature several prospects ranked in the TexAgs 2019 and 2020 rankings, as well as some notable 2021 and 2022 prospects.

What a waste of time. Kids should take a summer vacation and quit making their parents drive them all over to these silly meaningless tournaments.
