thats what I was thinking. unfortunately my meetings with lans last year never panned out, hopefully we can start the push early when nothing else is going on.

don't worry about the yell leaders, just get a bunch of friends together and record it a few times (different speeds and things like that) and then post it on here. If it's good and something really worth doing the yell leaders will jump on board. No reason to have a meeting though if nobody alive has ever heard this thing though.

you're going to need at least 10-15 or more people though to make it sound right.

I'll probably start an event or something like that on facebook and invite all the members of the group. probably do it someplace on campus, preferably inside for reverb and such.

I have to be a voice of dissent on this one. The soldier in me does not think we should use Taps for such a trivial purpose. It is a solemn bugle call, and having had to endure it for 3 buddies killed in Iraq, I'd prefer to not trivialize the song.

The way I understood the OP, Taps will be playing during the yell. Is this correct?

From what I understand, it's just people softly saying Farmer's Fight to the tune of Taps, and no bugle will be involved.

No bugle would be involved in the chant. like the poster above me said, it is the repitition of the words Farmers Fight sung in the tune of taps. voices only.

one, yeah they edit my name. two, the significance of the chant dates back over 100 years to before we had the spirit. Farmers Fight was our school song at that time. The OP has most of the info in it regarding the history of the chant.

oh man - I am joining this conversation so completely late, but this is a beautiful idea - ESPECIALLY because it's resurrecting something we did before anyone doing it was even born. please please please make this happen - anything a rabid aggie basketball fan in houston can do to help?

ok so in the midst of a mid-summer-night's studying for an Anth test I have tm, I have been trying to think of when and where we could get a group of guys together to try this out so we could tape it and then I could subsequently meet with someone on the AD staff to see their thoughts.

I would love to get the yell boyz (they get a "z" in their name), but forget about getting them to do anything during the summer as they are usually swamped.

Two questions, one: does anyone know who I would have to set a meeting up with to be able to show the video to once it is completed? and two: what are ya'lls suggestions on a location/time for us to tape said video?

And in reference to you, Dcs, if you have some leverage with the university, we sure could use it, but if not, we appreciate whatever support you can give us. Truthishly, just spreading the idea by mouth and referring ppl to this specific topic on texags (which subsequently brings more ppl to texags and mentioning the facebook group are our best methods for gaining support till we can actually get it rolling again.

I keep telling you don't worry about the AD or the yell leaders for now. Just get a bunch of friends together and record it. That's all you need to do for now. If you record it, post on here, and it sounds like something people would actually want to do then we'll worry about the rest of it later.

You're going to have to prove that it doesn't sound like crap to get people behind it. It sounds cool in my head, but who knows.

Can anyone think of a location on campus that would have the right sound for this? Like a staircase or something?

sorry bout the rant last night, hopped up on tons of caffine and being wired as hell made me a little ancy plus my apartment got flooded on top of it all.

i was thinking we could do it in rudder, or maybe in the academic building, maybe even in the studio in the academic building.

Give it a shot. We need more "basketball only" stuff for our team and arena. This kind of thing then carries over to road games and tournaments.
I guarantee if it sounds good and takes off opponents will hate it which is just fine by me.

alright so i have about 6 ppl so far that are up for it, i might hold out for more later but as for now a tentative date is july 10th (its a friday, i know asking ppl to come on a friday) early evening (7ish).

I'll update more as it gets closer. I'm hoping to get around 10-15 ppl total though so if that doesn't happen I'll probably push the date back.

Well the meeting didn't exactly pan out as planned...but in light of everything I believe it will be better if we have the meeting closer to when the fall semester starts/maybe a week in, so that we are able to get a good number of people there. The Meeting will take place in the Rudder Exhibit Hall. Date/Times are still being decided but preferably early evening, and suggestions are always welcome. The following are the weeks I believe we could meet (dates are mondays).

Week of:

August 10th (will have to be after Tues, b/c of Summer finals)

August 17th (2w before Fall)
August 24th (1w before Fall)
August 31st (1st day of Fall)

damnit, man you gotta remind people of stuff like this. After all of today's Oyedeji excitment I totally forgot. The exhibit hall people probably won't appreciate a bunch of people in there trying out chants so I'd think about trying it out somewhere different, but we'll get to that at some point.
