For the Young Exec category 34 & under: Initiation - $500, Dues with full carts is $240/month
Young Executive 35-44: Initiation - $500, dues with full carts $275
Full Membership: Initiation $500, Dues with full cats is $479

I posted on other boards as well, and pretty much got the same responses as here. Tricked out layout you need to play before committing. That alone is enough to deter me from there. The Walden reciprocal would be fun though.

I'm playing at Riverbend later this week. I've been looking for a good place to play as I'm tired on Greatwood. I live in Sugar Land now in my parents former house and am semi retired at 57. One my softball player's dad is a member at Sweetwater and he's looking to go somewhere else.

I dont care for all of the tennis and pool ( swim at Lifetime), so I'm looking for something reasonable, but will pay more if worth it.

What kind of condition is Greatwood in? I played numerous times the previous couple years and enjoyed it but last year it seems like they let it go. The greens were basically a sand trap or fully covered in fungus, made it unplayable.

I would like to go back if its in good condition, its my confidence boosting course.

You might want to take a look at Westwood.

Pecan grove plantation is another option I would check out.

I just got back from Greatwood. Fairways are in good shape, but greens have been sanded in last week. They did play pretty smooth and moderate speed so I was fine with that. The bunkers are dirt except on 14.... I was pretty erratic... 47-42 with 4 birdies lol

For $34, it was a good deal.

WOW......That's steep. I'm in Bulverde and a member at River Crossing Golf Club. Always in fantastic shape, greens are usually perfect, great views - hill country golf, and one of the best practice areas in San Antonio, great restaurant and bar, top of the line pro-shop, and one of the top teaching pros in the area. All for the amazing price of $365 per month and a $110 trail fee.....nothing down when I joined, but it's around $2,500 now. After seeing this and reminding me of the costs and the choices over there, I don't miss Houston one bit.

any recent updates on the Sweetwater vs Riverbend vs Sugar Creek options? Seems like the primarily golf only clubs are doing better...what about Shadowhawk/Blackhawk?

starting to look around the Sugar Land area

I don't think you are seeing a covid impact clubs yet. It's one thing people can still do..:

When I inquired it seemed like a bit expensive considering it didn't include cart fees or range balls

OKG - I'm a member at Riverbend
I'm a social member at Sweetwater and have played both Blackhawk and Sugar Creek tons (I grew up in Sugar Land)
My order is:
Riverbend
Sugar Creek
Blackhawk
Sweetwater

But you really need to explain what your looking for in a club. All are very different

Shadow hawk is different
It's definitely more expensive - close to if not right at 100k
It's definitely the best

yea, if anything, id have expected golf and tennis to be utilized more, but would think the gyms, other sports, pools, social activities and restaurants would have seen a decline

Thanks KH, I guess im just looking for access to better golf with less crowds and well maintained courses...also to get the kids started in lessons. they're 7, 6, and 3.

right now, i just bounce between all the local public courses during the week. Greatwood, Riverpoint, quail valley cinco ranch, and sienna are the most frequented.

I grew up in Sugar Creek, and parents were members at sweetwater, but i didnt play golf much growing up, so my experience was limited.

Shadowhawk and Blackhawk are on the same property, just different clubs and courses, is that right?

Each club handles Covid issues differently

At RBCC the men's locker room is still off limits. They set up a bar outside - but there is less hanging out pre and post round.

I've been at other clubs where it seems Covid hasn't effected attitudes at all.

Our gym and tennis seems back to normal.

I've been thinking about getting a membership somewhere, but there's just no way I can play more than 4 times a week at most, so hard to justify the cost at most places. I live in Cypress.

I can join Longwood Loyalty Platinum for $39.95 / month. Discounted green fees, unlimited range, couple free drinks every round, discounted merch, access to club tournaments. Would also come with similar access to Cypress Lakes I believe.

Similarly, I'm also considering Sterling/Houston National. It would be $100 / month, unlimited range, social member perks, cost to play Sterling (max twice a month) would be $45 except before 1:00 on weekends, and Houston National would be $20 except before 1:00 on weekends. If I hit the range 4-5 times a month (which I can do mornings before work or evenings after work), playing 4 rounds at Houston National would be cheaper than 4 public rounds. Playing 2 Sterling and 2 Houston National would be slightly more, but there's no way to play Sterling public so worth it.

Anyone belong to any similar programs? I'm interested in Hearthstone, but I just don't think there would be a single month I could justify the cost, unless they have a fitness center.

Bread 08, we are breaking ground on a new house across 281 from River Crossing. I plan on joining sometime next year. Last time I was there (about a month ago) I saw lots of Aggies. Looking forward to getting out there.

I just moved and joined up with the player development membership at Sterling/Houston National. Haven't really taken full advantage yet due to the heat and having a young one at home but once the weather cools I will be hitting the range more often. Courses aren't the greatest but the facilities are decent and can't beat the proximity for 36 holes. And Since its only $100/month, I can stomach playing other public courses around Houston with my friends.

These are my exact thoughts.. and pretty much same situation. I have a 6 month old at home, so just now starting to get confident spending some time on the course again. If I pull the trigger, we might have to play a round sometime.

By the way, Sterling is waiving member initiation fees right now if anyone is interested in full membership.

Just FYI and this is 2nd hand knowledge so take it for what it's worth

I have a buddy who's dad was a member at Sterling/Houston National and he tells me stories of 5+ hour rounds there on the member course.

This was maybe a couple years ago so maybe it's gotten better but he's told me stories of them walking off mid round because the pace was too excruciating.

Like I said not sure how accurate that is today but something you may look into before pulling the trigger.

I have a comp round to try it out. Appreciate the heads up.
