Just look at last year and the response to when Josh faltered. He cannot exceed expectations of his contract. He will either meet or fall short.W said:
not sure where the Hader contract fits in this mentality however
it was top-of-the-market but at least only 5 years
Brown just signed with Boras this offseason. He won't be cheap.tjack16 said:
I think one of the priorities either this off-season or next off-season should be locking up young stars in Diaz and Brown to extensions while they are still cheaper
Good point. Hader was overpaid the minute he signed.W said:

It does feel like we overpaid for Hader but he was also a lot better then Pressly last year.
The back end of our bullpen would be yet another position of need if we didn't have him.
It hurts because what the Astros paid for him could go to multiple other guys or to AB this year. You can find back end of the bullpen easier than you can find an all-star 3B like AB. You can find back of the bullpen cheaper while you fill multiple positions of need.tjack16 said:Silent For Too Long said:

I think it was definitely an overpay but as long as he is really good for us over the next four years it won't really hurt as much. I'd rather overpay somebody that still produces at a good level than have him go to a competitor (I think Texas was on the list of suitors for him)

I hate to be the dumb guy in the room more often than necessary, but why are we all so anti-framber? I know he's a FA after '25, but wouldn't it make more sense to see if we're a good team this year, and if not trade him at the deadline where someone is guaranteed to significantly overpay for a top flight starter?

Kyle Tucker was getting ready to be a groomsman at Myles Straw's wedding when the trade went down. That ties in with @Britt_Ghiroli's story today about how all MLB weddings have to fit in a tight window.https://t.co/qszPhJrGDB

While the New York Yankees are at a stalemate with the Chicago Cubs for OF/1B Cody Bellinger, they have turned their attention to the first-base market.

They are engaged in talks with 4 free-agent first basemen: Pete Alonso, Christian Walker, Carlos Santana and Paul Goldschmidt.

Make me think that we have the best offer and Boras is working the phones trying to find a better deal.Ag_07 said:
I'm a little surprised Alex hasn't signed anywhere. I thought for sure he'd be signed by now.
Either that or it makes me think no one is willing to go $200M as he wants. I think there could be some slightly better offers, but I do believe no one is at $200M.chjoak said:Make me think that we have the best offer and Boras is working the phones trying to find a better deal.Ag_07 said:

I have to wonder if the situation with his elbow at the end of last season has some clubs spooked about offering him a long term deal for full value.Mathguy64 said:Ag_07 said:

His self worth judgement (and that of Boras) and the people who offer baseball contracts don't agree with each other. He wouldn't be the first Boras client to be in that position.

Unless he thinks he could get more in two years that would not be that wise. If the Astros upped their offer just take it for the 6 and be done.tjack16 said:Mathguy64 said:Ag_07 said:

Maybe he will pull a Snell and end up having to take a 1-2 year deal

Would not be wise but I remember Snell and Montgomery kind of played themselves of the deals they wanted by waiting too long and thinking they deserved more. Both were Boras guys
I don't think it would be a good deal for Bregs either. The offers are in, they are not changing by 20-30 million at this point. He did not get the money or years that he was looking for.Mathguy64 said:tjack16 said:n_touch said:Unless he thinks he could get more in two years that would not be that wise. It worked for Snell. It was a complete disaster for Monty.
News: MLB just released a study on pitching injuries. The conclusions are no surprise: Chasing velocity and "stuff" at all levels of baseball are impacting arms in a negative way. More specifics in here, including when they're seeing the most injuries: https://t.co/hPE7hsVtj1

Or maybe teams are worried about his medical like they were with Correa. Alex often looks like a very old man for being 30.chjoak said:Make me think that we have the best offer and Boras is working the phones trying to find a better deal.Ag_07 said:
