421AM update since I can't sleep sure to a constant battle with the low heat rate alarm... So annoying.

Just got put on the smaller cannula! Dropped me from 25L, 40% to 8L! I also can finally do things like roll over myself without freaking out, and I feel so much better. I know walking is going to be a whole different story as my leg muscles feel like mashed potatoes, but definitely feeling encouraged at this wee hour of the morning.

2nd positive update - just got moved to the IMU. Finally got a new bed. The beds in the ER should be illegal! This is so much more comfortable.

Great updates! I can feel the positivity from your posts. Man you are improving quickly! Great news on your oxygen and that smaller cannula is much more comfortable. Keep getting better and continued prayers from my family to you and yours.

Those ER beds are made for CPR and procedures not comfort!

Well, can't sleep so might as well do a quick update. Been trying to pull blood from my left hand for about an hour this morning. Darn you tough veins!

First off, yesterday was the first day I had any sort of setback so that was a little difficult. Got bumped back up to 10L because I had to take almost 30 minutes to recover getting up to go to the restroom. Talk about a humbling experience. 10L is drying out my nose big-time so I'm trying to figure out how to cope with it. The doctor told me yesterday I'm not close yet (which I know but still hard to hear) so bumping back up will be better in the long run. I know it isn't probably doable but my goal is going home Wednesday or Thursday. Any advice from the pros on the first things that really started to help you gain strength in lungs?

Nights continue to be a struggle. Trying to get to the point where I can roll over without panicking and feeling like I'm dying is goal 1 here. I am a notoriously wiggly sleeper so trying to stay in one position all night is not easy. I also feel asleep way too early last night around 815 because I've just been exhausted. Then the heat rate monitor had issues a few times and I've been woken up several times to test blood sugar even though it's been right around 100 each time.

Finally getting my appetite back some. It also helps that this wing has decent food that I actually get to pick. 30 vanilla pudding, please.

Got a CT scan done yesterday and all clear for clots so that was good.

Hoping today to get in some good work on the lungs with the little smile face guy. That thing is humbling. Made some very slow progress on that yesterday.

Thank you again for all the encouragement. I've started this thread with a lot of people and it truly is amazing seeing the responses back every day. Gives me strength to keep pushing harder.

Was definitely a welcome distraction to have football yesterday and get to watch the ags BTHO NM. Definitely bright a good smile to this 38 year old recruiting junkies face to see Demas get his TD yesterday.

You are telling me! This new bed is so much more comfortable but it is weird getting situated then the bed starts moving air on its own under me to move me around. Freaked me out the first couple of times.

I know the ER beds aren't meant for multiple days but I would not wish that on anyone.

I would say just be patient. I was hospitalized from August 16-September 2. I was told several time I might go home in "a couple of days". It seemed like it was never to happen, and then suddenly I was going home. Just hang in there. Improvement can happen unexpectedly.

You have lots of people praying for you!

The mornings were always the worse part of the day for me, still are. I wake up in a fog that takes up to a couple of hours to clear but getting better. My nights were what you would expect in a hospital. I used the hell out of the spirometer that they gave me to strengthen my lungs. To this day I am still using it once an hour. I laid prone quite a bit during the day also. If I wasn't on my stomach, I rotated side to side. I never was on my back unless the nurse or doc came in.

In regards to a dry nose, I used a saline nasal spray that my wife packed in my bag. It helped a lot.

Continued prayers 32.

Praying for y'all. I grew up with asthma and it occasionally flares back up especially this time of year. Y'all's experience wit Covid scares the living crap out of me.

Keep posting and tell us how y'all are doing. The information of what y'all are going through first hand is invaluable.

Rex said it best, just be patient and improvement happens unexpectedly. The first several days was slow for me with minimal improvement. On my fifth night in the hospital I made drastic improvements and they kept lowering my oxygen down. The nurse was so excited on how much I improved overnight that she called my wife a little after 6am to tell her. My poor wife said she was so scared to answer cause she knew it was the hospital calling. On the 7th night they had me sleeping without oxygen. There were others in the hospital at the same time who drastically improved that way as well. Hang in there and keep fighting. Continued prayers for you and your family.

Thank you everyone for the kind thoughts and continued prayers. Nights are so difficult. Got moved to a new room last night after a pretty long and boring day yesterday where my tv had no volume so I felt like I was losing my mind most of the day.

Hoping to get down to 6L today so maybe I can start moving around a little. Although this morning I'm sitting right at 90% ion 9L so 6 today may be aggressive. My IV went bad yesterday and my hand blew up to the size of a softball so I'm still sitting here this morning watching liquid drain out of it. Gross.

I got to a not great head space yesterday and was very lonely most of the day. Would definitely appreciate prayers that I can stay now positive today. It's hard dealing with even the minor setbacks when you know each one means another night or two here.

Will they let you get out of bed in sit in a chair? I couldn't take laying in that bed all day everyday. After about the 4th day in the hospital, I told the nurse I'm getting out of this bed and sitting in a chair for a bit. I started doing that a couple times a day and for longer periods each day. Getting out of that bed and just sitting in a chair really helped me out mentally.

Continued prayers for you 32. I pray you have a better day. Setbacks are hard, try and stay positive and keep praying.

Praying for you 32! I watched TexAgs radio every morning on weekdays. And a whole lot of Impractical Jokers on the evenings there was no football.

Hang in there. You will get home. I was in for 16 days. I thank God for the wonderful nursing staff at Caprock. They kept me sane.

Haha yeah I've already told my wife that i might not watch impractical jokers ever again. I watched probably 10 episodes yesterday, about half with no sound.

Friends is the other thing I've watched way too much of in here.

They are starting me on a new antibiotic this morning as my o2 was not quite what they wanted to see. Apparently my infection is hanging in there. I know I need to get on my stomach more as I've not done that as much the last couple of days so that's my goal today. Gotta keep positive and do my part unlike yesterday where I got grumpy and took it out on everyone (sorry family and friends for yesterday's attitude). Just gotta figure out how to get to my stomach with this battery pack heart rate thing. It keeps pulling all my chest hair every time I try to turn over

If you're going to be in a hospital for an extended time, I'd recommend a Roku or another streaming device. We had our first kiddo in December and weren't really allowed to leave the room with COVID protocols. Being able to watch our shows on Netflix, etc. was much better than mindlessly flipping channels.

Do you have the single unit heart rate monitor or the one with up to five lead wires and the monitor that hangs around your neck? Sounds like the single unit by your description.

It's a big battery pack with a while bunch of sticky pads that are a little hot and annoying. Got it moved to my back so I'm spending some time on stomach today.

Just got dropped to 7L and they are promising smaller cannula at 5 which would be nice. Been holding steady all day around 95 O2 even doing from 9 to 7

That is why I was asking. I was going to tell you to ask them to put it on your back. Great news on your o2 sat level. Keep fighting.

Hang in there, 32. I have followed this thread closely but haven't posted much. I can safely say that there are more Ags than you know who, like me, are pulling for you and the others as they fight this thing. Be patient - one day at a time - and you'll get there!

This is definitely the hardest time of the day I think for me. I'm starting to wear down but I know I don't want to fall asleep or the nights are just awful.

Got down to 5L but not to the smaller cannula. I'm really hoping to get up and walking tomorrow. I don't know how much longer I can stay just sitting in bed. I was able to sit up in bed with my legs off the side for approximately 5 minute so that helped a little. My wife was also able to bring me a small fan which is nice because I am constantly hot.
