Friend is a member and get to play with him. They're specifically a golf club, not a country club. Supposedly even removed family amenities at one point to add more golf practice facilities. Last time I played I hit a bad drive way right on one on Jackrabbit. Marshall followed us a while to make sure all my shots weren't like that. Member guests can't suck either.

They used to have a pool, but got rid of that a couple years ago. Clubhouse was really dated last time I was in there

The talk of sponsors made me laugh thinking about one sponsorship story I heard.

Lakeside used to allow a letter of recommendation in lieu of a member sponsor.

Mark O'Meara applied to join Lakeside 15ish years ago. They made no exception for Mark… sponsor or letter.

Mark said, OK… so he had Arnold Palmer write him a letter vouching for him and asked if that would suffice. Lakeside said, "that works."

I think O'Meara ended up spending most of his time at Bluejack, but it was still a pretty good story.

I agree. I thought it was fantastic.

Gus & Memorial are both solid public options, but at the expense of being very difficult to get on and more often than not a 5 hour round. Between the better environment, better course & amenities, and ability to take my kids out to the course on the weekends I regret nothing about joining a club. If you're always looking at cost-per-round, a club will never make sense.

Course is a fun test. Primarily a golf club. We have tennis courts and workout facility and pool. Also redoing the club house right now. Should reopen for dinner in a few weeks. One of the best men's locker rooms in the city.

I am going to take a tour of RBCC on Friday. The membership brochure says that new membership requires sponsorship. I know that sometimes CCs say that but don't really enforce it. Is RBCC going to require at least one legit sponsor?

How hard is it to get tee times in the fall and spring? I ask because I was a member of SWCC several years ago and it was frustrating trying to get a "good" tee time because they were always taken....even with 2 18s.

I think you might be confusing their style of design for outdated. They aren't going for modern, but it's in extremely good shape (like all their facilities). The jacket requirement for the dining room is a bit much.

I joke that Champions is the exact elitist golf club Caddy Shack was making fun of. And I don't mean that as negative.

No you don't need a sponsor. They will hook you up with a member to play a round. If I was in town would gladly do it.

What times and days do you typically want to play? Weekdays are very easy. Saturday morning can get booked up but you can always get a tee time every day.

Thanks for the reply. Until I retire in a couple years, I would likely be playing on weekends and twilight during the week.

My son works in the bag room/cart barn, and he told me last night that members can book tee times with no penalty for cancelling. So this weekend, there were a couple members with 2 or 3 tee times one morning and they only used one a piece....leaving 3 unused times someone else could have used. Do you hear this happening often?

You can play twilight any day with no issue. Saturday morning can get busy but as a member you can book a week in advance. There are some older members for which the pros book their tee times each week and a few "games" that have tee times pre booked each week. If they don't have enough people show up I guess they could end up not using the tee times each week. So you can show up and basically go off any day. I think it's never been an issue so they haven't had to charge anyone yet. But as the membership roll increases they will need to monitor that if it becomes and issue- plus unused tee times honestly result in the club not maximizing revenue (speaking as an equity member)

I've never had an issue playing a day I want - as long as I'm proactive to book a week in advance if it's a priority time / weekend morning.
