Continued prayers for you 32 and your wonderful wife and family. Hang in there. I hated the nights too when I was in there. I couldn't get comfortable at all and couldn't sleep. Like geographyag said, try doing some simple arm and leg stretches in bed. I did that after my first few days and that seemed to help me as far as the restlessness goes. Hope you have a great day and continue getting well.

Missed seeing this last night but will lift you and your family in prayer right now asking for strength, healing and rest. I pray you will feel the presence and peace of God as he walks through this with you.

32,

My sister had an episode a few years ago that had her in the hospital for 3 weeks. She ran into the same issues that you did regarding the pain of being prone in certain positions to help her lungs. I remember talking to my brother in law about it. The pain of her chest and hips was unbearable and she wanted to cry, but crying made it worse. I cried for her and my heart hurts for you. I offer up prayers for you, and I remind you that God is good and will take care of you, you just got to get through this.

Thank you all for the kind words through the night and this morning.

I'm up in a chair eating breakfast so that feels pretty good this morning. I can't wait to get up and start walking.

You've got this 32. It may not feel like it at times, but you have shown improvement. When I was in the hospital I did supine exercises, sat at the edge of the bed a lot concentrating on my posture along with my breathing techniques, and even did some seated exercises while at at the edge of the bed. If you need some exercises, I would be glad to email the ones that I give out to my patients all the time. The biggest thing right now is to be active in some way. If you want to walk, ask for help getting to the restroom or just practice getting up from the bed to the chair (only perform if you feel safe enough to do it yourself). That would be a good place to start for function and walking.

In regards to nights, it was tough to sleep most nights to the point that the doctor prescribed Ambien for me (which I never took). The first couple of nights they gave me Benadryl and Tylenol, which didn't help a whole lot. I finally just said to forget it and didn't take anything. I slept better but it was because I started feeling better.

Also, put a pillow between your knees/thighs when you are on your side. Your pelvis/hip are probably pissed off at the alignment of everything. Make sure to alternate sides at least every couple of hours at the most during the day.

Again, keep your head up. You will get there. Continued prayers for you and your family.

Sounds like pain similar to when I was pregnant. I wonder if a full body pregnancy pillow would help?

Praying for you and your family.

Ok prayer time. I just got informed that I've made enough progress to do my walking test to see if I can hold o2 enough to go home with oxygen! My body feels ready but I have not really done any walking so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high.

Sitting in the chair this morning has been such a huge blessing to my mental well being. I'm currently sitting in the chair with 3L low flow oxygen on.

Great news! That walking test is tough but take it slow and push through it. Think about getting back to your family while you are walking. Glad you finally got to sit in the chair, that helped me more than anything. Felt like a normal person again. Prayers that you will pass your walking test and will get to go home to your family!

Praying!

The nurse had to tell me it's a marathon, not a sprint.

I pray you get home soon, 32. That will do you as much good as anything, I'm sure.

Slow and steady. Focus on breathing slow. Don't hold your breath. Look in front of you and not down at your feet. Find something on the wall to focus on to occupy your brain.

Good advice. Focusing on something on the wall will decrease any chance of dizziness.

I passed!!!! Should be headed home in just a few hours once the oxygen situation gets sorted out. That was pretty brutal and took me a few minutes to recover but the nurse said I started at 92 on 4L during my whole walk.

Walking without oxygen was a whole different story and I thought I failed when I did that. Apparently that was just to show me that I still need oxygen.

I'm obviously not completely out of the woods yet but I cannot say thank you enough to all the kind souls on this thread, my family and friends who have prayed nonstop, and all the lurkers as well who have prayed for me this week. Just saying random comments, or stars knowing that people were reading what was going on, was so huge for me mentally. Last Wednesday when I got checked in and talked to the ICU doctor for the first time I honestly thought I was sitting in the room I would be dying in. I remember telling my daughter goodbye that morning and wondering to myself if she would ever see me again. As I left the car I wondered the same with my wife.

I am so glad that I had previously lurked on this thread so I could see what rex and the others had to work through in order to get home for their families. Being an Aggie is a truly amazing thing sometimes.

In the wee hours of the morning several times, I listened to this song. This song has always had a special place in my heart because I can get down on myself and have always had doubts about my relationship with Jesus. Hearing the prayer, the first half is so hopeless, so somber. It is just such an honest cry out to God. The 2nd half is a triumphant response from Jesus saying I have always been there right with you, you just refuse to see it. I share this in case someone else stumbles on this in the future and could use the encouragement to know that Jesus is right with you no matter what. I promised a lot of things to Jesus this week - time for me to start living a life he would be more proud of.

Again, thank you all so much. I am eternally grateful

Congratulations 32. Many prayers have been answered. Work hard at home to get better and please keep us updated. When I first saw my wife when she picked me up is a moment that I can't describe. We have been married for almost 20 years and never have spent more than 2 nights apart. Continued prayers for you for a speedy recovery at home.

Second good news of the day that doesn't hold a candle to 32's news is that I got cleared to return to work on Monday. I can't wait to see my patients again.

Question - for the at home oxygen is it supposed to be running continuous or pulse? The machine they gave me only goes to 3L continuous but I thought they wanted me on 4.

Definitely going to take some time getting used to being back at home but it is great. Going to have to figure out how to sleep.

Jbob04

Mine is continuous and goes up to 5L. Glad you are home, I know you and your family are as well.

ETA: for the first week or so, I slept in the living room in the recliner. I'm back in the bed now but am using a wedge pillow to keep me elevated some.

Mine goes up to 5 continuous, but I kept it on 4. Not using it anymore. I need to take it back so it's available for someone else.

I slept with it for 3 nights.

Curry, I missed this earlier. Glad you are headed back to work next week. It felt good getting back to the office and back in my routine. I've never been so happy to go back to work. Good luck to you on your return.

Thanks Jbob. I am glad to see the summer of 2021 in the rearview mirror. Had a wreck in my company car on Memorial Day after seeing a patient, totaling the car, and had to spend a week at home recovering. Then spent the end of the summer dealing with this Covid crap. Thought I was going to have to bribe my PCP with dinner at The Republic to get cleared to go back to work. Lol.

32: my oxygen concentrator goes to 5L continuous like Jbob and Rex. I am pretty sure we have the same unit. When I got home from the hospital, I still had to quarantine for three days so I had to sleep in the back of the house. I didn't sleep that well, but I didn't care since I was home.

That's understandable Rex. I was nervous about that as well. Luckily, I only have an office manager in the same office building as me and my employees mainly work out in the field. I told her I still have a cough but nothing to worry about. She had Covid last year, so she understood. This week my cough has finally started to improve. I cough some in the mornings but it decreases as the day goes on. Hopefully yours will start to improve as well. My doctor did tell me I will have the cough for most of my recovery. I am tired of it.

Man it is so great to be home. I'm technically Under quarantine a few more days as well but so is my wife. The o2 company had sent me home with a 3L only unit, and my wife is amazing and tracked down the company at 830 this evening and got a new one delivered by 9 that is MUCH more robust.

The unit I came home with was about half charged, and it died about 5 minutes from the house even though it's only a 20 minute drive from the hospital. As you can imagine, a little bit of chaos ensued as I started freaking out a bit, then my wife does. Don't think we've ever entered the neighborhood that quickly before!

Here's to continued healing for all of you that have been my inspiration this week.
