Stubby' the wild card. Big lefty with a lot of potential, but he's not Minter where has over powering stuff. He has low mileage on his arm, but also hasn't consistently proven himself against college competition. Plus, he's coming off a knee injury to his driving leg.

They didn't draft Walters with the 90th pick without confidence in the number he would sign for. Nothing sure until signed but those things are usually pretty tight before the pick is taken.

I think Stubb showed what he can do by coming back at the end of the year and pitching some nice innings. Surely his knee injury is considered less a threat to his long term condition than Minter's Tommy John surgery.

With Walters likely gone (and I expect we'll lose Paddack, too, if he goes in the top 10 rounds), I really hope we can hold on to Vinson (along with Stubbs and Kent, of course). I think we have a good chance to hold on to Ivey and Kolek if they fall to the late rounds.

Frankly I don't think big league teams worry about UCLs or ACLs anymore. The recovery rate for both is so high it's a virtual non-issue these days.

Really curious to see where Kyler fits on next year's team. From what I've read he sounds pretty raw but has a ton of upside. I doubt we see that much of him next season but when we do Olsen will be electric.

Just to include it on this thread, Allemand was taken 151st overall by the Brewers

I know we have some more signees. Perhaps, they were spring signees and we usually don't put out a press release on them until after the draft. Names include:

Mitchell Kilkenny - RHP - Houston, TX
Dakota Klein - LHP - Suamico, WI
Hunter Spaeth - RHP - Lubbock, TX

Allemand made a lot of money with his play this year. Good for him. I think he'll do well at 2nd.

At this time too many new players to fit on the roster ...

14 new freshmen (3 drafted so far)
1 transfer (Davis)
1 walkon (?) Walker Pennington
Kyler Murray

minus 6 seniors plus Long and Minter drafted so far.

That's a plus six on a roster that was full or near full.

Will be interesting how they deal with the new NCAA rules that do not allow coaches to dismiss players from the team for lack of production reasons. Also coaches cannot lower the percentage of scholarship money from year to year anymore. New rules should make it tougher for coaches valuing incoming talent.

I wouldn't say safe after the 10th round as some teams will throw out a big bonus saved from slot picks to a special player if available.

after the 10th round, I think how much a player likes or dislikes college factors into his decision just as much as the signing bonus

I agree. Cole Langford didn't sign in the 27th round last year b/c of the signing bonus. Sometimes other factors just come into play.

The most honest assessment I heard about Childress from a player was that he liked Childress depending on whether or not he was playing him at the time.

Pineda had a family to provide for. I remember that one.
dirkjones
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't think Pineda is providing much income from being a late pick and playing in A ball. He may be one though that benefited from a change in environment. I haven't seen many pitchers get in such a funk that they threw as many balls in a row as he did at times.
