I thought Nick was really good. Called it like it was.

Did anybody see Woodland skull his drive today. Feels so good when one of them does something like us!.

In honor of Woodland, I did the same thing off the 1st tee today. And to keep it going, I carded a 6 instead of a 5 out of respect for Jayden Daniels.

So does Feherty land back at CBS or NBC, or does he get smothered with the retirement pillow like Faldo did? "I'm ready. I'm ready." "Go to your happy place." Except instead of Nantz holding the pillow, it's Yasir Al-Rumayyan.

I have trouble seeing Feherty welcomed back with open arms, but not sure the PGA would ban him or anything if a network should hire him.

Feherty won't be announcing or working with any of the TV networks related to golf on the PGA Tour in the future.

Yeah, I tend to think he's probably
done as a broadcaster. That's partly because I don't see an immediate kiss-and-make-up happening for 2027 and he'll turn 70 in 2028. These guys tend to be put out to pasture around his age, even though he certainly brings a different style and energy. I tend to think he fills some of his free time doing other content and gradually heads off into the sunset. But we'll see. He has some depression demons and may be the type that has to stay busy, so maybe that will facilitate a return at some point. But there is so much golf content being created outside of broadcasting, I think he can probably find enough there if he needs to keep working

Am I crazy for thinking Phil will eventually be redeemed and welcomed back? It will take awhile, but if he's not a complete dumbass and shows some repentance, I could see him being welcomed back as an elder statesman in a decade or so.

I love how they act like they accomplished something. It was basically golf's version of Brewster's Millions.

I don't think things will ever reconcile fully between the PGA Tour, PGA of America, etc and Phil. Phil burned alot of bridges over the past years and he is not one to admit his fault either.

I won't say never but I don't think we'll ever see this.

I think if Phil tries to fix this it will be very hard for him

1. He will have to reconcile trying to blow up the PGA tour, even though he knew the Saudis were scary people in his own words. Some players went for the money, but Phil really went after the league and tried to destroy it. He said a lot of things that might be hard to run back.

2. Gambling - many people think this all started because he was gambling again. And when Phil gambles, Phil gambles with high stakes. And seems he often loses. He has some true demons when it comings to the risks he takes and he is going to have to make sure all of that is resolved first.

3. Relationships with tour players - Phil never had actual true friendships on the tour. In the lockerroom, most guys his age could not stand him. The nickname FIGJAM was for a reason and it was not because guys like him. He did try to bond with some of the younger players for awhile but it seems none of that was genuine. The younger players were in awe, because he was their idol growing up, so anything he said they laughed at. But my understanding is that he often wore out his welcome and that many of the younger player's wives did not like him hanging around. It seems like as the younger generation has matured, most of them have become pretty good family guys. Which Phil never really was as hard as he tried to appear that way. He thought he was the cool older brother and thought he could get away with what every he wanted. His act got old and I think a lot of them now realize where the FIGJAM nickname came from.

4. Sexual Misconduct - The stories about him at the old Thunderbird events in Arizona with the girls that attended. Stories that he supposedly tried to claim was okay because he was in an open relationship. Which I don't believe was the case, just his way of excusing himself. Pat Perez wife and the nude selfies he sent her at a golf event while Pat was in the restroom. Getting kicked out of two different clubs for alleged sexual assaults (and then disappearing from view instead of addressing or denying).

I think if he tries to come back, he is going to have to weather a slew of reporters and stories about his conduct and need to explain some things. He is no longer going to get the JFK treatment and have his misconduct swept under the rug.

I think Phil is done. The fact he's exposed as a fake is his biggest problem. Hard to overcome that because any attempt at contrition is naturally going to be met with a "yeah, right, sure you are"

It's an interesting combination of someone like Bryson that thinks they really did something special and a guy like Cam Smith that took a fat check then said screw it and let their game go to ****

Phil was always a partial fake at minimum, it was shocking to me that people couldn't see it. His reckless "I'm doing what I want how I want, even if it means self destruction"side was everywhere to anyone paying attention, on the course and off. It just got worse with time, which often happens to people who face no consequences. And in his case, he even got reward3d with crazy big bags of Saudi money, who wouldn't think they were bullet proof?

It's not too different from Tiger from an overall ego standpoint. The main difference is Phil decides to twist knives and agitate people connected to the game. Tiger just ruins everyone personally around him in his private life and continues to put citizens in danger.

So without the golf entangled web he will be much more easily welcomed back.

Tiger is no saint for sure . Adulterer, self destructive apparently, pill issue possibly, would cut your throat out to win.
But once the sexual harassment allegations came against Phil, that made him toxic. That (and far worse) may be overlooked in football, but not golf. There really isn't a world where it's in the PGA's interest to partner with him now, especially if they have (apparently) won the LIV war. Letting him twist in the wind as the ring leader would actually show their power and dissuade the next group of mutineers.
To your point though, times do change, who knows what attitudes will be in a decade.

