Net free is just one way to protect capital. If you have gains and think they are done (especially on options) then exit the trade a winner and move it to another area that you think has a better chance of succeeding
I go net free on small caps because of the high boom bust (CHEK, ONTX, ZOM, etc.)...with the big runners I let the technicals tell me when to exit and if it keeps going, so be it I was successful and move on to other trades
