Our playoff rotation if I'm the manager

1. JV
2. Framber
3. Javier
4. Pray that we are up 3-0
5. JV
6. Framber

Javier in a tandem with one of Urkeeding/Brown/Pornstache. Frankly I would just as soon see an opener of Neris or Montero for an inning and then Javier for 5 and then the tandem.

4. Urquidy/France in that order...I like France relieving Jose than the other way around.

Everyone should be a potential tandem. We don't have have anyone we can just hand the ball to and let them go 6. We need a plan to get 27 outs each game and mix and match whatever match ups we deem favorable. If that means Brown pitching middle relief or France being an opener then so be it. I wish we would have experimented a little more in the regular season.

hopefully the 'stros won't need JV to pitch the season finale at Arizona

otherwise he will miss the wildcard series

Would really like a Yankees win and an Angels win today. And an Astros win.

I think they've cared all season. But you could also argue there has been a lack of focus and urgency.

Like Framber, Pressly and Hunter Brown letting the little mistakes pile on this year when they didn't do that last year. Or the amount of unearned runs given up by this team to me points to lack of focus at times.

That's why last night was so refreshing. They made the defensive plays that helped them win it all last year. Like that double play against Julio would have been a run last week by them not getting the throw to first in time.

I assumed the connection was obvious, but I guess not. Thanks for connecting the dots.

I looked at playoff rotations last night. I think Verlander is scheduled to pitch the last game of the season as it stands right now. If the Astros turn it around and make it in, it would be nice to do so before the last game so the team can push him back (presumably to G1 in Minnesota). If he does pitch in Arizona, that would set him up for G1 in the ALDS... with all the presumptive "ifs" assumed.

I'm really glad that the Astros are getting the last spot into the playoffs to minimize the games played at home. Absolutely baffling.
Try and make something idiot proof, and all they do is make a better idiot.

I'm actually glad that we'll be playing AZ when they have something to play for. We seem to rise to the level of our opponent and play like ass against teams that have nothing to play for.

Very small sample size but Yainer has the highest average against both Kirby, who lives in the zone with his fastball and has dominated the Stros, and Miller.

His bat needs to be in the lineup tonight at C and tomorrow at DH.

So many possibilities but I think winning 2 our of 3 is an absolute must this series. If the Astros lose the next two they would need to probably sweep Arizona and hope Texas sweeps Seattle again. (Or takes 3 of 4)

Yep. Have to win probably 4 of our next 5 to feel really safe. Wouldn't put it past the rangers to lay an absolute egg in Seattle this weekend

Stats are just fan stuff. Dusty has a feeling Maldy is due for a breakout.

He broke out with a 2 for 3 last night. He's hitting .193 on the season so he's more likely to approach 0 for next 10 than to break out again. Let Yanier play tonight.

Kirby has a 3.58 season ERA...so he's had some bad outings...

but not against the Astros

What?? Maldy has obviously turned a corner. An .857 ops over his last 30. This is who he is now as an mlb player.

Somehow, against all odds, Maldy has an .816 OPS vs LHP this year. It defies logic but he's been pretty good against lefties. As a .600 OPS guy, that means he's down the very low .500s vs RHP though.

Oh, and Yanier's SLG is within spitting distance of Maldy's OPS.

I think he only pitches v AZ if something to play for on Saturday or Sunday.

Theoretically if he pitched on Saturday he would be available on Wednesday on 4 days rest for game 2 of a WC series or Thursday for a game 3 on full rest

Obviously the sooner the Astros can lock down a playoff spot if they are going to the better.

Worst case would be having to use the top end of your rotation through the last regular season game then turnaround and start a WC series on next Tuesday.

Best case is clinch on Friday and then JV/Javier/Framber would have at least a full week rest before a playoff start.

Here is a hypothetical for y'all.

Last day of the season. We're a game back from the Rangers.

Do you start JV? We win, we might win the division. We lose, JV is out of the WC.

Probably the best home game I ever attended was 2021 Game 2 against the Braves. It was picturesque that night. And *we actually won!

They won the open roof playoff game last year as well.

This idea that the roof closed gives the Astros an advantage is a myth IMO
