Nice! I'm considering making a move in the next year and it would be nice to work for a company with a pension. My FIL retired with a pension from John Deere and it seems like a super sweet deal from the little I've gathered.

Shell changed theirs from an 80 point system to some calculated method that isn't as nice...but still is a great perk overall and you can choose lump sum or monthly payments.

Just landed in Denver and my flight didn't have WiFi working. Just starting to read up on GE. I've got a guy who is an engineer who is angry, and another guy who is a VP who is saying, what did people expect? I tend to agree with the latter. Who does pensions these days besides the government? And what does that tell us?
Most oil companies (the larger ones) still do pension. Phillips 66, Chevron, Shell, and Exxon do off the top of my head.

My insider info is that it will sit somewhere in the never ending Darvis box between 40-80 for the forseeable future...but it is a nice stock to get options on each year with the high dividend

any of you with Fidelity thinking of switching? I would think Fido would follow suit with free trades as well, or at least sweeten the deal, but nothing yet.

I had moved my brokerage over to fidelity over a year back and got 500 free trades out of which I have about 100 left. If they haven't already cut commissions down to zero, by the time I run out of those, I'll switch to Schwab or TDA.

On a side note, anyone have any feedback on the JPM YouInvest platform?

Those that know me know that I spend a lot of time on forum 16 but I try not to bring politics to this thread because money isn't red or blue, it's green for everyone. I'll be creating a thread on this article on forum 16 but I wanted to share it with everyone on here first. It's a good read.

I've never been in the market during a dem in power. Is growth just harder to come by? Feels like every pick this year is a winner.

Quite frankly it reads like there are conservatives trying to keep blame off of them if (when) the market contracts in the next year.

The inverted yield curve and flat market is showing the cracks in the economic expansion. I think whoever wins will be fighting off a recession rather than implementing a policy of any type.

There was a good debate about Warren's wealth tax just now on CNBC. It shows the stark contrast between academia vs business world ways of thinking with regard to taxation. I hope they upload it in a tweetable form and I will share it with the board.

My daughter has a small account with Fidelity. If they don't follow suit I'll move it to TDA with my trading account. Think or Swim is a decent platform.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I'm probably gonna wait a bit longer to see what Fidelity does before I go through the trouble of making a switch, but I'm loving these brokerage wars.

Likelihood of the Chinese bailing early on the trade talks is pretty high. FWIW I bought puts on BABA. Small bet but we'll see how it goes.
