Said this on another thread, but you have to take out payroll taxes, income taxes and agent fees out of that money. And then realize you will be getting paid $1,100/month until you move up to AA ball, if you ever move up. And you get around $2,200 at AA ball and only $3k/mth at AAA ball. The figures above are typical, there are outlers. There is an ongoing lawsuit against minor league owners by the players claiming the players are not even being paid minimum wage. This is how bad the money is.

For 90% of these guys they will bounce around rookie, A and AA ball for the next 3-5 years and then get dumped into the real world with no money and no degree.

I think this board way overplays the likability of Coach Childress. You could take any coach and find a past or present player (or their parent) who doesn't like him. Coaches just don't mesh with every single player and that's not necessarily a knock against the coach, it just happens. Unless it's clearly a widespread and toxic problem, I would take anecdotes about a coach's likability with a grain of salt.

Did I imagine it or did Vinson appear angry again with coach when he was pulled from the Monday game? Surely, he knew that he was not doing the job.

He was furious with the ump, don't think it was directed towards the coaches at all.

The baseball parent stories definitely have to be filtered. I heard some of their group last year talking about how one of those players I listed above hated Childress. But then they said something about one of our players I knew for a fact wasn't true. Then they said their kid wasn't playing ahead of a .300 hitter on a super regional team because of ignorant bias. And to round things out, a friend told me last not that a group of TCU parents were going on about how much their kid hated playing for Schlossnagle last night.

So in the course of two postseasons, I've heard them talking about why everyone hates Graham, Garrido, Childress, Whitting, and now Schlossnagle. We're running out of coaches in Texas to hate.

I'm not sure they realize how tedious its going to be until they try it. Or how unlikely it is for a late draftee to get to the bigs.

Starting to feel pretty good about Stubby staying. Obviously gotta wait it out, but he's got potentially two more years to really increase his draft stock. It'll be interesting to see where guys like Taylor and Vinson get picked.

that's it for day 2. Draft resumes tomorrow with the 11th round

There is plenty of data on the web on the unlikelyness (sp) of getting out of the minors. The monetary compensation is also found easily on the web. And there are books and articles about REALlife in the minors. These players aren't uneducated kids from underprivileged backgrounds making these decisions this summer. Someone is giving them bad advice.

Again I'm not talking about high draft picks or kids who don't have the opportunity to get a degree from a first class university and play on high level college teams. I'm talking about Aggies and others like them. These kids keep signing and the stories keep repeating themselves. And I'm not talking about the Wachas of the world. Those guys are the 10%.

I'm surprised that TAylor or Vinson were not selected today. Lots of guys selected before them and they both are better or more proven than most. I still suspect Stubb to be selected tomorrow and someone will try to entice him out with some left over bonus money.

I'm surprised too that more of the aggie juniors were not drafted today. They all got plenty of exposure from the scouts at the SEC tournament in the 2 games against Vanderbilt and also in the LSU series earlier in the year

I've known a lot of players from most every school in Texas

The general assessment I've gotten from them on Childress seems to be that most think he's kind of a pr ick, but for the most part they respect him quite a bit

The general assessment I've gotten on Schlossnagle is that most think he's a giant tool, but that he's also a very good coach

And this will probably come as no surprise to many, but I've talked to many Texas players spanning the last 12 years or so, and I've never met a single one that had anything good to say about Augie. I'm not talking about sour grapes over playing time or standard coaching claims like, "oh he's a bit of a hardass but it's for our own good." Every guy I've talked to thinks he's the biggest POS to ever walk the earth and absolutely despises him. It's mind boggling how he continues to get guys to play for him.

I've also heard pretty similar things about Wayne Graham from his guys

The only coach I've only heard nothing but absolute praise from players (and it's a lot) is...

Mark Johnson. Both Sam and Aggie players love him

I'm far from a choir boy, but I'm not sure how anybody respects Augie or wants to play for him after watching this. I have no problem with cussing, I cuss everyday. But to watch a 70 year old man lose the ability to control himself over a regular season baseball game is pretty ridiculous.

Imho Paddock should go to A&M where he can get an education and improve his draft status. Lots more upside to this choice and not much risk as the money is low. And this is true for all high school players who have the opportunity to go to a first class university combined with a major college baseball program.

If Blake Allemand can walk on and then become a 4th round pick 4 years later and get a great education then all these kids have the same opportunity. And there is significant difference in money between a 4th rounder and an 8th rounder. The draft is changing and college players are being rewarded more then they were 20 years ago.

So it looks like we're losing only Minter and Long from the current roster. This team next year has a chance to be VERY deep with arms with Kent and Stubbs. Add Larkins (if he can figure it out), Paddack, and/or Kolek, and we're 4 starters deep. Quite the opposite problem that we had this year once the injury bug hit. Hendrix, Simonds, and Vinson will be relegated to bullpen duties, as they should. I really think next year's team will be just as good or better than this year's team.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you mean pitchers, then that might be the case. Surprised Kent didn't get picked yesterday.

I still think if Taylor gets drafted in the first few rounds this morning, that he may bolt.
Mr.Ackar07
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I think Hendrix more than likely will be transition into a starting role. He had a few rough starts, but his long relief efforts at the end translate well into how effective he can be multiple times through the order.
Boxer
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If that's the case, I would like to see him develop a 3rd pitch. Either a change or a splitter. Teams learned to just lay off the curve and go after the fastball. Plus, he struggled for the most part (Cal was the exception) with going through the lineup a 2nd time or 3rd time.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Agree on Hendrix. He needs to develop a better change to go with that disgusting curve of his. Needs to be able to throw the change for a strike and he could be filthy.

Larkins & Martin need to develop some movement on their fastballs. They throw it way too flat.

Simonds does too, to a lesser extent. But he already has some natural move on it. Just needs to hit his spots better. He did a fantastic job of that against Cal & TCU.

Stubblefield obviously just needs strength in the bottom half back. His arm is there and this summer should be great to help build stamina again with the Bombers.

Kent is Kent. Just keep perfecting his location, and he could be an absolute gem next year.

Vinson has to work on pitch location. His off speed stuff is dirty, and he throws plenty hard, but when he does fire that fastball he often times leaves it right over the heart of the plate and belt high.

Ecker needs desperately to work on that curve and be able to throw it with confidence. When he does drop it in there, it's a thing of beauty...but he lost the touch with that during the second half of the season. He needs to develop a slider type to throw with that gas, and then the all important change up.
Boxer

Also, Vinson needs to learn some composure. It was noticeable against Vandy and TCU, especially. If he doesn't get a call, he loses his head and then just floats one over the heart of the plate. He lets too many things into his head.
W
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'll be happy if one of Kent, Vinson, or Stubblefield returns. If 2 of 3 return, the Ags will be preseason top 10.

Any of those 2 + Hendrix + Ecker + Simonds essentially brings back 5 of the top 7 pitchers on the pitching staff (during the postseason)

All 3 of those guys should return imo. As well as Logan Taylor. None of them will be getting enough $ to make it worthwhile to go to the minor leagues this summer. Keep getting your education at a flagship unviersity, playing on the biggest stages in college baseball (SEC), take a shot a baseball glory (winning it all in Omaha) and work hard to improve your draft status and signing contract.

Good for him either way, hope both he and Logan stay.