Not to defend a pill popping adulterer that needs to never drive himself again but tiger is nothing like Phil. Phil has no conscience, tiger has at least attempted to do good for the communities, he has always protected the tour and has made attempts to further the game with programs and tournaments.

Tiger is no angel or saint but not even comparable to Phil in my opinion. I will never trust Phil to do business with him.

I think Tiger was raised in a weird situation and a lot of circumstances led to the issues he has. I think it's a struggle for him to be normal because he was raised not to be, and now he has a ****load of physical pain to deal with as well. Now I am not one to forgive someone's behavior because of what happened when you were a kid. Don't be a dick, period. But while his personal life failings are many, when it comes to the game, I sense he's done his best to do right by it and his fellow players. Phil just seems like a duplicitous, silver-spoon *****

No excuse for him getting behind the wheel but i view people with chronic debilitating pain getting hooked on pain pills differently from people who just like to do blow off strippers' asses.

not wanting to derail, but it's apparent Tiger and Phil have way more in common than either would probably like to admit.

Everyone is going to have a childhood. If you don't get to have one as a kid then you have one as an adult.

For most people in this situation it often shows up as generally immature and often crappy behavior. Throw in being extremely rich and famous plus having your role model be a philandering dirtball of a husband and I don't have a lot of trouble understanding how Tiger made such a big mess.

All of this might explain some things but it's not an excuse. Everybody has plenty of reasons to be an a-hole but it's your job to figure out how to be decent anyway.

I post this knowing that it won't be agreed with but here goes...

I think LIV did accomplish something. It did exactly what the PGA tour needed, provided competition. It forced the PGA tour to rethink how it does things and I think the PGA tour is better for it. Did LIV actually provide a product that was enjoyable to the masses? No. But they had infinite capital that the PGA tour could not outlast without some change.

Example: The updated Tour Championship/Playoff model looks to be a major upgrade.

Additionally, love him or hate him, Bryson at least took the money and still worked his ass off to compete at the highest level. Bryson, Rahm, Hatton and a few others fall into that category. The aforementioned Cameron Smith is a different story. He, Dustin Johnson, and many others just took the bag and went through the motions. Disappointing but such is life. I assure you, if someone offered me a quarter billion dollars to show up and fake playing competitive golf, it would be hard to deny.

I think these are two different things. LIVs goal was never to just strengthen the PGA Tour. That's all that ended up happening along with lighting $4-$5 billion on fire. They accomplished nothing for what they set out to do.

Separately, did they strengthen the tour in the process? Yes.

The pga tour was stagnant and was resisting discussions to change. That opened the door for liv who took players who were not happy with the tour as well as guys nearing the end. That kinda forced the pga to make changes. Liv was fun for awhile in the first two years because they were going up against smaller pga tournaments so it was watchable vs smaller pga events with fewer stars. But two years ago, liv decided to go up against heavyweights such as phoenix and the players. Then throw in tournaments halfway across the world with tee times in the middle of the night, and there was no path to success. Liv in Australia was great except the time difference. But it was dying when the Saudis pulled out.

The PGAT has changed to get the elite players more money, but again, whether this ends up an overall better product is far from determined. My fear as a fan is that we could be looking at a lot more weekends of completely spare fields. Even the spare weekends now still have some interesting names. That seems to be about to change
JCA1

The pgatour wasn't so much stagnant but a member organization who's ordinary joes called most of the shots because that's who had the votes. LIV did upset this by giving the stars a credible threat to leave if the joes didn't start catering to them. So now the ordinary joes will be primarily competing on a challenger tour that will be somewhat of a glorified Korn ferry event. Time will tell If the 15 or so events the top dogs play in is worth that trade off.

In other golf news: Matt Gogel, a member of the PGA Tour Champions circuit, has been suspended six months by the PGA Tour for betting on Tour events.

The bets violated the Tour's "Integrity Program," and Gogel's suspension started Sunday. A statement from Gogel, which was provided by the PGA Tour on Wednesday, said that he wagered on events in which he did not play, and that the bets came in 2024 and '25.

"In 2024 and 2025, I unknowingly violated the PGA Tour policy by placing small, recreational wagers on golf," Gogel's statement said. "I want to be clear that these wagers were not placed on regular PGA Tour events, PGA Tour Champions events or any tournament in which I participated.

"I would never knowingly violate the integrity of the game of golf. I made an honest mistake and I look forward to playing in 2027 on the PGA Tour Champions."

If Rahm is smart, his team will use this as an opportunity. Open up negotiations with both LIV and the tour and take the position with the tour that he has millions of reasons to pursue what he is owed by LIV but is willing to make a clean break from LIV now and accept pennies on the dollar if the tour will consider the money he is willing to leave on the table to come back to the tour as part of his penalty.
