The baseball parent stories definitely have to be filtered. I heard some of their group last year talking about how one of those players I listed above hated Childress. But then they said something about one of our players I knew for a fact wasn't true. Then they said their kid wasn't playing ahead of a .300 hitter on a super regional team because of ignorant bias. And to round things out, a friend told me last not that a group of TCU parents were going on about how much their kid hated playing for Schlossnagle last night.
So in the course of two postseasons, I've heard them talking about why everyone hates Graham, Garrido, Childress, Whitting, and now Schlossnagle. We're running out of coaches in Texas to hate.
I've known a lot of players from most every school in Texas
The general assessment I've gotten from them on Childress seems to be that most think he's kind of a pr ick, but for the most part they respect him quite a bit
The general assessment I've gotten on Schlossnagle is that most think he's a giant tool, but that he's also a very good coach
And this will probably come as no surprise to many, but I've talked to many Texas players spanning the last 12 years or so, and I've never met a single one that had
anything good to say about Augie. I'm not talking about sour grapes over playing time or standard coaching claims like,
"oh he's a bit of a hardass but it's for our own good." Every guy I've talked to thinks he's the biggest POS to ever walk the earth and absolutely despises him. It's mind boggling how he continues to get guys to play for him.
I've also heard pretty similar things about Wayne Graham from his guys
The only coach I've only heard nothing but absolute praise from players (and it's a lot) is...
Mark Johnson. Both Sam and Aggie players love him
