Today was good. My wife has been here with me most of the day which has been wonderful.

Was able to at least stand up today, and oxygen tanked a little. Still felt good to get up on my feet. Doctors are going to send me home as soon as I can pass the walking test again. I'm guessing that might be Sunday. At this point it's basically just a waiting game until the pressure in my chest goes down enough to let me breathe when walking.

Still on anti biotics but those are basically just preventative at this point. The doctors aren't sure if I had a second case of pneumonia still but are treating for it.

Hope everyone else had a great day as well.

We have been thinking about you and praying for you in the Z household buddy

Thanks Z. Appreciate the prayers.

Talked to my 3 doctors today and they are all in agreement that my infection is gone so that is a definite good report for the day. Now just waiting for my oxygen to stay up when standing and walking. Definite progress today, as I can now sit up and still breathe ok. It's definitely still more effort but it's getting better.

Lol, just checking in for the day.

My dad's been here most of the day keeping me company and pushing me a little bit. Was able to sit up in chair for almost 3 hours this afternoon which was really nice. Held 92% the whole time while sitting upright. At the end of the sitting, my nurse got me up on my feet and I was able to actually stabilize right at 90% O2 while standing, and take ~6 steps to the end of the bed and back. Stayed above 88% the whole time.

Goal for tomorrow: complete walking test above 90% and GO HOME!

Great to hear on your numbers. You are doing great. My dad is retired military, he would have been barking orders at me the whole time.

Great to hear this! I saw that you were prescribed Trazodone to help sleep. That has been a Godsend for my wife, who is a very anxious person who couldn't turn her brain off at night. I think I should warn you, it can come with many mental side effects. My wife has regular check-ins with a psychologist for that reason, and thankfully she's had no issues. But if you continue using it to sleep, keep that in mind. Especially if you're getting into bad mental states because of the struggle you've experienced.

I actually had to come off trazadone already. I took it once in the hospital my first time here and had really crazy hallucinations/dreams. I asked them not to give it to me again. Once I was out, my doctor prescribed it to me and I took it twice at home. I started developing a rash on my shoulders and back, and again was having wild vivid dreams at night. I was waking my wife up like 10x a night asking really crazy questions like how I put everyone in an infinite time loop, and why they were trying to take away my oxygen (they weren't). So after a couple of days and a rash that is still there a week later, I am pretty sure I'm allergic to it.

They've been giving me an Ambien in the hospital at night and it has been great. Been sleeping 6+ hours a night which is nice.

I'll have to figure out what I'm going to do at home but I think I'll be able to sleep better being in my own bed and not being tied to the dang heart monitor.

Just arrived home!

Doctors were pretty dead set that I was going home today no matter what. Barely even did a walking test at the hospital and they already had all my discharge paperwork complete this morning.

Definitely glad to be home! Feel a lot better than when I left to go back to the hospital. Still haven't walked farther than 5 or 6 steps but I figure I'll try a little later to walk a little more.

Thanks so much to everyone on this thread for the encouragement day to day!

Great news, 32!

Congratulations, and take it slowly. Glad you're home!

I am one month and 2 days out from my release, and I did a 3 mile walk at lunchtime with my wife. My legs were pretty weak by the time we got home, but I was breathing okay. It takes time.

Well 32 that is great news! Home with family is always the best place to be. I know your wife and children are so glad to have you with them! Just remember to listen to those that have walked your walk and take it slowly.

Rex, what a great thing to be up to a 3 mile walk. That is huge!

All of you are inspirations for us out here. What you have been through has put into proper perspective what a blessing good health can be, and how thankful we should be to have it. God bless you all.

Congrats…
Not the exact same scenario but I had a long convalescence at home once and wasn't overly ambulatory (acetabular fracture for the docs here with two plates, a real joy).
If you want to stay sane, set goals for yourself regularly, even if they are small ones (in conjunction with medical advice of course). Those help a lot. Having regular successes and things to work towards does a ton for the psyche.

Hope your recovery continues.

Awesome news 32! Glad you are doing better and are back home with your family. You will get there, keep trying to walk and your lungs will get there.

I've been out of the hospital right about a month now and just took a nice long evening walk. Checked my o2 when I got home and was at 98 and not winded at all. The first couple weeks are frustrating but you will improve and get to where you want to be. Continued prayers for you

Couldn't say it any better myself!

This afternoon has been great. Been able to walk around the house a little bit, and I feel SO much better than last week. So grateful that my doctor listened when I told her I thought something was wrong and moved up my CT scan, as otherwise I would just now have had it today.

You guys all are so inspirational. Will continue praying for everyone as we recover.

Side note, my doctor yesterday showed me my CT scan. That was nuts. My lungs looked like they were just full of dust.

Good morning all. Sorry for no update for a couple of days. Been enjoying time at home with the girls!

Oxygen levels have been doing well. Definitely able to tolerate less oxygen each day. Been on 3L since yesterday which is a good improvement. I still dip into the low 80s when I walk, but I don't feel like I'm gasping for air anymore like I was. Doctors said it would take week or two for the air in my chest cavity to absorb. I can definitely still feel it, but it is going down for sure. Definitely less pressure on my chest.

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement over the last few weeks. September was a heck of a month, and I am glad that it looks like I'm at least seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. It got pretty dark there for a while!

Got to go outside for the first time in about a month today. Went to my daughter's soccer game and was planning on just sitting in the car and watching from the parking lot. Decided when we got there that I was feeling good, so I walked about 100 yards to the field, which felt pretty good! Was out of gas when I got there, but that was about 80 yards farther than I have walked any other time. Pretty exciting.

That's awesome. I can't imagine being at that game while recovering. I kept having to check my oxygen levels at home because I was freaking out. I might have had to turn up my oxygen once or twice!

It was a last minute decision for me. I decided about 5:45 that I was going. My wife couldn't go since she was running fever after her second Moderna shot from yesterday. I wasn't going to miss this game since she couldn't go. I was probably the only person in Kyle with a pulse oximeter. Lol. The stairs up to my seat wore me out though.

Hope you are doing well 32.

Figured I'd post an update even though it isn't too exciting.

Finally got to go see the new floors in our new house. We closed on our house 2 weeks before I was admitted to the hospital. We were planning on moving in after getting floors redone and paint. I hadn't gotten to see either so it was great to get to see it.

I've been sitting with no oxygen for the last few hours and holding 92-94 so definite progress. Just a few days ago I was having to have 4L while resting to hold that.

Still planning to sleep with 3L probably, and all bets are off on my O2 levels once I am up and moving, but I definitely feel like I took a baby step today. I also got to get out and go to a restaurant for the first time in a month so that felt good.

How you guys are all continuing to do well. I was hoping to be off oxygen yesterday (one week out of hospital), but I'm just trying to keep things in perspective. I have been watching a lot of videos that show what COVID does to your body, and they keep showing CTs of people who have died, and mine definitely looked worse than many of them. I know understand why every doctor that looked at it suddenly got pretty wide eyed.

Glad you are doing well and recovering. Don't get discouraged, you are doing great. It is a slow process to heal your lungs. This Friday will be 6 weeks since I've gotten out of the hospital and I feel back to 100%. Still walking and even started to use the elliptical machine again. Continued prayers for your recovery.

Great to read these positive posts, and so thankful that all of you are recovering and resuming your lives. I hear people say all the time there aren't miracles, I would argue that all of you have shown those unbelievers they are mistaken! God bless each of you.
