When you're really bad for a long time, you start to over value the farm system. Basically, because the product on the field sucks so much, you get more interested in the farm system and hope for the future. After winning a couple of years, you realize the farm system has its place, but that place is to feed your major league team. That can be done by calling guys up, but it can also be done by trading for established talent.

Or to put another way, we've traded a lot of guys over the past 5 years. I don't miss any of them.

What are you going to say if we win another title or two between now and then? "Yeah, they just completed arguably the best 10 year span in the divisional era of baseball...but man, they suck now!"

I'm almost 50 years old...we didn't even make the World Series for the first time until I was 31. I didn't think we'd ever win one much less two. If we end up winning a 3rd or a 4th in a 10 year stretch, that would be so awesome, it's borderline absurd.

Losers always whine about their farm system, while winners go home and f' Kate Upton.

As it was explained to me today, for luxury tax purposes, any money the Mets send the Astros to pay down Verlander contract is treated identically to having that money on their payroll. So if they’re sending $54M to HOU as reported, those are taxable payroll dollars for the Mets.
