I agree with the idea of extra pillows. That might make a big difference. See if you can do some stretches during the day today - even stretching while laying in bed might help.
Another thing that might help the brain not shutting down is a bit of journaling. I guess you're doing that here to a certain extent, but maybe try logging your private thoughts somewhere just to get them out of your head. Also, make some lists of the things you need/want to do when you get out of the hospital. Make some plans for special things to do with the kids, the wife. She'll deserve a break.
For me, at least, if I can make plans and lists that helps my brain settle. I know this is mostly happening at night, but doing that during the day and stretching before you try to rest at night might help.
