And now we've reached the "players only meeting" stage.

LIV may have gotten a sucker to put in $250 mil. I don't see it personally; but it is not my money. From a serious player perspective there are no advancement pathways from LIV and really no commercial interest in the US. Wonder how the players who are still owed a ton of money from the "old" LIV are going to react. This looks like a senior / those who DGAF anymore tour to me.

What LIV Golf actually looks like in 2027 is still unclear. Reports state the new model for LIV that O'Neil had been shopping for investors would see a series of around 10 events, half which would be held internationally and focus on team competition. The others would be scheduled prior to major championships, most based in the U.S. The purses are also likely to be reduced potentially below $15 million.

NLU suggested something similar. Doubtful any legit players will stay, as the outsized paydays was their only real draw. But it could carry on as a "sunset" tour predominantly for the Euro guys who still want to play a little golf but not grind. Basically, a de facto champions tour for the DP world tour.

I bet Bryson talked Trump into investing in this thing. If they do 10 events as planned, he could have every event at one of his courses.

The Saudis put in billions of dollars into LIV and couldn't sustain any kind of success with LIV.

What the hell is $250MM gonna do? The investors must have been given really favorable terms to be able to claw back all that money if LIV end up failing.

This would be very on brand for LIV to spill the beans on something that wasn't actually a thing yet.

LIV golf is a fraud led by guys like Phil, Norman and current CEO O'Neill.

Still reading the tea leaves some since LIV is being coy but it sounds like they don't have an investor so much as a lender willing to loan them $250 mill. But the loan is contingent on LIV retaining most of its top talent. So LIV is trying to entice Bryson and Rahm to stay with equity so the loan can go through. But those numbers still don't work in any meaningful sense. Sounds like LIV's suits want to cash checks for another year until that 250 runs out, which probably means the lights are turned off.

Surely Rahm can't be stupid enough to fall for this twice?

maybe LIV should just go all in on the team
thing. At least it would be different and mildly interesting if structured properly

I think the team thing ended up being the least interesting and most mocked aspect of this thing

Golf really doesn't lend itself to teams unless you go all in with formats like alternate shot, etc. that truly makes it a team event. But even doing that, teams really only matter when you have a reason to root for one over another (college, city, country, etc.).

Completely made up teams with no ties to anything are hard to get behind. Maybe if they redid the teams by country, but then you'd only have a handful of teams that would be competitive.

They've discovered what's already been proven in just about every other sport. The public has an appetite for 1 top level sports league in any given sport but not really anything else.

I think there were a couple of possibilities for how they might've made teams a little interesting.

If they would've done it by city and/or home course and really gotten the guys super committed to community involvement it might've had a chance. Like if you had a team that played out of Memorial Park. Obviously this isn't going to be their actual home course, but you could get them to play there a few times a year in conjunction with fan/community engagement events, support Houston charities and the HLSR, stuff like that.

Still would've been a long shot, but the idea that you could create arbitrary teams with no ties to anything and manufacture fans was never going to work.

The team concept in golf is hard to do and resonate with the fans. Golf leagues can't follow the format of the top professional sports leagues like NFL, Premier League, MLB, NHL, etc globally. Maybe in the USA region only, one can do something similar like the TGL where they try to identity some certain regions with various golf players with name recognition and that might work with fan attention and TV ratings.

I think people mistake interest in the Ryder Cup as proof team golf can work. The Ryder Cup is the golf Olympics more than the actual Olympics. And like virtually every Olympic sport, that interest doesn't extend any further. It's like arguing a women's team gymnastics league would work just because people get behind the US olympic team every 4 years.

Watching LIV right now, the background music is distracting. Gallery is puny.

Only a couple names on the leaderboard are recognizable, they should just eat the sunk cost and fold

I watched for a bit yesterday.
After one of Westwoods wedge shots, there was 30 seconds of dead air. Then, one of the golfers was figuring out how to hit his shot out of the woods, and there was more dead air. Terrible broadcast.

This scramble style is also annoying, it speeds things up but that is the only positive, and the team aspect will only matter to people gambling

LIV does have some marketable and notable names. But as each month goes by, those names get further and further removed. I hope at some point, soon, all can come back together to create a stronger PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

I enjoyed it while it lasted. It's a lame duck and needs to end at this point. I liked the presentation but the major turnoff for me was the time difference with the events halfway around the world. Tough to watch at 2 or 3 in the morning. But I do wish the Olympics would adopt the team format and have the first 3 rounds count for country scores and then have the final day for individual medals.

What were they waiting so long for? Were they trying to secure funding for it until a drop dead date? Everyone has known about that.

So sad to see storied rivalries like the Aces vs Crushers not sort it out on the field…

Side note, the team golf thing just never seemed like a great idea but the fact that they apparently let an eight year old pick all the names didn't improve their chances.

They're holding on until reality takes it from their cold dead hands.

Bryson is still musing about playing on both the PGA and LIV tours. That boy ain't right.

Bryson's head is surely in the clouds today. Lakers announced sale for $12.5B which would surely correlate to Crushers value appreciation. Think he and Lahiri are talking through their equity options? (insert moon emoji)

I don't understand what LIV 2.0 is supposed to be. Without the money, what do they offer? At best, they're looking at purses that are 1/4 the old purses. That's less than a DP world tour purse and considerably less than a PGA TOUR purse. Add in no path for advancement to any other tour or the majors, I don't know why they think anyone would sign up for this.

I assume some are still holding out for signing bonuses i.e Rahm

Equity in LIV 2.0 or magic beans?

I think the magic beans will have better long term value.

Rumors he's owed 150 mill and the supposed investors are rumored to be ponying up 250 mill. I think any owed signing bonus is a lost cause unless the PIF decides to pay them (or at least some %) to avoid litigation.

I just can't see any rational investor throwing money at this. Everyone knows it's doomed.
